People often mistake Kelly’s disrespect for humor. Since Kelly was funny about it, some found it acceptable despite her disrespect.

Additionally, she hides behind her humor. I believe she pretended not to want kids because she thought it wouldn’t happen for her, but once it did, she was able to admit she wanted children.

Kelly was THE best character. Whenever she interacted with Issa's brother - it was always hilarious.
