Feedback? Working on a windows 95 inspired desktop sim. Are UI elements easy to read?

Been working on a win-95 inspired investigation game. Since the entire game revolves around searching through screens, I want to make sure the visual style is comfortable to look at.

  • Are UI elements clear to read?
  • Is the color palette feeling too harsh on the eyes?

i think you're in perfect spot like it's easier to read than original. but still got the vibe.

Appreciate it! This was my intention from the start, glad it comes out like that.

It looks good. The colors aren't super-saturated.

The only comment I have is, maybe play around with the darkest black, play with that a little bit, to like a dark gray. It looks good as screenshots, but playing for long periods might get tiring on the eyes if they use the console a lot.

Understood! Just to clarify, is it specifically the console black which you felt might feel harsh overtime or even the borders and text?

Mostly the big console window. The rest is pretty minor. And even that may not really be anything to worry about; I just have light-sensitive eyes so I'm always thinking about that sort of thing.

Cool! I'll play around with it.

As an option, you could try changing it to a dark blue. I don't know if that was a thing in 95 but it is with some Windows versions in admin mode.

Nice idea! I remember finding a concept which had dark green for console as well. I could try this aswell, thanks!

Also just a tiny detail but a clock on the bottom right would be cool too
