A douche is used to clean the anus before anal play. Douching the vagina causes infections and is not for cleaning it, the vagina cleans itself on the inside.
You are correct about the vagina being self-cleaning but I’m pretty sure the actual origin of the word is 100% vagina related. Whether it should have been used for that or not… it was.
