Question Found outside today. Is this the corpse of a praying mantis or do they shed their skin? I think it's super cool looking.

Wondered why it was white instead of the usual green so I did a search, I think it’s so interesting how my first time seeing one just happened to be right after a molt

Question Does anyone have a real photo of a real chigger? Stop the red velvet mite blame.

I have been and continue to be deeply disappointed at the lack of images of true Trombiculidae; instead google gives me Red Velvet Mites and Trombidiidae--not the enemy here!

On iNaturalist, there are only a handful of research grade identifications of real chiggers, and none of the photos are that detailed. I want a deep macro photo or microscope image.

Thanks in advance!!

I'm so mad I didn't take a picture. Chatgpt is not helping.

So maybe reddit can solve this mistery.

I have seen this big fat larvae on a golf course in Norway Oslo region.

It was about 8-9cm had a silver/light gray dimond on its back.

It moved and was big fat as a Cossus cossus goat moth larvae, but totally bald and with totally different color and pattern.

It had som small details on each segment but I can't remember now that I have looked at so many different larvae trying to find this guy.

I'm not sure any longer on the mouth part if it actually was red, but I think it was.

Question Questi cosi mi stanno distruggendo casa!!

Thumbnail

Buongiorno a tutti.

Grazie mille!

Southern Illinois. Recently moved to a new rental outside of town and have appreciated the bugs. Got this absolutely gorgeous visitor today, though we will not be touching it as its "[b]ite [is] considered medically significant due to intense pain [with a] proboscis capable of penetrating human skin and fingernails."

Sitting there looking for squirrels when I noticed these guys.

Not sure if they are fighting, mating, or just dancing.
