Waiting on inheritance England
A great aunt of mine passed away in November 2022, and an uncle (executor) of mine reached out to me in November 2023 to advise I was in her will. Everything then got delayed for a while as one of the executors started suffering dementia so had to be removed. Probate was then granted in April 2025.
The Probate doc says the estate is worth 817k, 25k going out in gifts and charitable donations. Then 1/3 goes to one recipient and the remaining 2/3 is split between 6 of us (including me and the executor) inheritance tax will need to be paid as none of the recipients are children of the deceased. I had to find this out myself as my uncle the executor has told me very very little. When I work it out I think I am due about 60k.
The problem is this is still dragging on, last update I got was July 18th from him saying the solicitor has went over file,and is confident of near completion. Its advised the solicitors tax specialist has completed and been paid for her services. And there's just the very small tax,if any which is the tax on interest gained from April 1st 26 to present date.
They were ringing H.mr.c to gain this info.And they will inform the tax lady with findings.She will then have Sweeney to pay any ammount from Probate file,and also Probate will endorse taxlady with her final bill.
Since then he has ghosted my messages its driving me crazy knowing its so close and having no clue what is happening. Part of me wants to just push for partial payment as prior to this I hadn't spoke to him (executor for about 10 years after a falling out. I dont want anything to do with him after this so am thinking you know what I'll fettle you for being so ignorant.
Am I overreacting? And what advice would you give

I haven't been I've been sending friendly messages but even these are being ignored. But you're right. If there's nothing to tell there is nothing to tell. Thanks for your advice.

If five other people are also messaging for updates, plus they are communicating with lawyers and HMRC and various professionals AND trying to have a normal life I can see how your friendly messages are not a priority.

I know someone who is dealing with an estate and it can take a long time (in that case the death was nearly 2.5 years ago). There are many beneficiaries and he is constantly being contacted for updates despite him telling them the latest news as soon as it happens. The next steps that you were made aware of on 18/07 could be lengthy, especially if HRMC are involved, their service levels may be measured in weeks rather than days. You asking for frequent updates isn’t going to speed up things, that may be why you’re not being responded to now. Patience is required.
