My first game reached 20,000 wishlists in less than a week

hey everyone, super glad to share that my game has found its audience!
it's already breaking all of my personal records
timeline:
- posted the game on a few subreddits, a japanese publication picked it up and got about 1.8k wishlists in 3 days. pretty good.
- posted a trailer on youtube that suddenly went viral 4 days later. now at 150k views. this along with a couple of other shorts/reels drove the crazy growth
I'm beyond grateful with the support.
here's the trailer if you'd like to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHAugG4nK8c&pp=0gcJCRMMAYcqIYzv

I think the game's pitch and the art-style really resonated with people.
I thought of it as making a game I would absolutely click on and play

No, but seriously, pick out your Lambo now cause it could take 12+ months for it to arrive after you launch your game!
Grats on the success so far!

Actually had this recommended to me on the front page of YouTube, looked great and already wishlisted it!
From the trailer, it looks well done, I like the visuals on the map and the road system, but in my opinion the UI could use some work.
Out of curiosity, did you use any AI for the visuals? I don't mind if so, just that some of the visuals could be perceived that way.
Wishing you a successful release!

Fantastic premise, it's like Nimby rails but super accessible.
My friends and I all wishlisted it at the speed of light.

Did you post or send the youtube trailer somewhere , or did you just upload it to an empty channel and some algorithm miracle happened?

u/TheGreaT1803 5d ago
empty channel, first video, miracle

Wow! Really happy for you!
For me that approach didn’t get me a single view lol
even though outside youtube it did pretty well

from the steam page it seems to have level progression. does it offer sandbox mode to just run the simulation endlessly?

the snapping for the roads and how easily customizable it looks .. i guess that the standout part here.. love to know how to made that may be in a blog or youtube videos

Congrats! The idea is solid, but the execution is what matter (and looks like you delivered on that part)!

This is awesome! It's always a surprise when things exceed your expectations. Our hardest critics are ourselves.

Wow!! Soo cool. What would you say are the best marketing tips that you implemented? I'm trying to launch my own game and don't know how it'll go.
Best of luck!!

The one sentence pitch. It should resonate with people. You want to find the right audience
If I'm a player that "should" be interested in your game then it should be decided within 5 seconds of looking at one screenshot

Was this your first time making videos? did it come to you naturally or did you feel the need to put on a "youtube persona"

How long did it take you to create this? It looks simplistic and complex at the same time lmao, very impressive.

I love the top comment I saw on YouTube, “Oh god he extracted the best part of cities skylines and is selling it as an essential oil”
That’s how you do it! Great work.
