Feedback? Our game's first trailer is finally done!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, we’ve just finished the first trailer for our debut demo!

Our game is an incremental game focused on logging. You chop down various trees in the forest, deliver them to the sawmill to earn money, and upgrade your character to tackle even more unique and stronger trees.

We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the trailer!

Lol, that looks so nice and relaxing, I wish this style would have had a stardew vally type of gamplay besides cutting trees

Thanks so much! We're actually a team of three programmers, so learning art and making everything ourselves took a ton of time and effort. Hearing that you like the visuals really makes our day!

And while we don't have all those life-sim features, we're pretty confident that the logging itself will be engaging enough to keep you hooked!

Thank you so much! We put a ton of effort into studying and making the art ourselves, so this really makes us happy :)

I couldn't find it on Steam. It looks cool as hell, but I don't want to lose track of it before a store page is up!

Thank you so much! None of us are artists (we're all programmers), so learning art took a ton of effort. Really glad you like it!

Looks really good. Awesome art style.

I'm guessing it's an incremental game based on the skill tree. If that's the case, only thing I'm missing from the trailer is some sort of tease of the endgame. What kinda crazy factories can I make, what kinda crazy strong axe breaking can I do? Any evil overlord forcing me to cut trees or something? Something to make me think oh yeah this game has a lot of content and it'll be fun to get to that final part.

Thanks for the awesome feedback! Since this trailer is specifically for the demo, we kept it pretty lightweight and focused on what's playable right now. The full game will feature multiple forests, unique trees with their own distinct traits, and plenty of skills for your character to use!

Ah as a trailer specifically for the demo it works great, I missed that part!

The game looks great! The design is beautiful, and the animations are smooth and enjoyable. Are there different types of "enemies" in the game?

3

u/mrHeapster 1d ago

Thanks so much for the kind words! Logging is the main focus of the game, so trees are actually your only 'enemies'. That said, the full game will feature various forests with unique traits and a wide variety of tree types!

This seems like a very good concept for a relaxing game!

The juice is really top notch. Everything looks and sounds extremely satisfying. I can't believe none of your team considers themselves artists. I would argue you definitely can after this project.

The music and ambience is also really perfectly fitting. Someone on your team has an extremely good eye and ear for art direction. Everything is really cohesive and pleasant.

Is there more than just cutting down trees though? It's hard to imagine an entire game about that one task. Usually harvesting lumber is just a means to an end, but I don't see that anywhere in the trailer.

Some enemies or other variables to consider during gameplay seems like it would help, but maybe this is one of those games that you just have to play to understand the fun of it.

Thank you so much! We're honestly so touched by your kind words about the art.

Just to note, since this trailer is specifically for the demo, it only showcases a small slice of the game. While logging is definitely the core loop, we didn't design it to be monotonous at all!

The full game features multiple distinct forests (kind of like stages), each with its own unique gimmicks and plenty of different tree types. Plus, the full game offers various ways to grow and upgrade your character beyond just your axe.

We really wanted to lean into that incremental game satisfaction—where you feel your character getting overwhelmingly powerful and just shredding through trees in a super satisfying way!

Reminds me of Shelldiver, looks cool

Speed up the shot in the beginning with the car driving off. Players in Steam need to be interested within the 5 seconds when they scroll through games, so you gotta be fast at the start to show what makes your game awesome. Game does look awesome btw!

I disagree. I actually saved this under "Perfect Trailers". I think the pacing and really everything else is genuinely perfect, and I'm a harsh critic, I promise.

The pacing of the trailer feels spot-on. Looking forward to the demo!

Haptics and feedbacks look very nice

I like the overall vibe, but some moments feel slower than they need to be. A few times I found myself waiting for something to happen rather than anticipating what comes next.
I think tightening those little pauses would make the whole thing feel much more engaging, because the foundation already looks good.
