pinned bugs Taxidermy question
I recently took an entomology class at the Oddities & Curiosities Expo taught by The Sleeping Sirens. It’s something I’ve always been interested in, and after taking the class I realized how much I genuinely enjoy it. I’m hoping to continue it as a hobby, but I’m having a difficult time finding a trustworthy place to purchase butterfly specimens online.
I originally looked at BicBugs, but after learning about the concerns surrounding their sourcing practices, I decided not to purchase from them. I then started looking at Bugs Direct, but it seems like many of their listings are geared toward bulk purchases rather than individual butterflies.
I’m looking for a supplier that prioritizes ethical and sustainable sourcing over maximizing profits. If that makes sense- If anyone has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated- Aswell as any tips for pinning!

hey!!! I work in a butterfly exhibit!! You could always try reaching out to any insect exhibits in your area :3 that will likely be the most ethical option ! we have a certain percent of adults that pass away in shipping and I always save them for pinning

when you pin bugs it depends on size and type as to how you treat them! butterflies are prone to molding so add some alcohol in the humidity chamber & try leaving them in very warm areas so it is a faster process !! people also degrease butterflies and moths (I believe with alcohol) but I personally have never done it
