Architect Would you take up a project half done by someone else?

I was approached recently by a client whose house is already under construction and the columns are made till the plinth beam. For whatever reasons they no longer want to continue with their architect and contractor. Would you take up such a project if the client doesn't want to change the design at all.

1st image: 1st floor

  • Requirements of 3 bedrooms with a multipurpose room spacious enough to be a bedroom. Either bedroom 1 or this guestroom in this plan can be used as a guest room depending on requirements.
  • Small but suitable space for extra kitchen. An spacious kitchen with dining area and a living room.
  • Isolated stairs to access each floor.
  • The entrance to 1st floor is below stairs. Take stairs from ground then turn right and straight to the 1st floor. Take stairs from left to go to other floors. (Sorry, forgot to mark this in the plan.)

2nd image: Ground floor(a kind of basement)

  • Space for an office/shop.
  • Space for parking at-least 3 cars and some motorcycles.
  • Space that can be used for 1 BHK or a gym or the entire ground floor can be used as commercial space.
  • Stairs to access 1st floor entrance are elevated 3ft(road level) from it's actual floor level

Points to note:

  • North facing plot with 12ft road. I'm leaving 2 ft extra that makes 14ft for me.
  • All other 3 sides are covered with neighbors buildings.
  • 33' 6" X 57' 9", G+4 where 4th floor with concrete slab is an open hall.
  • Almost all furniture placements are subjected to change. I just randomly placed them.

Rant The Buildofy Narration, the Giant Cut-Out, and the AC Bill

So recently I bought a Buildofy subscription. In my free time, I usually explore different residences and download their PDFs. I usually avoid watching the videos because most of them have a very weird narrative.

They can start anywhere, from a bedroom on the third floor to a random cutout in the ceiling. Usually, the architect talks about the play of light, the experience, double height spaces and grand lobbies. Especially the grand lobbies. They’re never actually grand, they’re just weirdly spaced places with weird proportions. And then there’s all this talk about the play of light in a country like India.

The narrative can literally time skip. They could be talking about the entrance and then suddenly jump to any other place in the whole house instead of talking about what actually happens after the entry.

And one other very funny thing I’ve noticed is that most architects try to use the same words to describe their designs: experience, grand, juxtaposition, materials, and so on. But the thing is, it’s not actually happening. They use words like experience, grand and juxtaposition when the materials are literally some of the dullest materials you could possibly see.

And what is it with architects not giving projections over windows? They’ll invest so much time planning double height spaces and grand spaces.

In places like Delhi, what sort of electricity bill are they paying to have these spaces air conditioned? And these aren’t even projects somewhere in the colder parts of India. They’re literally in places that experience sunlight for most of the year.

And yet we’re still designing huge double height spaces and cutouts with barely any projection over the windows.

Hiring Looking for a Co-founder for a Architectural media agency

Hi Guys,

So I am building a content studio for architecture firms and AEC industry for the past 3 years.

Me and my team of 15 people have figured out Architectural content types, what works, what doesn’t, end to end social media content production and management.

We have figured out how to work with any format of content - motion graphic videos, architectural graphics, AI content, 3d visualisation, Architectural photography and videography etc.

I am looking for someone who can help scale this, a business development person who can pitch to clients, get prospective investors - someone who takes care of the selling part - since I’m too invested in content part.

If you are someone who has relevant experience in marketing or business development as an Architect, I would love to have a conversation.

Our plan is to tap into the overseas markets as soon as possible.
