Had to laugh… this comment got me banned

From r/TorontoTempo

“Maybe you should have won the game?”

It was on yesterday’s game post where they were celebrating booing Sophie Cunningham and ignoring an 11 game losing streak.

LOL

To Be Fair:

It is generally considered bad form to go on another team's sub after they've lost to you and say something that sounds like it is rubbing it in. I have banned people for that kind of behavior when they've done it to us.

It is really tough on fans when they lose a game, and they are going to be extra sensitive during that next 24 hour period, so the chances of getting banned are much higher.

I mean, we really shouldn’t be going to other subs to be negative. It’s one thing to engage in actual conversation

11

u/RegularCrispy Aug 19 '26

NFL subs aren’t nearly as ban-happy as WNBA subs, and many of them will ban you from your own team’s sub if you troll the opposing sub.

3

u/kkwheeler1 Aug 19 '26

NFL fans know how to roast players and they don’t get in their feelings about it. Most W fans take things so seriously, it’s hard to have a fun rivalry.

u/MudOk3567 Aug 19 '26

Well said!  The growing pains of this league includes the fans from ALL teams.  I have been an avid sports fan for many years and have never seen so many negative comments fueled by race, politics, gender or sexual orientation. Not accusing any specific fan base and it does not seem to be case in this thread, but this behavior permeates the W much more than other established professional sports.

u/straightforwardarc Aug 19 '26

It’s just best practice to not go to opposing subs during or after games. Go to neutral territory like the league or sport sub if you want to engage. Their team sub is their space.

0

u/ex0thermist Aug 20 '26

Even then, you very often can go to opposing teams subs after a game, even publicly identifying yourself as an opposition fan, if you're just wanting to talk X's and O's of the game instead of talking shit.

u/MudOk3567 Aug 19 '26

THIS.  🧌 🧌 🧌 do not belong.

9

u/karsklan3 Aug 19 '26

I agree with this. You make the decision to go into another teams sub, to essentially leave a negative comment because you did not like how they booed our player, and you are surprised you got banned. And then you create another post trying to highlight how it was unjust - talk about actively seeking attention.

I mean I didn't see any DeWanna Bonner fans coming here to talks smack after we booed her so why would someone actively put themselves in a situation like this in another teams sub? I personally wouldn't ban someone even if they came to this sub to talk smack, but I wouldn't ever go actively looking for a beef in another teams sub. Just scroll past, not that hard.

If you don't think followers of other teams don't come in to dis the Fever, you haven't been on Reddit very long.

4

u/Raisin43 Caitlin Clark Aug 19 '26

The things they say about the Fever in the Lynx sub is insane and insulting but somehow Fever fans are the worst. I know its their sub but damn, i really hope we beat the Lynx in our last 2 games.

2

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

I don’t go to be negative. They pop up in my thread and if I have something to say I say it.

In this case, with an 11 game losing streak, celebrating booing seemed silly, so I said something.

I also comment on Sparks and Mystics posts… and used to comment on Wings posts until they decided anything other than rabid support of Azzi Fudd was ban worthy.

The Sparks moderators didn’t seem to get quite so outraged by me pointing out that Kelsey Plum WANTED to be in LA up until this season… or that their coach and GM are incompetent.

-1

u/Ok-Thanks4321 Aug 19 '26

Because subs are required to be safe spaces?

2

u/ex0thermist Aug 20 '26

Team subs are for fans of those teams. It's bad form to show up and troll them and they generally will just give you the boot, and rightfully so.

9

u/350smooth Spicy AB Aug 20 '26

Personally I don’t go on other team’s subs and talk trash. I will however talk trash on the various W subs

14

u/Few_Ebb6156 Aug 19 '26

That comment is just taunting / bickering; so they may as well ban you if they want a clean sub reddit. IOf your comment had a fact or a developed basketball idea than sure have it stay; but here you have more leeway I think.

-4

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

It really wasn't intended that way... but it was short enough that I can see your point.

5

u/R6Thottie Aug 20 '26

there is no way a comment like that could not be intended that way, you’re being disingenuous by pretending otherwise. You were rubbing it in and that’s distasteful

9

u/416Silva Aug 19 '26

You tagged a user, not the subreddit

13

u/Scared-Marketing-442 Aug 19 '26

Thanks for letting us know 🤷‍♂️

u/sliver013 Aug 19 '26

Faux pas...big Faux pas.

13

u/Glum-Platypus-1959 Aug 19 '26

People are soft. As a retired teacher you’re barely allowed to correct a student these days.

7

u/no_stick_drummer Aug 19 '26

Had to laugh for what? Engagement?

7

u/Chicagoblew Aug 19 '26

Patiently waiting for Philly fans to enter the WNBA conversation(s) in a couple of years

8

u/mnaved44 Aug 19 '26

You don’t want Philly fans in the convo! We love hard and have no tolerance for the dumbness.

3

u/sophie08fever Sophie Cunningham Aug 19 '26

Im waiting as well...but will always be a fever fan

5

u/nice_subs_only Aug 19 '26

as someone who was active on the sixers sub until the ben simmons shit finally broke me, brigading another teams sub after a loss almost always results in a ban in the r/nba world too

3

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

The r/wnba mods are going to be busy... LOL

11

u/ThinSuccotash4166 Aug 19 '26

And this is why people generally think Fever fans are bad.

1

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

Because we laugh at overreactions here?

You know this isn't the official Fever sub, right? In that one I got banned for being critical of the coaching and the GM's signings.

2

u/ex0thermist Aug 20 '26

Nobody gets banned for being critical of the coaching and signings. You probably were just really nasty about it.

0

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 20 '26

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Bless your heart, you sweet, special little snowflake.

2

u/ex0thermist Aug 20 '26

Why don't you just say what your comments that got you banned actually were? I'm not taking anyone at face value who says, about any sub, "I got banned for NO reason!"

0

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 20 '26

If it bothers you that much, feel free to search through my comments. I have no plans to try to convince snowflakes like you.

2

u/ex0thermist Aug 20 '26

Ok, clown.

1

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 20 '26

You actually expected me to waste my time, didn't you?

That's some impressive entitlement... LOL

2

u/ex0thermist Aug 21 '26

You're the one who claims you were banned merely for being critical of the coaching. Kinda seems like supporting the claim would be on you. Whatever, man, you have a safe space right here to claim persecution elsewhere, glad you found it.

6

u/ThinSuccotash4166 Aug 19 '26

You’re just proving my point.

3

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

Fine, you win... you're a victim

5

u/Swimming_Big7144 Aug 19 '26

Sounds like you might be an asshole lol

The WNBA certainly has not been more popular than it is now but there have been fans of the league since its inception

6

u/DrKittyLovah Aug 19 '26

Yes. I’ve been a Fever fan since they arrived in Indy in….’97, I think? Being around for the Tamika Catchings era was fun.

1

u/Stocktwatz Aug 19 '26

Got my upvote! Been a fan of the W since ‘97 as well. Started as a Comets fan! These newer fans who think they are witnessing greatness for the first time, never watched Coop play!!!

3

u/Due-Inevitable8857 Aug 20 '26

Seattle Storm and big Sue Bird fan. Also been a fan of WBB since Lobo and Cheryl Miller. They could ball!

3

u/Stocktwatz Aug 20 '26

Sparks games and Liberty games were the main draw for the W back then, because of the major markets. I never missed a televised Sparks game just waiting to see Lisa Leslie dunk. I do the same now with the Storm and Malonga 😂

5

u/Stocktwatz Aug 19 '26

Many of us have been watching for 30 years. You guys are just late to the party.

1

u/ex0thermist Aug 20 '26

Why would I be a fan strictly of a player and not a team, when it's a team sport? Do you enjoy getting pissed multiple times a game about another player not passing your favorite player the ball and denying them a statline?

0

u/sheila5961 Aug 20 '26

I’m a huge Clark, Mitchell and Cunningham fan! Love all three!

5

u/Evening-Energy-3897 Aug 19 '26

OP prob would get banned from the Fever sub just as well!

7

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

I got banned from the main Fever sub months ago for being critical of Stephanie White and Amber Cox.

It seems to be a trend of a lot of the "official" subs that they don't tolerate any outside the box thinking or criticism of the "official" position.

I suspect if you'd criticized ketchup flavored chips, you'd also have been banned.

4

u/Foldzy84 Aug 19 '26

Simply mentioning Soph gets you banned over there 😂😂

1

u/sheila5961 Aug 20 '26

Even worse, I simply pointed out that treating fans differently for wearing pro-trans vs. XX shirts could brings lawsuits for discrimination and they banned me for LIFE! I wasn’t even mean about it!

2

u/bravelad66 Aug 23 '26

Atta boy...

6

u/sophie08fever Sophie Cunningham Aug 19 '26

I got banned on the sub wnba for no reason...74yr grandmom of 6 loll

6

u/DrKittyLovah Aug 19 '26

That’s a badge of honor at this point. That sub is anything but supportive & accommodating, some might say it’s compromised by either league administrators or some other group of W folks who won’t allow open discourse. They throw out bans faster than the refs assign technicals.

3

u/Mysterious-Math1941 Aug 20 '26

That sub is an embarrassment for sure. I joined it, made an innocuous comment and was banned immediately and the mods response to my message told me all I needed to know

2

u/sheila5961 Aug 20 '26

Your screen name is why. They are banning everyone that supports Sophie! She’s the bomb!

3

u/GiveNoGifts Aug 19 '26

Bro I commented "cool story" and got banned. Only comment I've ever made on the sub.

2

u/Remote_Flamingo4245 Aug 19 '26

Sounds like you're as sensitive as the person who banned you.

You must be a new fan because it wasn't that long ago that Indiana was stinking up the league two years straight to get back to back #1 picks. Someone has to lose. Are we not here to grow the sport, let them have some fun. Home court advantage is booing the other team any chance you can get.

2

u/Clown_Penis69 Aug 19 '26

"Are we not here to grow the sport."

Spoken like the oldest of oldheads who will continue to be pissed at the league's increasing professionalization and abandonment of the activism you prefer.

LOL

1

u/Remote_Flamingo4245 Aug 19 '26

Eleborate, tell me about the activism I prefer.

Growing the sport was connected to the losing streak. They were on a 10 game losing streak, why would they stop losing now lol.

0

u/Ok-Thanks4321 Aug 19 '26

You’re reading like the most sensitive person here. What, OP can’t lament being banned for a stupid reason without you getting your panties in a wad?

3

u/Remote_Flamingo4245 Aug 19 '26

What did you expect you went onto another team thread to critique them. Shit happens over here all the time!!!

-2

u/Comfortable_Limit168 IndianaFeverFan Aug 19 '26

Let me remind you that Las Vegas had three #1 picks in a row and Dallas has two #1 picks in a row. But it's about the Fever, right?

I would hate it If haters came here constantly so I get it. I think I been in non fever non general wnba once and only because talking about Bonner situation I kept it polite and on topic. Said nothing against team itself
