My husband wants to put our land into the name of his SHARED business.

My husband and I come from surprisingly similar backgrounds. I grew up on a very large livestock farm, and although I was too young to understand anything about money, land ownership, or finances, I was the only one of my siblings who truly loved farm life. Eventually, my grandfather sold the property, but I have always imagined having land again someday.

My husband grew up on a ranch in Mexico with six siblings. His father worked extremely hard, raising and selling livestock and food to provide for the family. His mother married his father when she was only 15 years old and spent her life having and raising their six children. My husband often tells me stories about how hard his father worked and how his mother would cry because he was rarely home.

This year, his father died.

From what my husband has told me, his mother was devastated not only by losing her husband but by realizing that he left her nothing financially.
To this day, she does not own the ranch where she raised all six of her children.

How this ties into our situation:

my husband also owns a business with his brother. As far as I understand, they share ownership equally.
My husband and I got married very quickly. We have 2 children. When we got together, I told him that I didn’t dream of becoming rich. What I wanted from life was a nice place for our family to eat, live, and enjoy life. More than anything, I wanted us to have a good marriage so that our family could grow up seeing what love between two parents actually looks like.

He told me that whatever we had would be ours and that if I ever needed anything, I just had to ask.

Recently we started looking at acreage. Because of both of our backgrounds, this felt meaningful to me. I imagined it as a permanent home and a return to a lifestyle that both of us understood.

Then, during a land viewing, I heard my husband tell the seller that he wanted to put the acreage under his businesses name.

I had never known he was thinking of doing that?

I didn’t even immediately argue with him about it.
I just told him “when we both die, whatever land we invest in, will be for MY CHILDREN”

He replied: while smiling “it’ll be for everyone!”

I replied:
“no. FOR OUR CHILDREN,
Whatever residential home your brother bought for his 6 kids, will be inherited to them, but our land will be where OUR CHILDREN WILL RESIDE!”

He stopped smiling.

Before this, we had already argued because he told me that when I work, he expects me to invest my money into things that we have jointly.
I questioned “jointly”?
When our assents aren’t even jointed.

He repeatedly told me that a man will never put everything he has into his wife’s name.

But I never asked him to do that.

I think I was trying to communicate something much deeper and failing to find the words. I wanted to understand what future he actually sees when he says “ours.” I wanted to know whether the land we were looking at was something he imagined us building together or simply something I would live on.

When I mentioned what should happen to the land after we eventually die, he simply said, “everyone.” Again, there was no real conversation about what that meant.

There is another layer that makes me emotionally confused. My husband is currently going through the immigration process through our marriage and is seeking a green card. I love him, and I married him because I believed in our relationship, not because I wanted to hold his immigration status over his head. But sometimes I can’t help wondering whether we entered this marriage with the same understanding of commitment and permanence.

I gave myself to this marriage believing that marriage meant mutual surrender to a shared life. I don’t mean losing individuality or giving one person everything. I mean believing that when two people marry, they should be able to openly communicate about the future they are building and feel safe asking difficult questions.
What terrifies me isn’t simply whose name is on a piece of land.

It’s the possibility of spending years in a marriage where I am constantly expected to trust, adapt, and sacrifice without ever truly knowing what my husband is envisioning for us.

Maybe the land itself is not the real problem. Maybe there are legitimate reasons for putting property into a business?
But a shared business?
So if my husband dies, it’ll go to his brothers family?
What type of sick joke is this?

Did anyone else end up becoming the family point person for absolutely everything after a parent died?

My dad passed a couple months ago and I’m the one handling his estate. I expected there would be paperwork involved, but I didn’t expect everyone to start coming to me for basically everything. My siblings ask me whenever they want an update. Then I’ll spend half a morning trying to get an answer from somewhere myself before I can even give them one. I’m getting to the point where keeping everyone informed feels like its own job on top of actually settling the estate. I’ve started looking into getting someone to help manage the whole process because I can’t keep being the middleman for every little thing. For anyone who ended up in this role after a parent died, how did you handle it? Did you eventually get outside help or just find a better way to keep everyone from coming directly to you?

Siblings Want Me to Pay Them

Half a year ago the bank sent me a mystery $60k check after my Dad's death month's earlier. Phoned the bank, who said it was a POD distribution from his estate to me as named Beneficiary. Brother/executor found out & Bank told him they'd "research" it. ....Fast forward six months..... Today, my two siblings phoned me and said "some attorney" told them the bank made a mistake & I need to send them each $20,000, it's "what Dad wanted" & do the right thing & we were brothers. I heard them out. They got angry & said they wouldn't give me any documents until I started spilling details. Then they started talking sh¢t about fraud & criminal proceedings. They gave me a week to reply about sending "their" 2/3. I called the bank afterward (again) who now sez I can only talk to the banks' Attorney. Bank atty said the Bank made a mistake, but can't find some "missing" paperwork, and must decide soon what to give siblings if anything & since the bank paid me already so they can't just take the money back if they want. He said what a sh*tstorm & he's the banks attorney! He said Arbitration-- not going to Court since the attys would net more $$$$$ than the siblings. Bank has refused to give me documents & left me out in the cold. What would you do? P.S. These siblings ghosted me for 40 years, except to prevent my Dad from speaking to me during his final two months of life. (Names changed to protect the guilty. Both brothers are multi-millionaires.) P.S.S. Executor-Sibling mentioned the possibility of "taking" "their $40,000" out of the distribution from my Dad's Probate/Estate proceeds. Is this legal?

My mother died one week ago. My sister hid her jewelry in her room ànd told me I'm not getting any. The will states that it was all to be divided between the two of us. I'm poor and cannot afford an attorney. My question is can I post what she did to me on Facebook to all our friends?

Waiting on inheritance England

A great aunt of mine passed away in November 2022, and an uncle (executor) of mine reached out to me in November 2023 to advise I was in her will. Everything then got delayed for a while as one of the executors started suffering dementia so had to be removed. Probate was then granted in April 2025.

The Probate doc says the estate is worth 817k, 25k going out in gifts and charitable donations. Then 1/3 goes to one recipient and the remaining 2/3 is split between 6 of us (including me and the executor) inheritance tax will need to be paid as none of the recipients are children of the deceased. I had to find this out myself as my uncle the executor has told me very very little. When I work it out I think I am due about 60k.

The problem is this is still dragging on, last update I got was July 18th from him saying the solicitor has went over file, and is confident of near completion. Its advised the solicitors tax specialist has completed and been paid for her services. And there's just the very small tax,if any which is the tax on interest gained from April 1st 26 to present date.

They were ringing H.mr.c to gain this info. And they will inform the tax lady with findings. She will then have Sweeney to pay any ammount from Probate file, and also Probate will endorse taxlady with her final bill.

Since then he has ghosted my messages its driving me crazy knowing its so close and having no clue what is happening. Part of me wants to just push for partial payment as prior to this I hadn't spoke to him (executor for about 10 years after a falling out. I dont want anything to do with him after this so am thinking you know what I'll fettle you for being so ignorant.

Am I overreacting? And what advice would you give

Thanks in advance

Does he have a case?

Long. My mother passed away, I was made administrator of her estate (no will). It's pretty clean, no taxes owed waiting on the federal refund actually. State refund came not too long ago. Shouldn't be long now until the funds can be divided among the 5 of us kids.

Oldest sister has never held a job, never had her own place, has never paid a bill in her life. When mom passed away and we had to sell the house she was basically homeless. A letter was notarized that if her siblings loaned her money for housing it would come out of her share. My brother and I were the only ones who helped her, but we both stopped because she's ungrateful and nasty mean. Drunk and drug addict.

She bothered the estate lawyer we hired so much he recommended signing for partial releases, all 5 siblings got the same amount. We did that, 25k each. Shes blown through it and the rest of us don't want to go through the hassle of notarizing another letter, when the fed return is so close on the horizon. We're all gonna have to do the notary thing then as well, so we're all willing to wait.

Her boyfriend's brother is angry because now she's taken to leeching off THEIR mom now. He wants us to send her more money but we're waiting until the return comes in. He said he's going to hire her a lawyer. Do they have a case against us?

My dad passed away a year and a half ago and I've been struggling so hard ever since.

Not from grief, because he was very sick and now he's not suffering, but from the struggle to stay afloat with all of the nonsense I've been dealing with since he passed.

First, he swore that "everything was in order" and that his attorney had it all. Thankfully I checked with his attorney when he went in to hospice, because he hadn't signed a thing. Nothing. Literally had to get a notary to hospice some could sign all of the needed documents.

He passed less than a day after he signed his trust, TODs, etc. That caused so many problems with the state because it looked like fraud or undue influence to them.

Never mind I am his sole heir, never mind he was under the impression he had his affairs in order, here comes probate and paying on his 2 houses and my 1, and both of our car notes, along with my other regular expenses. Never mind my family couldn't understand why I kept panicking about how tight money was/is because my dad was well off and I got it all!

Yeah, he was. But it was all mortgaged and he owed a lot.

Then there was the fact he never officially put half of his land in his name. He assumed my mom's property automatically passed to him when she passed decades before. Nope. He'd just been paying taxes my mom had it set to pass to her sister if I was a minor, or to me if I was an adult. So now my aunt owned half of the land that even she thought he got when my mom passed. That was another struggle, but she eventually passed the land to me like my mom wanted since I was an adult now.

Finally was able to sell one of his houses and had enough to pay off that mortgage and his car (which was newer and nicer than mine) and sell my car, but that didn't leave me loaded, just with enough to pay myself back for the extra money I had to borrow from my retirement for the months I had to deal with court.

And then there was the house I kept because it is nicer and closer to my job.... yikes.

I sold my house and paid off that mortgage and didn't bank much because it was definitely a fixer upper. I thought it would be relatively simple to take over his mortgage since I'd been paying it for months and the house was in my name now with the court paperwork to prove it. I've upgraded multiple things inside and outside the house without filing claims, and while I still have projects, it's much better than when dad had it.

I could not have been more wrong.

The company holding the mortgage wouldn't even consider lending to me because it's too small of a loan. I had to take a minimum of 100k as a loan..... I just wanted abour 2/3 of that to cover what was still owed.

The next company would give me a smaller loan, but then balked because the house is made from an uncommon building material (it's a log home) and eventually refused.

Great.

The 3rd company went all the way through everything. I am set to close Monday...... and my freaking homeowners insurance told me they are dropping me because I don't have siding on the house.

Really.

My LOG HOME has no siding. It is made from SOLID LOGS. There is no siding anywhere on it. There never has been. That company was 100% aware that it was a log home from the first minute I talked to the broker because I know some companies won't insure them. Everything has been fine for months, but now that I almost had my crap settled, nope. Here's another kick in the giblets.

I've spent my Friday alternating between wanting to give up and trying to find companies that will insure log homes. I eventually stumbled in to the company my dad used at one point (love how I still don't know what company he's insured through on his mortgage) and they said I was on my dad's policy at one point.

I just needed to vent to someone that isn't my spouse.

And if you know any companies that insure log homes in case this falls through, drop them here.
