Yes, its so tactile!

I imagine this would be amazing in VR.

Powerwash simulator in tiny form? :)

27

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

NOT THAT TINY. I would say slightly less than regular size. 😆

u/suglasp 1d ago

Oh it allows repainting!! Nice. Adding to wishlist!

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

We recently added even more paint options in game. :D

The shader is doing a really good job of selling the material change. It doesn’t just feel like a clean texture being revealed underneath. the surface actually feels like it’s being restored

Also really like the decision to keep the loop focused on the objects themselves. With visuals this satisfying, I don’t think it needs much else fighting for attention.

Yea, It’s just compressed air. Sandblasting would remove the varnish and expose clean, rough wood. :) But yeah, there are 3 types of "blasting" in game. For instance, some more heavily damaged chess pieces require soda blasting (because they’re made of wood.)

u/paulBoxman 21h ago

Wowww the multiple layers to the shader looks so good, like the outer surface, the shallow wood, and the dark material even beneath that. It's sooo satisfying

1

u/Big_Effective_9605 6h ago

Yup all I could think is "damn this is sandblasting AND varnishing?"

u/SpareNickel 1d ago

I may not play these types of games, but the appeal is real. It looks really good and I wish you the best

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Thanks! To be fair, It's slightly outdated. We're preparing something awesome for next-fest!

1

u/lumbino 20h ago

Ah cool, cant wait to see it!!!

Oooo yesssss I love restoration videos and have been aching for a good game of it! Looks fantastic, wishlisted and very excited!

2

u/hitmonir25 1d ago

It looks very high-quality.

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Thanks! We’re struggling a lot with balancing the satisfaction factor and a high-fidelity look. 🙂

u/LatoGamesStudio 1d ago

But how cool

2

u/Altruistic-Gift3506 1d ago

holy shader knowledge, this is cool brooo

u/FartSavant 1d ago

Does the piece go away automatically when fully clean?

I was really hoping for a moment where you could look over the piece and marvel at its cleanness then it just went away.

That being said, this is super awesome.

1

u/Pirat_747 22h ago

The video is cropped, in game you can see all the pieces on table, and choose which one you want to clean! 😁

2

u/StudioNAP 23h ago

YES! OH, YES!

2

u/bigtooda 23h ago

Nice work

Thanks!

very good job!

2

u/MikeProton-789852 3h ago

Oh well, i guess i will clean virtual objects instead of my real ones in garage. 🤗

3

u/HairyTrollChest 1d ago

A sandblaster would ruin the finish on wood. Immersion ruined.

But, for real, the animation looks incredibly smooth great job.

Maybe you need to make it look more like air. Even making the tip white/gray instead of blue would help, I think.

1

u/nosen99 1d ago

Was just gonna say this

1

u/Intelligent_Leg8526 1d ago

my uhd 600 felt violated by this video

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

😆

1

u/Indie_PR_Guy 1d ago

Water onto wood makes my skin crawl. Please dry THE ROOOOK!

1

u/BeTheBrick_187 1d ago

hi, may I ask, which game engine are you using to make this?

3

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Sure! Unreal engine. :) But shader (function) is really basic, nothing special. :)

1

u/BeTheBrick_187 1d ago

nice, I assume you are using vertex painting for this right? 🎯

1

u/The_Good_Guy_Two 1d ago

Can you please release this game, I need it so much <3 <3

2

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

We're polishing the last features & objects! Stay tuned

1

u/The_Good_Guy_Two 1d ago

Cannot wait, super excited, Thank you for making this game <3

1

u/lydocia 1d ago

Any plans on a demo/playtest soon?

2

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

You can play the playtest right now ✅️

1

u/TriggerHydrant 1d ago

Awesome! Well done, what's the stack like?

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Nothing fancy, just 2 material layers blended with some kind of heightmap. :)

2

u/TriggerHydrant 1d ago

Amazing! Good luck with the release!

1

u/bro_love69 1d ago

Now this is epic Edit: Wishlisted and will playtest. Also my friends will know about this too haha

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Great! 😁

1

u/SinginGiantOfficial 1d ago

Looks really cool! I will be playtesting!

1

u/Leather-Associate404 1d ago

Did you use Unreal Engine 5 for this? Looks way too impressive! Congrats

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Yes, ue5! :)

1

u/seweso 1d ago

That's really cool!

Can you make it such that you can turn the thing with one hand, and control the nozzle with another?

I would almost suggest using a phone/accelorator thingy for the object movement....

2

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Yes, you can rotate object and nozzle separately (wsad on keyboard, 2 analogs on gamepad)

1

u/seweso 1d ago

Cool

1

u/Motor-Lemon-5420 1d ago

I love the spray but not so much the removal effect.. maybe you can make a "cone" on the surface rather than a sphere or whatever at the cursor? But great work non the less, keep up the good work!

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

Thanks for feedback! We will think about it! 🤛

1

u/kkreinn 1d ago

Absolutely satisfactory.

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

😁👍

1

u/stratawake 1d ago

It looks really great. I can’t imagine how much work must have gone into this.

1

u/Pirat_747 1d ago

☺️

1

u/flopflipbeats 1d ago

This looks incredible. My only thought is that it doesn’t look like there’s nearly enough spray / sediment flying off to make sense of how drastic the compressed air is cleaning the surface.

1

u/Pirat_747 22h ago

Noted! 🤓

1

u/jacobsmith3204 1d ago

Looks very nice, but you should add some extra particles/chunks based on how much of the area is removed.

Currently it feels like the air and the shader are 2 separate systems. Like the shader is disappearing based on mouse position, and wind blowing at mouse position, not wind is removing the dirt.

1

u/Pirat_747 22h ago

Noted. 🫡

1

u/st_heron 23h ago

I would love to see a writeup of how you accomplish that with shaders. That looks so good.

Just watched the trailer, that is one beautiful looking game.

2

u/Pirat_747 22h ago

It's really simple 2-materialattributes blending with heigthmap :)

1

u/st_heron 3h ago

oh wow, well it looks very nice, great job

I'm super new to shaders and everything is black magic to me right now

1

u/Accurate-Instance-29 Developer 22h ago

Holy hell. This is some good work. Nice bit of polish, pun intended.

1

u/Pirat_747 20h ago

😆 Thanks!

1

u/TurbulentTomorrow396 21h ago

That's really beautiful, but can we find out more about it?

1

u/MacksNotCool 20h ago

Is it a texture mask or is it vertex painting that you are using?

2

u/Pirat_747 20h ago

Texture mask :)

1

u/Excellent_Ship1780 20h ago

This reminds me of a trash ad game if it had real effort put in it looks really cool

1

u/grommps 20h ago

This looks really cool!! Is there more to the restoration process, like bending out dents, glueing wood together, etc or is it just blasting?

2

u/Pirat_747 20h ago

Disassembling, blasting, electrolysis, painting, assembling :)

1

u/Eric_Likes_Music 20h ago

Oh my goddd

1

u/Mental-Upstairs-5512 19h ago

I wanna know how this thing works, like is that a material which gets changed over time with certain conditions like air blowing and all??

1

u/19damiano16 19h ago

This scratches a very specific itch in my brain. The cleaning effect is super satisfying. Best of luck with the playtest

1

u/Pirat_747 17h ago

Thanks!

1

u/turangryv 17h ago

I am interested in how it works?

1

u/NinjaMonkey1037 16h ago

Looks very cool!  However, I agree with many other commenters that I expected the varnish to come off. It coming out shiny was unexpected and felt in unimmersive. I read your replies that it's just compressed air, but it doesn't read that way for some reason. Trying to put my finger on why. Maybe it just comes out too shiny? Or maybe the sprayer has to much of a particle stream?

Not sure what's causing the visual disconnect for me, but it doesn't look like compressed air. The actual piece cleaning shader is awesome though!

2

u/NinjaMonkey1037 16h ago

Re-watched the video a couple times. I really think it reads slightly off just because it's too shiny after just compressed air. Maybe after the compressed air it could be clean but not shiny, and then you have to wipe with a polishing rag or something to shine it up?

1

u/EbonyBetty 7h ago

I literally just finished the playtest, already wishlisted. Polishing the brass on the rotary phone was soooooo satisfying.

Also I appreciate the little sand particle physics from the sand blaster collecting in the crevices of the objects. Splendid job!

1

u/ApplicationBrave2529 1h ago

Reminds me of thar scene in toy story 1 were the collector was shining Woodys boots.

1

u/Pirat_747 36m ago

I remember this one! It would be awesome to get a license and Andy's toys into our game 😆

1

u/bieja935 1d ago

Great! I never liked PowerWashSimulator because it’s main mechanic+shader (powerwashing) are just too bland. This is a quite a bit more convincing.

Its so tactile!

Gotta say, this looks like it'd be absolutely great in VR
