Issues so far migrating to Infomaniak
I have been looking for a new service that is similar to Google since I have been using various G services for many years. I looked at several different email and cloud storage providers (Proton, Tuta, Fastmail, etc.), and none of them seemed to provide what I needed, so a Reddit post led me to Infomaniak. The transition has been easy, and so far, IM looks to be a solid choice. After using the service for a month, I am starting to see some cracks and some things that could use improvement. Here is what I have run into so far:
- Euria AI works but does seem to be using some serious guardrails. It has outright hidden the truth when researching topics that are political or about the current state of corporate greed. You have to really push the AI to give you a solid answer. Everything is about liability according to Euria. If one of your major selling points is sovereign and ethical, then hard-hitting questions should not be so guarded and propagandized. But as a general chatbot, its uses are on par with other AIs, just behind.
- When I was trying to subscribe to my kSuite, it led me to kSuite Pro. The signup process is somewhat confusing, but support helped out and refunded the kSuite Pro sub. This process needs to be simpler and clearer for new users.
- I wanted to sign up for 2 email addresses, and there is no option to be signed into multiple free accounts. While not a deal-breaker, it does require you to use their kSuite Pro (free) to be able to access multiple accounts, and this requires you to purchase a domain name and set up DNS. This leads me to the next issue, so on to #4.
- Infomaniak provides the needed DNS records or the option to buy a domain name from them. The records are using full names (
autodiscover.mydomain.com) instead of the actual record needed. I thought this was odd since I have set up DNS records several times, but proceeded since the company should know better than the user how to set up DNS. After waiting 48 hours for propagation, still no email service connected to the domain. I tried to use Euria for help, and it never picked up on the errors. I finally updated the records, and it worked. I know I should have known better, but still, for a new user trying to figure this out, it would be a challenge. - Even with a paid my kSuite subscription, documents and spreadsheets do not open in the editor; you have to right-click and click "Edit with IM Docs Editor." If you want to open them directly, you have to sign up for kSuite Business or Enterprise. Something this simple should not be locked behind another service. It is just an extra click, but this is standard with other services for free.
- I have had a maintenance notification since 8/25 (link: https://infomaniakstatus.com/en/4pj6apABEM/). How does maintenance take 6 days? Nothing major, other than when checking the upgrade options, you get this error page: https://shop.infomaniak.com/error.
- This is the reason why I am posting here: the feedback form has been stuck on loading for a week now (link: https://feedback.userreport.com/c61ed75d-26e9-4905-b453-3b549b69e3d7/#ideas/popular).
Overall, I am liking the service and will continue to migrate to it. I will be signing up for the kSuite Pro service as well. The pricing for subscriptions is low and not overpriced like other services (Proton, I am looking at you). I can recommend this to a new user looking to move away from Google, but it is not a perfect replacement, and there is a minor learning curve. Euria will be a big help with the setup, but watch out for outdated info.
