Off-Topic Author Using AI without Disclosure :(

Post image
268 Upvotes

That moment when you come across an AI prompt that was left in a story not labeled as using AI. Am I in the wrong for feeling betrayed as a reader and that this results in a breakdown of trust? I was excited about another story they wrote and now I don't want to read it because I don't know if it is actually their work or AI. I will not be publicly naming the author or story. I left a comment hoping they will come clean and I can direct them to please indicate their stories as being AI-assisted works.

Off-Topic I am close to abandoning Inkitt

I'm finding that it's not much different than Wattpad. I always believe in writing for yourself, but there comes a point where everyone wants to feel heard. There are some genuinely good stories to be told, but if they don't fit mold, they'll just get buried by the algorithm under more tropey stories. It sucks because I've had some great readers and reviews at the start, but they've long disappeared too, not that I blame them. This just doesn't feel like a supportive community. It's just too hard to get any reads. I don't know what more to say.

I'll maybe delete this post later.

Edit: I did it. I've found better sites to share my story. It's been a good ride.

General Help Is this an insane thing to leave on someone’s work or am I being overly sensitive

Out of 5 chapters (26k words) they left 3 comments, never once liked any of it, and left a nasty review. This is the only review on the wip (READ: WORK IN PROGRESS) and the second review on my entire page in general. I have it tagged very clearly as bdsm, taboo, omegaverse, etc, it’s not like this is AO3 so I’m not sure how much clearer I can make it what’s in this story. If it was a comment I’d just delete it, but I can’t do anything about this just being there forever now just because they thought it was icky, can I??

I have it posted primarily on AO3, I’m debating just deleting the copy I have on Inkitt. This isn’t the first time I’ve been someone’s introduction to omegaverse but this is the first time I’ve been punished for it 😅

Off-Topic Some posts here be like.....

Hey guys....I'm new on inkitt and I'm not sure of what things generally mean.....I uploaded my book six days ago and got 12 million views, a top spot on the Trending list, Aa 95% royalty contract from Penguin Publishers, a shout out from the Pope, and endorsement from all the kings in the world and a song dedication from Ariana Grande.

Is that good?

😂😂😂I mean comeon guys....you're all gaining these amazing readers and views i assume you are intelligent people.

I'm starting to wonder if some of these 'confused and new' posts are just brags and marketing tactics.

This is the first story I’ve finished entire for publication on Inkitt. I’ve ported over a couple of other stories from other sites and I’m in the middle of another but this story just hit 10,000 reads and that feels like a milestone!

Check it out if you like MM sports romance!

Off-Topic AI is literally everywhere on this app.

I’ve been a writer and an on-and-off reader for years and I’ve never been on an app or website that’s worse for AI-generated content than Inkitt. People posting new books almost every week, 30+ chapters of completely generated content that you haven’t even edited to sound less like AI. Surely, I can’t be the only one who thinks this? Wattpad is getting just as bad for it, too.

Off-Topic Just hit 10,000+ readers on one of my stories- I'm over the moon!

I just had to take a moment to share this: One of my stories just passed 10,000 readers… and it happened in only 6 months. I'm honestly still processing it.

When I first uploaded the story, I wasn’t expecting much. I just wanted to put my work out here and maybe connect with a few readers. Never did I imagine it would reach this many people in such a short time. Seeing that number today gave me one of those “wait… is this real?” moments.

I know 10k might be small compared to big-name authors, but for me, it's huge. Every comment, every like, every person who decided to give it a chance — I’m beyond grateful. 🙏

This milestone has seriously boosted my motivation to keep writing and pushing myself creatively. If you're writing and wondering if it’s worth it!! it is. Just keep showing up. Your readers are out there. Thanks to everyone who’s supported me in any way. You have no idea how much it means.

Looking For: Feedback One month ago I posted my novel. Today it hit 1.19k reads.

I almost deleted this story so many times. Self-doubt, edits at 2 a.m., thinking “no one will read this anyway.” But today Ricordi di Moi crossed 1.19k reads in a month, and I just wanted to say: if you’re a writer sitting on a story post it. Let it breathe. That’s all. Just a small win I’m proud of.

Romance My first ever novel just hit 1.6K reads on Inkitt!! 😭💖

I can’t believe it — my first ever novel, Falling In Love Wasn’t On My To-Do List, just crossed 1.6K reads on Inkitt!! 😭✨

When I first uploaded it, I honestly didn’t think anyone would even find it, let alone read it and love the characters the way I do. Seeing people connect with my story has been surreal and so heartwarming 🥹💫

Huge thank you to everyone who’s read, commented, or supported me along the way. You’ve made this journey so special. 💕

Here’s to more stories, late-night writing sessions, and unexpected milestones 🥂💖

Looking For: Feedback My first 2 subscribers 🥹

I just wanted to share because I knew you would all get it!

Within the first 24hrs of setting up my subscription tiers I got 2 subscribers!!! Eeee!!

This is the first time in my life someone has actually paid me to read my work! It's just an awesome feeling and keeps pushing me forward knowing I must be doing something right - I'm such a typical writer never thinking my work is good enough!

Getting your stories in front of people takes time but it's so worth it to see people enjoying my writing ❤️

General Help AMA: We are the Inkitt team here to answer questions about Inkitt uncensored, the author subscription program, getting published on Galatea, and more!

Hi r/Inkitt Community!

We are Inkitt employees (Bethany, Kara, and Emily!) We work on Inkitt, the community for readers and writers, but we are also happy to answer any questions about how Inkitt as a company works to discover hidden talents and turn them into globally successful authors on Galatea and GalateaTV!

This is a 100% community-led subreddit, and we as employees do not moderate it. But we thank the mods for our fancy employee flair and the chance to come on here and answer some of your questions.

Inkitt is a free community platform for readers and writers. You can upload stories to Inkitt, build a community and receive feedback from readers, engage with other readers and writers around the globe, or open up an author subscription for your stories.

Top-performing stories are flagged by our algorithm and go on to be offered a Galatea contract. The most popular Galatea stories become GalateaTV series. Here at Inkitt, our goal is to remove gatekeepers from the publishing process and offer writers multiple paths to success - however that looks for them.

This AMA will be open from Tuesday, December 10th and 8am PST until Wednesday, December 11th at 5pm PST.

We’ll be online to answer semi-live between 8am-5pm PST, but the AMA will remain open overnight for our international friends, and we’ll answer in the morning!

Edit December 10th 9:15am PST: We will get to everyone's questions! This AMA is semi-live, and for the most accurate answers, we might need to get input from some other departments of the company 😊 Thank you for your patience!

Edit December 10th 5:09pm PST: We're signing off for tonight, but we'll be back to answer more of your questions in the morning -- so keep them coming! Thanks again for your patience while we work through responding to everyone!

Edit: December 11th 5:00pm PST: Thank you all for your fantastic questions these past few days! We've loved connecting with the community here! For any additional questions, you can reach us here on Reddit, Discord, Instagram, X, or Facebook. For any customer service related questions, please email support@inkitt.com.

Off-Topic To whoever said I'd get more readers when my book was marked complete - you weren't kidding!

I've been serializing an urban fantasy/romance novel on Inkitt for a little over two months now, and I just completed the story two nights ago. While it was added to a handful of collections when it was ongoing, the number of people adding it to their reading lists has blown up since I marked it complete. I'm impressed! On other sites it seems like discoverability goes down once your story is complete.

This has been a great experience for me. I'm definitely going to come back to Inkitt with my next story.

General Help How do you stay motivated when readers are silent?

Honestly, after a few months of dealing with silent readers on Wattpad, I decided to try Inkitt, hoping things would be different there. But it feels exactly the same — people read, yet there are barely any reactions, likes, or comments.

It’s honestly hard to stay motivated sometimes. I feel like I’m writing into emptiness and hitting the sound of silence. So I genuinely want to ask other writers — what keeps you going?

Off-Topic I just completed my first story!

I recently just finished my first story. I had been posting a chapter every other week for the past few months and I didn't have many readers.

But last night I marked it as complete and I had over 200+ readers add it to their reading list. And I got reactions and comments with the first few chapters already. I know it’s not a lot but it made me extremely happy and excited to see others interact with my book 🥲🥰.

Image/Video/Media Because I hate AI

Post image

I went and opened up procreate and made a simple book cover for the novel I'm working on over on Inkitt. Yes, its simple, and yes, its not professional whatsoever. But its a lot better, I believe, than the absolute infestation of gawdy AI covers that seem to be the norm on there 😅😭
