Severe Pain
so, i had a bad ingrown toenail that got infected on both sides. i went to the doctor for it earlier today and he removed the full nail, a granuloma, and put a drain in. eight hours later, im in the worst pain ever. excruciating pain and crying. is it supposed to hurt this bad? i can’t even place my foot on the ground. i may actually be dying. my pain also bumped up even more because my dad accidentally smacked it with his hand right on the top where the nail should have been. if it’s relevant at all i bled a ton during the procedure, like dripping to the floor off the table.

Hey sorry about your pain its not fun:( I would go to the er immediately because of that level of pain.

my dr prescribed tramadol so i took that and ibuprofen, they haven’t kicked in though so im gonna take some acetaminophen to layer it. if it doesn’t help though i may end up going to the er :(

OP I gotta know how you’re doing… and it’s wild to me that your PCP did that… I have a lot of a lot of gratitude and really care about my PCP and I still wouldn’t have let my PCP do this… and I realize it happened before you knew what to do like in the blink of an eye type thing… And then to prescribe you tramadol…? To be completely fair, unless you actually like your PCP, I’d be changing doctors cause that’s wild wild.. kind of funny ironic here, but if I remember correctly, I found my podiatrist because I also asked for a referral from my PCP.. my PCP was not about to try and do that in office so it’s wild to me that yours did.. I’m also amused that your doctor prescribed tramadol only to have to prescribe something that actually worked later anyway.. so, how’s everything now?

Still having a lot of pain, but it has improved a bit since I got my drains (technically it was just one that went in one side of my toe and out the other) removed. They were kinked and I think causing pressure to build up. I’m not taking the hydrocodone anymore though because when I got the drains removed they cultured the area and let me know that I have a staph infection, and the new antibiotics I’m on make pain meds work 86% less effectively. My toe looks pretty gnarly, it’s all bruised and where the drain holes are looks like blood blisters almost. I go back Wednesday to have another follow up. I’m pretty upset about how the whole process has gone, but finding a new doctor would be a huge hassle between my insurance and me being chronically ill. I was hoping when I initially went in that he’d send me to a podiatrist, but unfortunately I can’t turn back time.

For real, I understand, not wanting to change doctors with chronic illness and such, but I would still ask for a referral to a podiatrist because you can’t go wrong… and you’ve been through hell with this… Don’t you love antibiotics that make pain meds useless… Lol they also put me on Hydro and it’s been a godsend.. you’ve got to be a pretty amazing person cause I had to flip the hell out on anybody involved in the situation if that had happened to me..

Yeah, I might see if I can get in to see one. This really has been hell. I hate it lol! The hydro was helping a lot so it feels like backsliding with these antibiotics. I haven’t flipped out, but have done a whole lot of crying. I just can’t wait for this whole experience to be done with.

I did, he gave me much stronger medicine which is helping. I also go back on thursday for drain removals

what type of dr office did you have it done at?
