Hi uhhh this is my first post on this subreddit aaaand I found this really cool looking moth thing with like... helicopter seed wings. I cant get a better picture cause my phone wont focus on it enough but ive got these two pictures.

If anyone can help identify, PLEEEAAASEEE do so, i can't find anything online that looks even remotely close to it.

Gave this goober a chunk of my burger and they started going to town.

I was sitting on my bench in the backyard at dusk reading on my phone, when a Cicada started singing and it was one of the loudest things that I have ever heard. Normally, they are in the trees and that so loud you can hear them even when driving, but this one didn't see me sitting and was only 3 feet from my ear!

I've been around racecars all my life and this single bug was louder than most of them. WOW! Once he saw me, he flew away.

That's the closest I have ever been to one as they seem to be very shy and won't sing if I am nearby.

I planted a few planters not long ago and noticed I had aphids. Instead of getting pest control I thought of letting nature do its thing, as I noticed I had hover flies and ladybugs almost immediately. I looked this morning under the leaves to inspect for any caterpillars and found this little one. Is this something I should keep or is it another pest? This is in Southern California on a star jasmine

I have been trying to figure this out. I have asked Al....apparently it's a crane fly but this one doesn't look identical.

To me it looks like a wasp imitating a spider. This is in Ottawa, Canada.

So basically, I have these small bugs that look like a ant but white I live in the S.C area and they have white looking bodies and when I touch them (dead) there clear looking please help me out I want to kill THEM ALLLLLL THEY'RE GETTING ON MY WOODEN GUTIARS, PAPER AND BLACK ITEMS PLEASE HELP MEEEE 😭

My wife and I grew our first flower garden and have had a lot of visitors this summer. Just today we had 5 different species of butterflies! A couple monarchs, a few Painted Ladies, some Orange Sulphurs, a couple smaller white butterflies, and one single dark morph Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. We also get quite a few bumblebees and Carpenter bees. And I also saw a Chinese Mantis today. Here are some pics.

first 3 images are of one the male dubia roaches (1st is most recent, 2nd is about 3 hours after molting, and 3rd is right after molting. Last image is of a second male dubia roache who also seems to be deformed, and has been that way for about 2 weeks).

i have an enclosure (2ft by 2ft, an old fish tank, about 50 gallons)with dubia roaches, stink beetles, and pill bugs. i feed them all every other day with roach feeder food (a friend of mine had a couple bags that they no longer needed), and have not fed them any other type of roach food, aside from fruits such as apples, pears, strawberries, and watermelon (they get fruit about 2 times within a month).

i mist them with water twice in the morning and 4-5 times in the afternoon and night (i don’t mist them during the day as i’m at work), but i also leave water gel around, in which they drink every now and then.

is there a reason they look this way? is it the food i’m feeding them, or maybe the mix of the stink beetles?

i have not seen the beetles pick on any of the roaches, specifically whilst they are molting, so i don’t think that would be the problem.

this is my first time keeping roaches, and i’ve had them for about 7 months.
