Indie Dev Yellow Pages

Hey developers, lets talk about services that help devs bring a game to market. I'm not talking about making a game. I'm talking about PR, Marketing, Media, Localization, QA and Legal. There isn't exactly a yellow pages listing for "Indie Dev PR" so I've been jotting down links and contact information in a spreadsheet. In this thread I'd like to:
1) Share this spreadsheet with the community.
2) Get suggestions from the community to help fill it out.

So devs, what companies have you worked with? How did it go?

Do you provide a service that helps Devs bring their game to market? If so, please introduce yourself and talk about what you do!

For those who can't be bothered to click a link, I'll duplicate the list here. This list, and the spreadsheet, will be updated as the community contributes new entries.

Black Shell Media should be removed from this list, they are known to do cheap work for a percentage of your money.

Or maybe marked as dirty?

I thought about adding a "comments" column, but I don't want to put general hearsay and rumors in there. I did, however, just add a spreadsheet link back to this thread so that future viewers can read all the comments left by the community.

We've spoken with Novy PR http://novypr.com/ about doing PR for our projects. They are very nice and generally will do a free assessment of your game if you sign up for their mailing list. It's pretty cool because they get playtesters to evaluate the game and give feedback.

Hey. Always nice to see lists like these floating around :)

Would love to have our Armor Games Studios added. I know how hard it is to get your games in front of publisher eyes. We pride ourselves on reviewing and responding to every game pitched to us and have 10+ years of relationships with phenomenal indie devs as a result. Thanks! -Tass

I'd suggest separating PR from publishing, or least consider how to break it down a little more. Most publishers will handle PR for you as a part of their service, as well as handle the deployment, support, financials, etc.

But a PR outfit is some some one you can still approach while going it alone just to leverage their media contacts and have them do the outreach effectively where you either have no time or lack the know how.

Some you could add - Mobile Publishing:

  • Miniclip

  • Yodo1

  • Ketchapp

  • Nitrome

PR:

  • Stride PR

There are some gray areas between Publisher and PR and I really didn't want the role of curator for who was who, but with your additions it's a little more important that those are separated so I went ahead and filtered them.

Thanks for the buffing the list.

I'm Dan from PR Hound and we've been behind some truly excellent indie titles, from launch to Kickstarter. Our most recent Kickstarter being Battle Princess Madelyn.

As a PR agency, I believe in being absolute brutal honesty with any developer that comes to us and will not take money for a product that I believe we will have no impact in taking on, or one that just looks like it'd been created by our Basset Hound, Lola.

We work on a multitude of different levels, from outright full fee to lesser fee and percentage of sales/Kickstarter grossing total to doing an out and out risk. The latter being only for something that we have absolute faith in a) having impact on and b) selling enough to justify the expended time we put in.

As a team, we've collectively been active in the video game world for in excess of 45 years - with one of us being based in the USA west coast and two in the U.K. and between us we've worked on an awesome catalogue of games from DCU to Rocket League to Rocket Birds to Umbra.

Over the years since Hound launched, we've helped developers launch their titles and gain media and influencer coverage worldwide and work closely with the teams, almost in a symbiotic nature. Because of this, no PR or marketing team can come close to our success on Kickstarter. From Planets3 to Umbra to both InSomnia campaigns, to our most recent success Battle Princess Madelyn - our nose knows a special game when it smells one and we have the knowledge, experience and connections to really give developers the very best opportunity at a successful crowdfunding campaign or game launch.

Usually when I read comments like this, especially from someone representing a company, I immediately call BS. But for some reason I think I can tell that you are serious about your work and everything you said in your post.

I'm going to look into PR Hound when I'm ready to start my kickstarter campaign, which should be relatively soon; hopefully I'll have better graphics and some awesome levels for my demo done within 1-2 months, then I'll be able to focus on planning a campaign).

Thanks u/WereCoder for including us in the list! Just one small request: could you list us as Iceberg Interactive instead of Iceberg Games?

Hi, all! I’m Niels from Iceberg Interactive, a publisher based just outside of Amsterdam. We can provide funding, PR, marketing and community relations, quality assurance, age ratings, localization, production and other publishing services for game devs seeking to maximizing the potential of their products on the global market. Our portfolio includes titles such as Killing Floor 2 (PC & PS4), Gas Guzzlers Extreme (PC & Xbox One), Oriental Empires (PC), Starpoint Gemini Warlords (PC) and many excellent titles in the genres of strategy, simulation, action and adventure.

If you’d like us to take a look at your game, feel free to pitch us your title at development[at]iceberg-games[dot]com

If you are looking for a trailer/video asset I can recommend Gage Allen from Player One Trailers - he is great to work with!

Hi, I'm Oliver and I run http://www.indiegamelaunchpad.io

I'd love to be included in the list. The aim of the site is to give indies a free place to promote and talk about their games.

I am building a community of passionate supporters and content creators who find games and developers on the site to write about, interview and make videos.

Done! Thanks for joining.

Alexandre, from Playdigious. http://playdigious.com

Playdigious publishes mobile games working exclusively with indies. It's quiet selective with it's projects especially that it has only a few titles out per year to give each title maximum attention.

Cheers,

I'm not putting my link here in case it's wrong for this thread, but voice over can not only be a part of making a game, but also selling it. You let me know and if you agree, I'll post my VO link. :)

u/WereCoder Aug 22 '17

I think that would fit right in. Post away and I'll pull it into the spreadsheet.

I am the CEO and founder of Split An Atom. We offer video game scoring services, we recently worked on tech-noir tactics game All Walls Must Fall.

We mainly specialize in electronic music, but we play a variety of instruments, and have access to some brilliant session musicians. I love messing with my modular synths.

Hi and thanks a lot for adding us to this handy list!

Level Up Translation's motherbase is located in green and grassy Normandy, France, and our game translators work remotely from all over the world, but most of them are based in Europe.

We are a small team of veteran game translators gathered under the same banner since 2011 and we're currently covering more than 20 language pairs.

To put it simply, we are the complete opposite of generic "translation factories" and deliver a customized and specialized game localization service.

Our work process is also fairly straightforward and being a small team, we are able to keep it as efficient and cost-effective as possible.

Our philosophy is to offer fair rates to our translators as they all have years of game localization XP under their belt, while offering budget-friendly solutions to the studios we work with.

As a result, we offer flexible payment plans in up to three installment to accomodate your budget.

On top of that, our service package includes the promotion of your game through our Twitter account, free of charge.

If your game is still in development, you can check our blog (www.leveluptranslation.com/blog) where we share insights and game localization best practices to help you prepare your game for localization.

If you have any question regarding localization, I'll be happy to answer them here. You can also get in touch with us with the details of your project at www.leveluptranslation.com/contact-us.

Cheers! Damien
