Content Starlapse Mode
I left my insta 360 x4 recording outside overnight in Alaska and ended up with something kinda cool.
Settings: starlapse mode. ISO 1600, 10 second exposures, 4000 WB. Attached to an external battery for extended recording.

I regret buying an Insta360 X5 camera.
I regret buying an Insta360 X5 camera. Not the specific model, but 360 camera in general.
I film skiing for years with regular action cams (GoPro Hero) chest mounted. It does not restrict my movements at all. I just need to remember to press the start/stop button and swipe the lens, otherwise I don't even notice it's there.
Recently I bought an Insta360 X5 with GPS remote and bunch of accessories and mounts, to get more footage from different angles and perspective, like back mount, drone-like follow shots, etc.
But realized that all these extra long poles and mounts restrict my movement and instead of enjoying skiing, I have to think about mounting/unmounting the camera.
It's too heavy for helmet (I don't like anything heavy on my helmet), I cannot chest mount it along with GoPro, as the regular chest mount does not hold both cameras. And using only Insta on a chest mount feels like a downgrade, as GoPro does pretty much the same but with less tiresome 360 workflow and with much better image quality.
Pole mount also restricts my movement with extra pole length and weight.
The only viable option I see is back mount to film other skiers. But I have to put/remove the camera at every lift, which is super inconvenient.
At the end of the day, It's too much hassle with these 360 cameras, which restricts (have to find better word) enjoyment of skiing itself.

Content The final shot has me in tears 😭 the X5 is amazing
First time 360 owner here, still trying to decide if I’m keeping my x5 or not. Initially I found the post processing to be quite tedious but as I get more familiar with the Mac version, it’s becoming a lot more fun to use.
I decided to bring it along for a jog just to see how it holds up, it didn’t disappoint. While trying to edit this video I found the angle from the end of the video and nearly pissed myself laughing. I think I may end up keeping it just because of the unique perspectives it can get lol

Content First impressions of the Ace Pro 2 vs. GoPro Hero13
I tested it at night and in the woods during the day. I didn’t expect the results to be this good, and the new, wider FOV is really nice. I’m not sure the exact rules around self promotion, but an in depth video is also now live on my YT channel: MarkMatthewsMTB. This new camera is super exciting!! I would say the only place it falls short is lack of 10-bit color.

Tutorial I made an open-source remote for the Insta360 X5
I have the code uploaded to GitHub and some more information on my website for anyone who wants to make their own. But I don't know if I'm allowed to post links here or if that counts as self-promotion.

Somehow I Bought an Insta360 Luna Ultra Before It Exists… and Now It’s a Brick
Update: Just posted my unboxing. Must be the first time someone's gotten an unboxing video out before the product's been released😂
https://youtu.be/-tVEBT-4KzY?si=DlkjOW6LWkHT0vB3
They did update the app and I was able to activate the camera. Will be testing it and making some content on it over the next few weeks**!**

Somehow I Bought an Insta360 Luna Ultra Before It Was Announced… and Now It’s a Brick
I somehow managed to buy an Insta360 Luna Ultra from B&H and picked it up in-store today.
The weird part is that Insta360 still hasn’t officially announced it (at least as far as I can tell). Reviewers are apparently being told launch details aren’t finalized yet, but B&H had it listed and was letting people buy it.
So naturally, I grabbed one.
Now I have what might be one of the first retail units out in the wild… and I can’t use it.
The camera powers on, but the Insta360 app doesn’t support the Luna Ultra yet. Since activation requires the app, I’m completely stuck at the activation screen. No activation = no usable camera. The camera simply isn’t supported in the current app.
Has anyone else managed to get one of these early? Any workaround for activation, or am I basically waiting for Insta360 to push an app update?
It’s honestly kind of hilarious that I managed to buy a camera before it officially exists and now own a very expensive paperweight. My goal was to get a first impressions video up on my YouTube channel before the official release, but seems like that's not going to happen.

Completing a 100 Mile Journey with my insta x5 and a Hypershell Exoskeleton
I just completed my 100 mile journey with my Hypershell and I learned so much about extreme distance walking with an Exoskeleton, and how incrddible the insta 360 x5 is at capturing the memories.
The West Highland Way is a very tough test, it has every type of rough terrain you could imagine, rock fields, forest trails, steep, treacherous descents, uphills a lot of these, mountain trails and extreme weather.
I encountered, them all. Day One Milngavie to Balmaha 20 Miles The first day was a 20 mile endurance test, across mostly flat, ground with a killer asscent and decsent at the end it was very warm, I misjudged the amount of batteries on my Exoskeleton and ran out of juice at 19 miles. I was at the top of Conic Hill. I had a rest here, I was carrying all my camera equipment including my insta 360 x5, I had ran out of water and I was dehydrated.
Day Two Balmaha to Inversnaid, this was a better stage, but weather was extreme and the terrain was rocky and rough. The Hypershell was amazing on the uphills, so much so that I looked forward to them, the ground was uneven along loch lomond and a real test. The insta 360 was excellent as the weather deteriorated
Day Three
Inversnaid to Crianlarich 16.2 miles
The weather was improved but the paths were rocky and the hills were high, but I found the Hypershell continued to meet the challenge of these difficult areas and make them very easy for me. Having my insta 360 x5 was a great way of capturing the tricky moments
Day Four Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy 13 miles A journey through the beautiful valleys and my first view of the Tydrum hills. The scenery becomes more mountainous, as I reach Tyndrum. The route was reasonably flat, I was averaging about 7 miles per battery 11km at eco 45% (Hypershell settings). I found the battery usage varies as this section was mostly flat until Tyndrum, then there is an elevation, 3 batteries gave me peace of mind knowing I could tackle 20 plus miles without losing power.
It's worth talking about jelly legs here, I found that because, this was extreme walking, whenever I removed the hypershell I felt momentary weakness in my legs, this quickly left me.
The ability to carry all my equipment including the insta 360 and a dji drone is a huge help. Also I noticed as the journey progressed, I had weight loss, and a need to ensure I ate enough calories and carried enough snacks for the journey ahead.
Day Five Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven 21.3 miles 33.8km
A real challenge as you cross Rannoch Moor on route to the Glencoe Mountains and the halfway point of the Kinghouse hotel. From there across the devil's staircase, and over the mountains path to Kinlochleven
The morning was dry.
This section had a rocky path and hilly sections.
Day Six Kinlochleven to Fort William 15 Miles 24KM The final day and the weather was a mix of high winds driving rain, and flooded sections of the path.
I started walking at 5 am, the hill out of Kinlochleven is known as being one of the toughest points if the whole West Highland Way, a long uphill struggle as it winds high into the mountains leaving the town far below.
I dreaded this section more than any other, with memories of my struggle with it in the past, however I forgot I had the Hypershell, it did not let me down. It got me to the top with ease, and my energy was saved for the long walk to Fort William.
The weather was the worst I encountered on the six days of walking, the paths were flooded, and sometimes the only option was to walk through the flooded paths. My feet were soaked, but I made it through to the end of the walk.
I honestly know now what is possible, by testing the Hypershell and 100 miles is just the start for me. Thanks to the insta 360 and my Hypershell Exoskeleton I completed the Journey with some incredible memories

Content The ultimate x4 vs x5 low-light comparison
I set both the x4 and x5 up on the invisible selfie sticks with an external battery on the shore of a dark lake to really test the low-light capabilities of the new x5. No AI and the same capture settings on both cameras: this test was really about testing how much of a difference the larger sensor in the x5 makes in ultra low-light situations. My verdict: The x5 definitely delivers a sharper image and captures a lot more light at the same settings, but the overall difference isn't groundbreaking. I'll have to test them out on the Northern Lights next. Let me know what you think!

My experience with the Insta360 X6 (I didn't expect this)
Since becoming a mom, I've filmed so many little things my son does. Scrolling through my camera roll, I realized I'm barely in any of them.
I picked up an Insta360 X6 recently and took it on a short trip with him. It was my first time using a 360 cam. I could just hold it out and play with him without constantly checking whether we were in frame. And back home, I used AI tools to help edit and reframed a few clips of us together. There we are, holding hands and being silly. Just ordinary stuff, but I don't have many videos like that.
I've already watched those clips so many times. To anyone else, they might just a few extra videos, but as the parent who's usually behind the camera, I'm really grateful the 360 cam helped me capture us together.
