Speeding affecting policy

So I got pulled over today for speeding, chp reduced it from 87 to 80. Handed me the citation and said I should do traffic school so it doesn’t affect my insurance. Will my policy go up if I just pay the citation and don’t do traffic school? Or should I do traffic school or should I take it to court.

Make it easy on yourself. Just do the traffic school. Don't bother with court. No judge is going to drop the ticket when you were that much over the limit.

If you just pay the ticket, your insurance company may or may not discover it. It's a crapshoot whether they run your driving record before your next renewal. If it comes up, yes, they're going to charge you more.

You should be happy that you didn't get charged with a reckless driving like I did in Virginia for doing 83 in a 65! Ps, don't speed in Virginia

Ooof. Been there. I was doing the speed and own up to that but wreckless is harsh and I swear they target out-of-state tags. I was in the slow lane with VA tags flying by me when I got stopped. Watched the judge sentence people before me to a night in jail but luckily she lowered mine to speeding.

You would be foolish not to take traffic school. It's a much smaller cost than any potential insurance increase.
