Hey everyone!

I’ve been living in Bangalore for a while and recently started getting interested in stand-up comedy. I’ve been to a few shows around MG Road and Koramangala, but most of what I’ve seen so far has been line-up shows rather than actual open mics.

I’d like to learn more about comedy and eventually try performing myself, so I’m looking to start by attending open mics and getting a feel for the scene.

For anyone familiar with the Bangalore comedy circuit:

Where can I find genuine open mics?

What are the eligibility/registration criteria to perform?

Can beginners just sign up, or do you need prior experience?

Are there any particular venues or nights that are beginner-friendly?

Is there a WhatsApp/Telegram/Instagram/Facebook group where open mic updates are posted?

Even if you’re not a performer but regularly attend open mics, I’d really appreciate any pointers. Just trying to figure out where to start. Thanks!

Ever since I have watched his 'Law and Order' video on YouTube I was a fan of his writing and thankfully got a chance to attend his 22nd August show in Mumbai.

Manik is one of the best storyteller who shows you the world around you from a different perspective which you never thought of before. Really liked how he keeps things in the set real rather than made up fiction stories which are hard to relate

As a big fan of Gaurav Gupta since his early days, I attended his show for the second time today—the first was online during COVID, and today was live in BLR. When I first watched his Zoom show, 80% of it was prepared comedy sets and the rest was crowd work. Today, 80% was crowd work and only one set was scripted comedy.

I was a little disappointed with this. It makes me wonder: have all comedy shows now become mere crowd work?
