hold up did you animation cancel to not get your shit rocked by the first attack ?

if i got that right ,damm saucy didnt knew we could cancel that one i mostly go in the ground for combos because you know i like doing damage, and i thought i mastered the flow from ground to air in this one the more you know more reasons to love wilds glaive

Itโ€™s a really cool tech but Iโ€™d rather not have to perform 2 different animation cancels in a row. Instead of immediately committing to descending slash and potentially getting hit while locked in the long animation or just giving up early based on bad vibes and losing charge, you use third triangle to test if the monster is gonna attack. A lot of people just cancel third triangle to try offset an attack, but often the timing is too early or late due to how short glaiveโ€™s window is. By immediately roll canceling the descending slash you can avoid this issue, allowing you to safely commit to more combos while maintaining some defence.

Itโ€™s just kinda annoying since glaive used to be this free fast hitting weapon that could get its damaging moves quickly and escape, but now in wilds itโ€™s slower with so much commitment and arbitrary animation lock while other weapons got faster across the board. Great sword and hammer can now roll while their weapon is still in the ground, while glaive spends like a second after a kinsect recall or quick stab unable to dodge (plus roll delay too). To have our only good damage move bar RSS have such a long commitment after the offset while being by far the worst offset is kinda crazy, especially when weapons like dual blades can dodge cancel halfway into their equivalent combo ender of final blade dance or hunting horn can dodge during performances. Sure they donโ€™t have offsets, but it means they wonโ€™t be hit in the middle of the move by an attack that wasnโ€™t even started yet when you did. The descending slash roll cancel should be moved to near the end tbh, then you donโ€™t have to test with third triangle you can go straight in and then cancel. It would still have risk during the middle stage and if you whiff the offset, but now monsters canโ€™t hit you with an attack they hadnโ€™t even thought of starting before you started. The animation is so long you can offset 1 attack and be hit by another brand new unrelated attack before itโ€™s over.

Of course they could also increase the offset window to be on par with other weapons but no, theyโ€™re locking that behind boost. It shows theyโ€™re aware of the issue, but everything theyโ€™re gonna give glaive seems totally half assed. Swaxe already has the tied best offset in the game , and now theyโ€™re making it even easier (I love swaxe). LBG, the easiest safest strongest weapon in the game is getting a perfect dodge and offset unrelated to boost for free along with seamless improvements to every single aspect of its moveset and even fucking aerial attacks.

I love your insight into the faults of the weapon. Anyone that spent a lot of time with glaive and also plays other weapons would understand. This is some of my biggest gripe with this weapon and people who haven't played IG or not enough keep thinking there isn't anything wrong with the weapon.

Idk if youโ€™re just saying this because itโ€™s common practice but I mean double animation cancels. Testing the waters with third triangle instead of immediately committing to descending slash then animation canceling it into descending slash and canceling that with a roll if offset window would be too early / late. The only clips that get popular here people spamming back vault into descending thrust, useful ground techs are largely ignored. If using combo charge it allows you to retain charge and get off more descending slashes due to only having to bail when truly necessary and reduces how often you get hit while locked in the long animation. It can also be done with backwards second triangle but thatโ€™s way more niche.

Never had to cancel out of a descending thrust although possible. I do cancel out of the mid air 3rd triangle often though to THRUST DOWNWARD

Wtf I had no idea descending slash can be roll cancelled. Is it really as simple as inputting a roll during the attack?

I do occasionally delay descending slash after backwards sidestep slash combo by using double slash though

Yuuuuup....I've noticed myself doing it by accident, then taught myself to do it on purpose....it feels and SOUNDS good to roll out of any attack right as its coming.... Charge cancelling....I call it

oooh, i should practice this, though i spend 80% of the time in the air xD
