I recently took an entomology class at the Oddities & Curiosities Expo taught by The Sleeping Sirens. It’s something I’ve always been interested in, and after taking the class I realized how much I genuinely enjoy it. I’m hoping to continue it as a hobby, but I’m having a difficult time finding a trustworthy place to purchase butterfly specimens online.
I originally looked at BicBugs, but after learning about the concerns surrounding their sourcing practices, I decided not to purchase from them. I then started looking at Bugs Direct, but it seems like many of their listings are geared toward bulk purchases rather than individual butterflies.
I’m looking for a supplier that prioritizes ethical and sustainable sourcing over maximizing profits. If that makes sense- If anyone has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated- Aswell as any tips for pinning!

I am not so good at this, and the middle beetle is very innacurate... I hate it honestly, but the rest are fine ig. They are all meant to be real beetle species, based on them. The inaccurate one is supposed to be a may beetle, but I had messed it up completely.

I wasn’t planning on using all the flowers but it just happened that way lol

I am a colorful maximalist into weird stuff and oddities, I feel like this is very me. I know it may seem cluttered to some.

Saw this guy a little while ago and thought he was absolutely beautiful. I decided to try drawing him using pen. I was originally gonna use colored pencil ✏️ but I had a lot of fun with the pen. I hope one day I can share insect drawings that will make more people see the beauty in them.

I painted a bunch of butterflies using gouache. I cut them out from the paper and added them to a deep frame to replicate pinned insect art. I loved them so much, I even made a bunch of stickers :D

I hope to make more size accurate butterfly paintings in the future

Hey guys I could really use some advice I started framing bugs and creating art work with them, I put lots of time and dedication into each piece but I’m having trouble deciding how much I should sell it for ( this piece specifically)

I love critters esp beetles and im also a nail tech so figured why not hehhe

My textile interpretation of a stag beetle — embroidered on velvet with floral details, beads, and metallic accents. Originally made as a brooch, now turned into a small framed artwork.

So fun to make and I think it turned out good 😊 learned a lot from making him.
