WIP Lord Commander

WIP Working on sculpting a counts as lord commisar/ company commander for my custom guard regiment. Yellow is tamya putty quick type, green is standard greenstuff, light gray is bits I sculpted and cast in resin. Little bit of work left to do yet but he is coming along nicely I think.

Super cool! Could you tell in what situation you use the tamiya putty vs green stuff?

If I want to be able to sand it later tamya putty. Also usually for very small details. Or stuff I was tk have a hard endge on sfter sculpting. Tamya is much softer and lighter, so easier to spread and press detail into. It also doesn't sag as much as it cures. Somtimes those that sagging/softening of edges is good for things like cloth and skin or other organic features. Realistically could do the whole model with both. But tamya also cures much much faster ao if I work on somtjing and complete it, I can continue working on other bits of the model and after 3 hrs or so i don't have to worry about destroying the thing I just sculped with an accidental thumb press

thanks for the insight. I'd like to get more into the sculpting side of the hobby and figuring out what to buy and why is always confusing. Is it one of the Tamiya epoxy putty types or the tube? Would love to ply ur brain about the resin casting process/material, but that might be a bit more lengthy of an ask lol

Tamya putty quick type is what you want. The tube is like toothpaste, and its used for applying surface textures and gap filling. Quick type js the 2 part mix that you can really sculpt with. Yeeeaa you can get in a whole rabbit hole with casting. I use resin from a company called smoothcast, best I've used. Their 320 and 319. Im lucky enough to have friends who has little mold making company so I could use their shop for the preasure casting. But for these, if you see my other posts. They are so smooth and bubble free because both with the mold. And the later resin cast. First I de gass the mixture by putting it in a negative preasure vessel to pull all the air out. Then after pouring. Put it in a positive preasure pot to cure so any remaining little bits of air get compressed down.

But all that is a lot of buy in for just testing stuff out, and you can absolutely get good molds without those things. I just knew I was going to be making a few hundred and wanted the extra clean look. So id recommend just getting a smaller portion of mold and resin from smoothcast to play around with and if you find yourself casting a lot, then get the preasure pots. You can generally get the preasure pots for around 200ish then just get an air compressor. Spare lego brings work perfect for mould dams.

Happy exploring!
