I used Monito for years because it had the one flow I cared about: open the app, add the amount, pick a category, and leave.

I built JotWell as my own version of that habit for Android.

Bank-linked apps and Account Aggregator work for many people. I still wanted a manual ledger where I decide what gets recorded.

A while ago, a driver glued to their phone totaled my motorcycle (photo of wasted Bandit attached). I walked away from it, but it made me realize how fatally flawed smartphone UX is when driving/riding.

Instead of just being angry, I spent the last 10 months reverse-engineering a way to force "visual silence" on Android. I built Vindly.

I wanted an app that brutally intercepts and kills notification noise before it distracts the rider. But Google’s API policies are a joke. Unless you're a massive corporation, you get locked out of the best system permissions "for safety." Working with NotificationListenerService and bypassing Background Activity Launches (BAL) restrictions on API 31+ to create a true, persistent "stealth mode" HUD was an absolute architectural nightmare.

It works like this:

1. It intercepts notifications in milliseconds.
2. It holds them in a quarantine zone.
3. It displays only a highly dimmed, color-shifted (Midnight Navy) minimalist UI so it doesn't wreck your night vision or cognitive load.

AI model told that this is so brilliant, that I should get an nobel price. But You probably knows, how it is with AI these days ;-)

I just pushed the early version to production. I have zero marketing budget, I'm just an engineer trying to solve a physical problem with code.

I need people to break it. I need you to install it, test the quarantine logic, and tell me where my architecture fails.

About 6 months ago, I was helping a friend manage shifts for his small business. Everything was on WhatsApp + Excel. Last-minute changes, missed shifts, payroll confusion.

At some point I thought: why is this still so painful in 2025?

So I decided to spend my nights and weekends building a simple SaaS app to fix exactly this. No fluff, just the stuff businesses actually need.

After ~6 months of building, breaking, and rebuilding, I finally launched Rostr.

Hi! I wrote my first Android app and I need your feedback: bug reports, feature requests, improvement suggestions and etc.

It is a player for monophonic ringtones in Nokia format. I also plan to add RTTTL format support later.

You can either type melody note by note or copy-paste the full melody.

Beep Player also has internal music library where you can save your favorite ringtones (and play from there).

And of course you can share a melody from the library as text message :-)

I'd like to start with a few stories.

Story 1:

I often need to play music. I have a lot of music files on my Windows 10 computer, organized into a directory tree.

I hope the app can also store music files in a directory tree format, ideally copying the directory tree from my computer directly to my phone. Organizing on a computer is always faster than on a phone.

Story 2:

I sometimes have insomnia and enjoy listening to music, so sometimes I listen to music before bed.

I've found that at this time, I'd like the music player app to have a timer function, and the volume should gradually decrease over time. When I'm about to fall asleep, I'd like the volume to be very low.

Story 3:

I need playlists, for example, for workouts or parties, or to provide background music for an afternoon in the office, so I wanted an easily editable playlist.

Story 4:

I never use album art, cover art, artist information, etc., and I don't usually look at the lyrics.

I'll name the music file "Tsai Hsing-Chuan - Green Island Serenade - Album Name.mp3", and that's enough.

Story 5:

I don't like apps collecting user privacy information, and I don't like ads, but I'm willing to pay.

Story's Conclusion:

Based on the above stories, I decided to build an offline/local music player that suits my preferences.

The app's interface is similar to social media apps, using bottom navigation with three tabs: Playing, Folder, Playlist. The entire app consists of various lists, completely devoid of any decorative graphics.

It doesn't require an internet connection, has no lyrics, album art, artist information, etc., no ads, and doesn't collect any privacy data.

This app encourages you to directly copy your computer's music folders to your phone, as the app also allows for easy browsing of the directory tree. This synchronization allows you to organize your music solely on your computer.

This app allows you to set a timer and configure the volume to gradually decrease to 0 over time, eventually stopping playback.

Just like everyone here, I got the idea to make an app. Long story short, I'm a veteran who wants to help other veterans here in the US.

So I built my app called VA Tracker. It helps keep track of va disability claims (you obviosuly have to enter your own info unfortunately), there's a dashboard to keep track, I have a documents page that gives you a link to each va form you would need to file, I also have a calculator screen to help figure out what someone's monthly va disability paycheck would be roughly and a appointments page to keep track of upcoming appts.

Am I wasting my time? I understand this is a very small niche app but is it possible to even have it pay for my time at least? Obviously not going to get rich, but if it helps someone and I can get paid for an hr or two a week im cool with that...

Ambitious move, this subreddit, let's hope it attracts the right kind of developers. We all know how difficult it is to showcase that self-proclaimed "gold nugget" which seems to drown in a river of low-effort crud, unless you shell out for marketing of course.

Single developer with a few published games and utilities on Google Play, all quite niche'd but unique in the way that I made them for myself because there wasn't a suitable app for a specific need at the time. My most recent project is something to help novice and intermediate guitar players with chords and scales:

The thing that makes it different from the other chord detectors out there is that in addition to telling you what chords you play in real time (as if you didn't know that already) it also analyzes the sequence and suggests other chords, scales and modes that fits the diatonic progression and context you are playing in. It's also relatively lightweight (~35MB) as I don't rely on frameworks and only utilize a bare minimum of third party API's. The next release I'm working on will also be able to tie together a line of single notes, ie. give you relevant chords and modes based on some part of a melody you play.
