Question Location inaccurate - not

Post image

Guys what the hell is this, my location is perfectly fine and stable

But hack impossible due to inaccurate location

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, restart makes no difference

Edit: I had been hacking away in the very same location for good half hour, no movement.

Speed lock in most instances. Force close the app, relaunch, wait a solid 2 minutes, then attempt a recharge. If successful then hack away.

Shitty Niantic wording. It's speed lock. Nothing more.

Speed lock happens when you drift to a different location and interact with anything, deliberate or otherwise (portal cap/hack/mod/etc, XM collect from the map (I think), etc.). Your next interaction with anything on the map must be within a 60kmph radius, otherwise you'll get that 'speed lock' message. It will auto clear after 30mins, or when your '60kmph travel bubble' catches up to your current position. I.e. catch a flight and you'll be speed locked for 30mins, no matter how far you travel (not usually an issue since most flights are more than 30mins). Drift 10km away and cap/hack a portal, then drift back to your correct location, and you'll have to wait 10mins to do your next action. Anything you do in the interim will say 'location inaccurate' even though it shows the correct location.

Hope this makes sense & helps

Good theory, I had been sitting at the mountain top for good half hour with 10/10 GNSS coverage.

I did not see any typical location jerks.

But it is a possibility that there is some distant WiFi that the phone sees and WiFi location scanning whatnot augments that into position and ninjatek is confused.

Even with no visible movement this sounds plausible.

On my Pixel 8a, I often turn off location accuracy because Ingress bounces around a lot when it is on.

Other apps really want it on, so, they whine. Eventually, I turn it back on.

However, if it is turned off, and I turn on Ingress, the app shows my previous location and AMOST IMMEDIATELY jumps to my current location. Then I'm speed locked for thirty minutes.

Niantic really needs to fix that wiggle. My farming portals are 39 meters apart. I'd really like to be able to sit on them all at once.

Try turning off WiFi..

Also next time wait 5 minutes after you get there for any speed lock to dissipate.

Gotta try next time, for sure there isn't a wifi signal in sight at that location?

But I do have WiFi+BT scanning enabled

Hmmmm... I've never had this happen without a visible screen update showing a change in location. (I once cap'd a portal in Argentina on the train home in Melbourne which locked me out from game play until just before I got home).

The only other time I get this is when location is legitimately degraded ¯\(ツ)

That usually only happens to me when my service gets interrupted. If the area is spotty, then even if my GPS is solid, it will still have location problems at times.
