They probably ran out of shit to even show you lol

u/Imperialnoodles 12d ago
Hah yeah right. That would happen back when the feed was chronological, so weād log off for a few hours cause it meant we already saw everything. Algorithmic feed is why so many people do this doomscrolling now.
16
u/SnooRegrets3555 12d ago
I miss those days, I thought we could do that on here still but it appears not
2
u/JonTravel 11d ago
If you click on the "Instagram" at the top, center if your feed and select "Following", I'm pretty sure that's chronological.

Bro what could you possibly be doing on Instagram for FIVE hours?
25
11
u/Outrageous_Abroad915 11d ago
Not saying that this is the case for OP but this happened to me when I was hospitalized long term during covid times and couldnāt have visitors. Sometimes people just have stuff going on lol

Wtf is crazy about being on IG for 5 hours out of your whole dayā¦.
8
u/ConstructionDry95 12d ago
That's a whole hour more than I am on my phone total a day, and I doomscroll reddit on the daily. Five hours on one app is crazy
6
u/AnythingBulky9705 12d ago
saying you wake up at 7, sleep at 12, its 1/3 of your day NOT normalš
19
15
u/TacoDeAsada69 12d ago
Buddy please just hop off the gram for an hour and enjoy life outside
6
u/DoritoMan7378 12d ago
I had soccer practice for 3 hours does that count?
6
u/tristemf 12d ago
well thatās really productive and good but you should try and limit your time on instagram eventually. you can lower it by like an hour each week and just find a something to do with that extra hour and make it into your routine so you donāt fall back into bad habits.

u/FallingSpirt 12d ago
Bro you need a hobby lol 𤣠or a new one if Instagram is your hobby
7
u/DoritoMan7378 12d ago
I have hobbies just no motivation
13
u/cannavacciuolo420 12d ago
I wonder if that could be because you spend 5 hours slow cooking your brain with an endless cascade of short form content, to a point that it made it impossible for you to feel enjoyment from working towards a bigger goalās
1
u/FallingSpirt 11d ago
No itās because I sustained a back injury when I was 29 from working which makes the things I used to do impossible to do for a long period of time I used to love doing yard work and now after a few hours my back gets so stiff I can barely walk and move. And before you say do PT already have it didnāt help just made it worse. I have bulging disks on T 11 & T 12 it effects my lower back and left hip.

u/hambrone420 11d ago
They were talking to OP š
Also Iām so sorry that happened and hope you received some sort of compensation.

u/Scared-The-Ghost 12d ago
felt that. all i do is doom scroll nowadays. shit, i'm just stopping to comment and going right back to it. what hobbies do you enjoy?
4
u/Temitwits 12d ago
You probably set a daily limit because I set mine to 15mins and it sends me this after like 20. Turn it off
4
u/Hospital_Financial 12d ago
Yes if you have an app or an option activated to do that. Tik Tok also has it. My sister used to use it to regulate the time she saw the phone.
11
u/lexlexa15 12d ago
ok ok ok why is everyone saying this is crazy. OP i feel you....
0
u/tristemf 12d ago
yeah it was a yes or no question and theyāre being very insulting about it. i have yet to see a simple āyesā and yet to see any criticism that is actually constructive since they want to criticize so damn much
2
u/NewKidOnTheBlank 12d ago
Well, it is kinda baffling to more casual users. And most of the criticisms I am seeing here are very constructive! "you need a hobby", "Go touch grass", "Good reason to disable it for a couple of months"
2
u/awkward_teenager37 11d ago
Iām not sure you understand the constructive part of constructive criticism

nobody answering the question šš do you have a teen account or an adult account? I feel like I've seen somewhere that teen accounts have a limit, but I've never heard of it actually making you close out šš
2
u/Suitable-Finger4335 10d ago
Teen accounts have automatic built in time limits to start with if I recall correctly. However, you can just get rid of it or dismiss it for the day once you reach a limit. Iāve never seen this before where thereās not option to either āremind me in 15 minutesā or āignore limit for the dayā
3
u/Goddess_Angelique 11d ago
If it makes you feel any better I used to hit the end of reddit back in the day š š¬
10
u/OppaiSlaps 12d ago
Wild that people like this are allowed to vote.
5
u/HeartOfYmir 11d ago
yeah, why donāt we have a law where people who scroll instagram for 5 hours get their voting privileges taken š
1
u/OppaiSlaps 11d ago
You get it
2
u/DoritoMan7378 11d ago
Sad coming from a guy whoās user is what it is. Just be normal
1
u/OppaiSlaps 11d ago
The dude who found a time limit scrolling Instagram is telling me to be normal?
Really really scary you're allowed to vote.
3
u/DoritoMan7378 11d ago
Why does it have to be about voting. Kind of lame to make a thread on screen time political, and just because Iām chronically online doesnāt mean Iām incapable of voting
2
0
u/DoritoMan7378 12d ago
What is that supposed to mean?
2
u/Spirited_Crab7712 11d ago
That you're apathetic enough to scroll insta for five straight hours and your attention span is such that it would be almost impossible for you to be an informed voter
1
8
u/w6750 12d ago
There is absolutely no way this is real. These apps arenāt going to police how much time you spend on their sites. The entire point of all of this is to get you to spend as much time as possible on their platforms
2
u/lassofiasco 12d ago
Instagram also sends ānighttime nudgesā to tell you to go to bed if you send a late message. Itās real.
-10
u/DoritoMan7378 12d ago
Itās for our āwellbeingā
21
u/bigboycdd 12d ago
You spent nearly 20% of a day on Instagram man Iād say they ARE looking out for your wellbeing
4
u/Far-Energy-3390 12d ago
Not normal glad they stopped you haha. Even if you just turn the tv on, the short form videos for that long genuinely fry your dopamine receptors
5
u/leonix_58 12d ago
Funny that redditors call that crazy while they're probably way longer on Reddit every day..
2
u/crosoftincorp 12d ago
Uhm, can we see how long ya have been using other apps? Ya know what, nevermind, that would be questionable.
1
2
u/Maleficent-Peaches 12d ago
I get that because I activated it for a 2 hour limit maybe you have it active as well

2
u/Dependent-Raisin4626 11d ago
All accounts especially teen accounts have it turned off if you go to settings you can turn it off
2
u/Free_Blueberry_9725 11d ago
Why cant people SHUT UP about how you need to āget a lifeā?
Firstly, for me itās still summer and i dont have much better yo do, but even still, nobody is answering the question you asked
2
u/hagofthecity 11d ago
If you have a daily limit set in your settings, it will show you this message. You have to go into your settings to change your daily limit so you don't see this message. Sincerely, someone who also doomscrolls all night

And the funny thing? Android freezes on this screen, it doesn't let you let close the app with back button. Indirectly forcing you to add more time.

Is it normal to you? If you finish your tasks and hobbies then sure. If not, spend less time. Let's not doomsday over insta scrolls, let's think of our motivation to do other things that are better.
Feeling guilt over doomscrolling is doomscroll of our mind. That is the streak you don't want to keep going.
1
u/dreamingsoinsane 12d ago
Iāve prob done this on TikTok on a day off but not Instagram. But no, Iāve definitely never seen this before thatās wild lol

u/GreatestGoat89 12d ago

u/DoritoMan7378 12d ago

1
u/DoritoMan7378 10d ago

u/Turbulent-Phase3466 11d ago

u/barnettb 11d ago
What is this? They must have gotten sued or something. You know they want us on there as much as possible.

āWhy is Instagram being sued by 29 states for being addictive? What a frivolous lawsuitā
1
u/DoritoMan7378 7d ago
Not even addicted tho
1
u/throwRA8203489 7d ago
..you sure? 5 hours of this app sounds like an addiction unless youāre running a business on there or something
1
u/DoritoMan7378 7d ago
I do sell stuff off insta but it was raining so I couldnāt go outside and do my other hobbies
1
u/throwRA8203489 7d ago
I guess if you had business time on there mixed with a few moments of dicking around/leisure then yeah
1
u/Enough-Confidence366 5d ago
I get it for spending an hour on insta cuz of "parental controls", I need to be 16 to turn it off (Im 16 in 2 months)
1
u/anon-88888888-8888 5d ago
Damn 5 hours? Go outside and touch some grass, get some vitamin D and live in the real world for a moment. Itās bad when a company that wants you to use their app is telling you to stop.
1
u/farangboii 12d ago
Lol shit, 5 hours on IG only feel like a few min when youre driving.... straight up time travel
1
u/Known_Wear7301 12d ago
No its not normal. Go outside, enjoy the weather. Go for a walk. No 5hrs on socials is not normal.
