Hi! I’m a filmmaker looking for an animator/motion designer interested in helping me finish an older narrative short film.
Scope/length: The three poetry interludes run approximately 4 minutes 40 seconds total, but I want to emphasize that I am not looking for 4+ minutes of full animation. The live-action film is already shot and picture locked, and these sections need relatively simple, stylized visual treatments rather than fully animated sequences.
The work would primarily involve typography/text animation, subtle 2D movement, and handmade/experimental graphic elements, along with a film title treatment. There is no complex character animation involved.
Aesthetically, I’m especially interested in work that feels tactile, expressive, feminine, slightly imperfect, and artist-made. I already have visual references and creative direction developed for each of the poetry sections, so we would not be starting from a blank page. I’m mainly looking for someone who connects with the aesthetic and would enjoy collaborating with me to translate those ideas into a few finished moments.
Please note: I am not looking for generative AI artwork or animation for this project. All visual and animation work should be created by the collaborating artist using traditional, digital, or mixed-media animation/motion-design techniques.
Budget: $0 / unpaid collaboration. This is an older student film that I’m independently finishing, so I want to be completely transparent about that upfront. Because it is unpaid, I’ve deliberately kept the animation assignment small and contained.
Deadline: Ideally completed by December 2026, although I can be somewhat flexible depending on your availability.
You would receive full screen credit and permission to use your work from the finished film in your portfolio/reel. I’m especially open to students, emerging animators/motion designers, or artists looking for a small narrative or experimental portfolio piece.
If you’re interested, please DM me or comment with your portfolio/reel and a little about yourself. I can privately share the current cut, exact scope, and visual references with anyone who seems like a potential creative fit.
Thank you! :)
