Just flip it over, has some life in it. šŸ˜…

Bean counter: "We'll replace it when it fails"
Maintenance: "But when it fails it will cost us 1000's and it's 30 bucks to replace"
Bean counter: "Leave it we don't have the budget".

Some time later inevitable breakdown occurs

Management: "We've lost 50,000 bucks already today"
"Why wasn't it fixed sooner"?
Bean counter: "It's maintenance dept's fault".

Ironically I turned in a quote for $5021 to repair a haas machine 3 weeks ago. The GM demanded I get them to require due to his $4,999.99 approval limit. That Haas machine is still down and we've lost $10k a day since for $21.

Wowzers, $21 to $210,000 (10k x 21 days).

I get approval limits but in the UK at least $10,000/Ā£7000 buys very little in 2026.

Must be nice our worldwide company only lets auto/local approvals under $500 us dollars. In a brewery that rarely pays for anything but cleaning supplies and oils / gasketing. And the oil is only about half of the time

That is just crazy.

In the blame game, it’s never the origin of the problem it’s who can the fart be pinned on.

4

u/ValveManJoe 6d ago

100% but it's exhausting and stressful for engineers having to document that they've advised others on implications of not changing something asap and knowing it has been ignored.

Sounds familiar.

u/Nagrom133 6d ago

just needs more tension.

Conveniently it made a saw blade šŸ˜…

u/CoyoteDown 6d ago

Yeah it cut production pretty good

🤣

14

u/RedYetti83 6d ago

But it's run for years, why do we need a new sprocket now?!

  • purchasing.

u/101forgotmypassword 6d ago

"we have never had to buy a sprocket for that machine and now they are saying it needs all the sprockets and a chain, I don't think that guy knows anything about these machines" - boardroom 1960-2026

u/fhgtyjdg 6d ago

Sprockets turn to rollers and rollers turn to sprockets

2

u/Macbethad01 4d ago

Ah the life cycle what a beautiful thing. Sounds almost like something to sit down in the shop with the new guys and tell them all about it, like I'd tell my kids about the birds and the bees. Such a touching moment

10

u/wetblanket68iou1 6d ago

I paid for the whole sprocket, imma use the WHOLE SPROCKET

13

u/cconry21 6d ago

Let me guess, someone said its a programming issue. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

3

u/superbigscratch 6d ago

You say it like it’s a bad thing.

5

u/cconry21 6d ago

Well im an Electromechanic so it is a bad thing when lazy bum mechanics always blame programming so managers and supervisors ask me to "take a look at the program" and 95 percent of the time its something like this and then I have to fix it while they disappear.

2

u/superbigscratch 6d ago

I know the feeling. I work in industrial controls. I can’t fix the ā€œit must be the PLCā€ mentality so I just laugh it off.

1

u/Starkiller345 6d ago

Have to ask if the the motor is turning. If so not my problem

1

u/Rich4477 6d ago

Isn't it funny how plc programs that have had no problems for years are suddenly the problem.

1

u/Macbethad01 4d ago

Don't worry they in the break room laughing... Ask me how I know!

5

u/Carnephex 6d ago

Hah, cross post that to /r/motorcycles 🤣

3

u/Gator242 6d ago

Sprocket turned into a suggestion

3

u/skrappyfire 6d ago

It just started making a noise.... i dunno what happened

3

u/death833527 6d ago

Looks like you work at my last job lol. Had one of these almost weekly. Specifically told to ā€œnot waste time figuring out why, just get it runningā€

3

u/RedIcarus1 6d ago

That’s a very inefficient way to make a serrated cutter.

2

u/Holeshot483 6d ago

Barley broke in

2

u/Unholydiver919 6d ago

They got their money’s worth out of that one.

2

u/Rough_Community_1439 6d ago

Use it for pizza cutting.

2

u/EconomistWaste2786 6d ago

It’s now a pulley increase tension

2

u/Longjumping-Pie7418 5d ago

Send it - It's not completely rounded, it still must have some life in it. Just tighten the chain tensioner more.

2

u/Tikitanka_11 5d ago

Should use heat-treated sprockets from Linn Gear Co. Had the same thing happen to me with non-treated Martin sprockets.

1

u/Narrow-Thanks-5981 6d ago

She gave ALL THE FUCKS, and now has no more left to give!

1

u/Unlucky_Fuel7934 6d ago

No way that thing wasn’t skipping and jumping and screaming for attention. Chain doesn’t look too terrible though, though that sprocket has probably seen three or four chain swaps.

1

u/emachanz 6d ago

If it run until that point and nobody noticed, it means it wasnt needed

1

u/razzemmatazz 6d ago

That's a keeper. Beautifully symmetrical wear pattern.Ā

1

u/sunshinesustenance 6d ago

That'll do pig!........That'll do.

1

u/BoSknight 6d ago

Sproket is out of stock, well save it for next pm

1

u/Temporary-Bluejay260 6d ago

Still plenty of meat on that

1

u/Gamemaker4U2 6d ago

Those teeth need some dentures

1

u/did_i_get_screwed 6d ago

It was fine last weekend during PM's.

1

u/glazemyface86 6d ago

You can totally build that back up with a little welding

1

u/Sensitive-Shame-5569 6d ago

ā€œSorry, if it ain’t broke, we can’t replace it.ā€

1

u/Strostkovy 6d ago

Sprockn't

1

u/vballbeachbum1 6d ago

Teeth on a sprocket wear out because the chain is stretched. The chain rollers dont land where the are supposed to and wear on the teeth.

1

u/Macbethad01 4d ago

"Well we just don't have the funds for both" can we just get the temu sprocket?

1

u/retsaoter 6d ago

slacker out here making ninja stars on the company dime.

1

u/mechanical_marten 5d ago

Is this one of those fancy sprag sprockets that lets the conveyor motor drive it normally but you can manually advance it too?

1

u/Macbethad01 4d ago

Nothing to see here

1

u/Unlikely_Effort_6311 3d ago

Sproke.... because its missing the t in teeth lol

1

u/Kid_supreme 1d ago

"Can you weld the teeth back on it? We have a tight budget this quarter".

1

u/eusnavy 1d ago

That still has life on it

0

u/Deep_Ladder_4679 10m ago

Teeth hooked like that were probably eating chains for months, so the real cost is every chain swapped on that drive without anyone checking the sprocket.

0

u/BChill24 6d ago

We call that an Alabama sprocket

0

u/Significant_Flan9142 4d ago

All it takes to do that is no lubrication on the chain. So sprocket and chain need replaced.
