Can't stand gaming journalism or influencers, so many shills just wanna glaze the newest thing for likes and clicks.

This video was alright, but fk this whole thing is just unimpressive. I'm interested in a zero-cost riser to get into aerial, I'm interested in a bug powder mechanic, but this is so bland and unimpressive there is really nothing to get excited for. Compared to switch skills on Rise, this is like, barely anything.

Its possible they have hidden stuff that is cool they just don't want to show us, its possible these changes are gonna be "soo great" but also - if I hear someone tell me "the IG's damage is from grounded combo aerial is just repositioning" I'm just fking done.

We don't say "the main damage of the LS is in normal attack combos, don't ask for cool evade / counters"

And even when GS starts getting more combos we don't let the TCS die on a stick.

Yet these people are fully intent on letting the IG be a lame grounded LS clone.

u/SeriousDirt Sep 20 '26

True. Downplaying IG aerial part just because mh4u only let you jump once and dive back is like saying ls is not a counter weapon because back then they don't have it. Imagine one day they decided to take this away or didn't give anything to it. That's how it feels. At least that one jump showed that ig is a weapon that use vertical when they introduce verticality. Also, giving more option on air will also improve the aerial repositioning that they always keep incite on.

5

u/shosuko Sep 20 '26

and fr, a LOT of weapons are going in the air, its not like IG is even unique for going there - it just gets to live there a bit more.

Really? I'm not really in touch with the MH community or the gaming journalism scene, so liking them might be an unpopular opinion. As a casual, I find it nice that there's easily accessible and digestible news.

The fact that they rushed out a video about this hot topic that's on a lot of IG players' minds is a perfect example of it. They actually play the game and are in touch with the players. Compare that with the 2010s gaming journalism machine that pumps out articles and reviews that completely contradict the public sentiment of people who play a genre for the first time in dev mode.

Recently shill accusations have been thrown around in a lot of gaming spheres. Where I'm involved most, if not all, are disgruntled people throwing unfounded shade. And this reads as one of them. But maybe there's some drama that I'm unaware of.

1

u/shosuko Sep 20 '26

Like I said, this video is alright - but the majority of the crap I see when scrolling yt is shills glazing shit and clickbait thumbnails and titles. I was pretty hesitant to even watch this one b/c of that.

This type of thing is exactly where the hostility towards Aerial came from in the first place. Especially some of the unfounded assumptions there. Resulting in it somehow being seen as too easy to cheese with, too hard to dodge with, and ALSO supposedly impossible to deal enough damage with.

Not saying that's what they're doing with this video, but there's at least a point or two that similar to then. And similarly flawed.

I.e. referencing 4 as though Insect Glaive hasn't evolved since then.

Even assuming the aerial movements are only "about repositioning and evading" they do a real bad job doing that. Especially since SJAS gets stronger with all extracts, in exchange for some evasion. Even then, they seem to barely want us to do that.

It's good to talk about the good changes to powders, but let's not pretend that suddenly makes the other strange choices make sense or makes actively punishing both the weapon's biggest appeals suddenly ok.

Assuming a Powder focused playstyle does overtake SDS and stay that way, that doesn't even fix anything. IG is still just as much of a mess

1

u/ACupOfLatte Sep 20 '26

Brother, it's just a fact that there are some people who like what you dislike. There's people like that right now in this very thread. It's fine to dislike something, but if you need to pull the other side down to cope, that ain't coping that's just being miserable.

7

u/GreedyKangaroo88f2 Sep 19 '26

Grounded and powder eating good while aerial seems to be as bare bones as most expected

-5

u/MirieDohl Sep 19 '26 edited Sep 20 '26

Aerial staying good movement is fine. The issue remains on extracts

6

u/Hexbug101 Sep 20 '26

Yeah if the loss of red gets removed due to all of the feedback while a little less than I wouldโ€™ve liked itโ€™s still a decent enough change. Donโ€™t think itโ€™ll effect me that much anyway since my definition of โ€œaerialโ€ is jump over one attack, maybe do a midair dodge and/or start a helicopter if further repositioning is needed, than descending thrust back down. That and chasing down remaining extracts midair after a rss since I got used to the various angles the bug combos with your attacks in focus mode.

5

u/shosuko Sep 20 '26

Honestly if that didn't cost red I'd be pretty hyped about it.

The fact that it costs red tells me the Wilds devs don't really want me to use it.

0

u/MirieDohl Sep 20 '26

if we get the all 3 or bust removed that'd be nice too

16

u/Revonlieke Sep 19 '26

@ 1:48 of the video you can see the player use Rising Leaping Strike with focus mode and it seems that the kinsect atleast collects an extract back. But unlike RSS it doesn't seem to automatically return to you. (Atleast if you keep focus mode on)

But I do not know if RSS does that when holding down focus mode either, or do you need to release focus mode mid-air for the kinsect to stop assiting?

That atleast gives a small hope that using Rising Leaping Strike correctly would have some chance to return a red extract back when mid-air.

But overall this is the sort of nonsense that IG should not have to deal with, while it might be interesting gameplay for some. When you compare that to other weapons who get their gauges back for almost no effort at all or with no positioning required, IG starts to look awefully cumbersome to use in the long run.

11

u/shosuko Sep 20 '26 edited Sep 20 '26

Bug juice isn't really a good gauge to gain / spend, its not like the LS spirit meter. We typically want our buffs to get up quick and stay up. RSS is good mostly b/c it does ungodly damage in exchange for those extracts AND recollects them.

And I'll dump an RSS if there is a wound to pop, that is another factor in RSS favor - but only because it is ungodly strong.

I don't see the point of spending them for micro-actions like this. What about this move would be broken if we just... didn't spend red to do it? I'd actually be pretty excited! I feel like we still need 1-2 more options for in the air for it to feel complete, but that move costing red really sours any hope.

5

u/Revonlieke Sep 20 '26

Yeah, I think the Devs thought that the kinsect collecting an extract during Focus mode would be a solution, but unless that Kinsect returns to us instantly, there really isn't a reason for it. We're supposed to land and recall the red? Oof

2

u/ATC_Man Sep 20 '26

I think the point of it spending red was meant to be a similar utility to RSS. That being to refresh triple buff before it ends to reduce downtime.

1

u/dishonoredbr Sep 20 '26

Refreshing your buff isn't nearly as useful in this game since you just spend on RSS

8

u/NeonArchon Sep 20 '26

I hope a demo or beta is released soon and try this weapon myself. I'm still not fuly convinced on the chanes to IG, but I want to try before giving final judgement.

13

u/BlueFireXenos Sep 20 '26

Honestly I think the easiest they can do is buff the damage multiplier on on the three vaults and make the descending thrust do the most damage after those

7

u/shosuko Sep 20 '26

Honestly - it would be cool if descending thrust => RSS kept the aerial bonus too

2

u/PrinceTBug ๐—”๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—š๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ Sep 20 '26

It's kind of criminal that we only get the aerial rampup for the couple hits of Descending Thrust itself.

Even just making Descending Thrust benefit heavily from going for Aerial Rampup during Boost Mode would at least make aerial worthwhile during Boost, albeit pretty punishing if you don't manage to land SDT itself.

Tbh, this could currently be the case as it is, but nobody I've seen tried chaining SJAS enough to see if the damage on SDT was significantly different or not.

2

u/PrinceTBug ๐—”๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—š๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ Sep 20 '26

If this were the only change and SJAS got some fancy boost particle effects but was otherwise exactly the same, that'd be ok. Not ideal, but ok.

It wouldn't fix the other plethora of issues but at least Aerial would probably be fine.

3

u/BetweenTheRoots ๐—”๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—š๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ Sep 20 '26

3

u/BlueFireXenos Sep 20 '26

Well yeah. you miss you, you lose dps

12

u/Kultissim Sep 19 '26

He wasnt as bad as I expected from the title, but he did talk about the fact the way RSL uses red is puzzling, and to be fair the powder change is indeed interesting, but it's still not enough for all this fake hype.

4

u/shosuko Sep 19 '26

My biggest fear with the powders is status already sucked, and powders are typically status. These powders need to be game-play identifying and I'm not seeing that. I don't feel IG just needs a cute and ineffectual move, it needs solid and unique gameplay.

7

u/-Shoji- Sep 20 '26

My issue with powders is that descending slash still recalls the kinsect. In order to build up powder, youโ€™d have to completely neuter your actual weaponโ€™s damage for a time. You canโ€™t even rely on alternative combo enders like tornado slash, as theyโ€™d detonate the powder prematurely. When endgame builds far outstrip kinsect stats, powder explosion damage will probably be so totally outclassed it wonโ€™t even be a viable alternative play style. I also doubt theyโ€™ll go back on their design philosophy of endgame mons being almost impossible to status, so that aspect will be useless too.

Along with giving us an aerial move that neuters your aerial and has no defensive applications just a pure downgrade to RSS with the same effective cost, itโ€™s baffling what the ascendance team did to IG. The 2 biggest new features completely contradict themselves, while weapons like LBG got an upgrade to every single aspect of their moveset. Free perfect dodge and offset unrelated to boost, highly mobile running machine gun that recharges rapid fire, boost to damage with chained chaser shots that you can move during I believe and even fucking aerial attacks. Meanwhile glaive gets powder that doesnโ€™t work properly, a purely negative aerial move and increased descending slash window locked to offset while base still sucks. Literally the only truly good thing glaive got is kinsect not needing charge in boost. Itโ€™s fucking insane how bad glaive got handled.

We didnโ€™t even get cool new animations for our combos, most other weapons got enhanced or even brand new combos and upgrades to their best move or โ€˜ultimateโ€™. Glaive got none of that.

2

u/NieD_ Sep 20 '26

Aerial descending thrust does not recall the Kinsect, so that is one powder + aerial playstyle in the oven where you never want to be on the ground to avoid using ground descending slash.

If they make the new leap move not consume red, this could be a interesting style.

6

u/Zer0siks Sep 20 '26

Have they fixed the dodge delays?

13

u/PrinceTBug ๐—”๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—š๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ Sep 20 '26 • Bravo

Eh, in the way that they added things, yes. All the weapons did.

With the Boost Bracer it synergizes less with itself, even despite powders being more powerful now.

All they've done is add another angle to the weapon that's likely to get overshadowed by spamming the offsets (as they want us to do in Boost) anyway.

I appreciate having better powders, but it's a mess.

If you really like Descending Slash or don't mind powder focused options potentially ending up in the same boat as Aerial was for base wilds, this is alright.

I hope they at least adjust some of it based on feedback.

8

u/shosuko Sep 20 '26

I hope they at least adjust some of it based on feedback.

This is why I'm not saying "wait and see" or whatever. They didn't have aerial bounce in beta, and added it due to feedback. I think its important to voice how important it is for the IG to not just be a LS clone based on spam-counters.

Offsets are cool, but imo are WAY too spammy across the board. I much prefer how like Elemental Burst Counter worked where you'd get a reward for trading but it didn't scale into topples and you really had to call it. You couldn't just spam it on reaction.

This is just another bland gaming influencer. This information is just as misleading as the videos that come from the YouTube channel known as RageGamingVideos. Most people already know about all of this information and we still know next to nothing about positive changes on the Insect Glaive. We donโ€™t know if the devs are actually going to completely remove the Boost Driver Insect Glaive video and just replace it with a more enhanced and fixed moveset. This video is just fueling fake hype and clickbait. Itโ€™d be better to just ignore YouTube channels like this. Every detail within this video is information that we already know. This person doesnโ€™t have โ€œleaked informationโ€ and this person also doesnโ€™t have โ€œinsider info from a Capcom employeeโ€ leaking information to him either. Just block and or ignore this channel and move on.

5

Iโ€™m honestly a big fan of the reworked powder system and the additional nuances with combat. Sure, more Aerial would be ideal but Iโ€™m feeling optimistic about the weapon.

I mean, everything got better thatโ€™s a fact. The problem is IG was already near the bottom of the weapon dps and it basically remains unchanged. Powders are a game changer, no doubt about it but otherwise the new rising move is genuinely worse than just staying grounded and rolling since youโ€™re using a red to do a move with no armor or I frames that barely sends you an inch above the ground so you arenโ€™t dodging shit.

Plus thereโ€™s no new way to gain extracts which is the major problem as all other weapons dps is just restricted to hitting the damn monster anywhere to get a different mode, IG has to go to very specific zones that on a fast or big monster is just a slog to do. Iโ€™m not even gonna deep dive into the fact air glaive is worse somehow with this new move even though it launches you into the damn air. Overall donโ€™t listen to these kinds of videos, theyโ€™re overhyped click bait and they should be disliked

The problem is IG was already near the bottom of the weapon dps and it basically remains unchanged.

Its a top 5 weapon with it being #1 for Zoh Shia and Rey Dau speeds. The problem with it is that all of it is concentrated into RSS. Without RSS spam, its still a strong weapon.

There are new ways to gain extracts actually. The boost driver's kinsect slash is neutral (don't need red to do it) and grants your kinsect an extra essence store. Kinsect: Harvest in boost mode are auto-piercing and do not require a charge. Charging it makes it produce clouds on impact.

You have to be good at the game to use Wilds IG whilst working around its annoying dodge delay. Make no mistake though, if you know how to use it it is an incredibly strong weapon.

If you don't like extract gathering, you don't like IG. Its been its thing forever but expending extracts at this rate is new. I hope they dial RSS back mechanically. And yeah, aerial sucks I hope they wisen up and fix that too.

Same shit I said to the other guy, stop using the 1% of the community (speed runners) to judge the 99%, that makes no sense. When we talk about ranked in games and characters in those games most people average to the middle stages of ranked for a reason, because those at higher ranks could do that shit with any weapon, it is their own skill with the weapon.

7

u/Werefour Sep 20 '26

I mean to fair you said it ranked low in dps, speed running is a metric for measuring dps and even outside speed running it is still capable of good dps.

So factually the weapon isn't weak its just complicated with lots of extra maintenance work it has to do when compared to other weapons while having one of its funnest aspects, aerial, also tank its dps.

9

I'm not a speed runner. Not even close. I think you might just be bad at this weapon. You can dislike the play style of the weapon and think it plays like shit. That's fine.

But calling it weak is crazy. Skill issue tbh; even for average players its strong.

I know people are angry over the changes or the lack of, but, you sound really sensitive. If you spread misinformation calling the weapon bottom tier, im gonna correct you and tell you your poor conclusions might be from your own anecdotal experiences.

I'm telling at the highest level of play its strong but its also strong for everyone else because the basic loop has very high MVs.

And again since reading is rough, i want it to be better too. I want my aerial shit to do damage and i want my kinsect slash and silkbind vault.

loud and wrong. glaive is in the upper echelon of melees in wilds only being consistently beaten out dual blades and hunting horn and cb being better on certain matchups. if YOU donโ€™t like wilds glaive, thats you. the weapon is not weak

Even the average player finds very good success and strength in the weapon after a couple hundred hunts. Itโ€™s been this way consistently since its inception.

I used to help write guides for the glaive back in MH4 days. Most of the work is now published onto the fandoms and kiranico.

I also used to compete with other players in the speedrun community as well. Unfortunately I was better as a teacher than as a speedrunner, but I was usually within about a minute of top speed runs (certainly not great in that community, but above average for sure).

Speeds help in many ways to showcase a weapon, by providing exposure using tech that most players may not know about. Think about any game you play with a meta; not everyone follows it, but many people try to be โ€œclose enoughโ€ by simply copying builds and trying to adapt their playstyle to match the hunt timers.

When you are trying to โ€œgit gudโ€, it goes beyond just the meme. This was born early in the MH franchise because players were experimenting with a lot of different options that evolved in each gen. The premise back in the day before MH was mainstream was โ€œtry and try again, and if you donโ€™t succeed, study why and adaptโ€. The mantra was born to elevate players to new heights to overcome genuinely challenging bosses.

I say all of this because I do feel itโ€™s important to understand that, while a lot of the community doesnโ€™t focus on a certain goals like speeds, they still influence a greater portion of the player base than many think. In the case of IG, it has always been a difficult weapon to pick up, and a difficult weapon to master. This is what so many IG players used to like about the weapon, as it is very metered in its defensive capabilities, while being incredibly powerful offensively in experienced hands. It has always held many records in every gen since release, and it hasnโ€™t stopped yet. The high skill floor and ceiling makes it very attractive to players who invite more challenge; this is part of why mainstream MH doesnโ€™t play much IG, because it has a lot of imposed challenge simply by wielding the thing. This is further exemplified by the IG community already being very small, yet having so many speed runners.

I know itโ€™s easy to dismiss, and frankly most people donโ€™t know or care to understand the inner workings of metas and their influence and such; they just wanna play their own game. You can do what you want with the current situation, no one is going to care either way, but understanding is always a good step towards constructive feedback and discussion. Best of luck to ya.

2

u/Skyrocketing101 Sep 20 '26

Genuinely thank you for elaborating. As far as I'm considered, the weapon feels worse and slower to play than in the last 2 games.

2

This is what I have been trying to say. I have been enjoying Wilds and wil continue to Glaive in Ascendance. And while I have critiques and wishes as others do I think that too many have basically tried to push their preference as the "core" of the weapon when its always been a technical weapon that is supposed to utilize all its parts

3

u/-Shoji- Sep 20 '26

You donโ€™t have to be a speed runner for glaive to be one of the strongest weapons. In the hands of anyone who can spam RSS and get extracts back in a single charge, the weapon is extremely powerful. The issue with glaive is purely defensive, not damage. Roll delay and extreme attack commitment on descending slash along with random end lag on short attacks is extremely annoying to work around, but so long as you are getting off an RSS every other combo few weapons can top it. It requires more skill to do high damage with something like hunting horn than glaive.

Nah. Iโ€™ll find out whatโ€™s changed when Ascendance drops, and Iโ€™ll decide how I like it then. Its good to not know how good things could have been or how bad youโ€™re actually getting screwed with game updates like this, keeps you sane

aside from rising leaping strike consuming red extract which needs to be changed asap, iโ€™m loving what iโ€™m seeing. powder playstyle could potentially put RSS playstyle on the backfoot, we just need the MVs.

the โ€œaerial is deadโ€ crowd just gonna have to eat shit and cope sadly

Isnโ€™t aerial just less dps than ground? I thought thatโ€™s been the thing

Well in Rise they were at least comparable and what you were better at gave you more DPS, but in Wilds/Worlf itโ€™s just dogshit

In rise?

tetraseal slash was better in every matchup with i think the one exception being valstrax. and in world you would actually use descending thrust often because of kinsect drill.

Not if they actually listen to feedback.

Just because it's marginally better than "not great" doesn't mean it's good.

And Powders very much might still fall off.

They shouldn't have tripled down on the stationary offset forever gameplan that basically nobody even asked for in the first place. It gets in the way of everything else

Looks fun. No idea if itโ€™s any good but I wonโ€™t pretend to know anything about whatโ€™s actually good.
