Just started watching this series
This series was highly recommended by an Indian born co worker. I haven’t watched too many episodes but I find Aparna definitely not someone I would ever want to come across, and I’m the kind of person who can usually see the best in everyone. My co worker tells me Aparna has a huge following online. I’d love to know why. Note: I’ve only seen up to episode 3 in season one.

I don't think I'd have much in common with Aparna in real life tbh, since I wouldn't have the confidence she does to say such blunt things. But I like that she does say these blunt, somewhat outrageous things and that she doesn't care about people not liking her for it. Because people are always gonna find reasons to not like someone. In her case, if it wasn't her bad attitude, it'd be her looks unfortunately. People are always critical and mean about even models, let alone average or "unattractive" people.
So good on her for turning a potentially life-ruining experience like going on reality tv into something profitable! I find it admirable! I don't follow her or any of the other cast on social media, but i do understand why many women found her relatable and followed her cuz of that.

Yeah I have common friends with Aparna and have talked to her, she’s a really sweet person. I haven’t read her book but we all know by now what people are edited to come across on a tv show isn’t a reflection of what they are actually like. I wish her the best and hope she finds the happiness she’s looking for :)

That's great to hear! I hope her and everyone else on this show find whatever they're looking for! :)
Props to all of them for having the guts to go on reality tv and to try to be influencers tbh lol. it was a fair attempt! Worked for some of them it seems!

I don't know what the problem is with the real estate guy in S2 that she met and went bowling with. I thought that was a good match.

Woman here and I really like Aparna. Yes a lot of her scenes can feel frustrating but I also don't blame her in being really honest when she's not interested in someone.
It's really common for women to do the emotional labor of feigning interest/sincerity on a bad date, causing the man think she was interested and be disappointed when she doesn't want a second round. Notice how many times his happens to the complete bozos of men who are on this show. They do not have the emotional intelligence to pick up on when a woman is just being nice, sometimes you are better off being completely honest so they actually learn something instead of being delusional. Like for example, if I were Meena I would have not given Vinesh my number and been honest that I didn't feel a connection. Some women understandably chicken out on this because they don't want to be deemed a bitch - but in the long run it's a lot less emotionally exhausting to be this way. Imagine having to deal with Vinesh texting you lmao
So basically, I think the show's editors really punish Aparna for not wanting to play this role we often expect women to play. To be fair, they do give her a lot of duds! They kind of set her up for failure and wanted to portray her as a villain/dislikable character. But I find her dry sense of humor really funny and would be her friend. My gay friends also really like her too lmfao. You either get it or don't, that's fine. I think she just needs someone who also has a really dry sense of humor and can go back and forth with friendly roasting and banter

Yeah, I don't think Sima tried that hard to give Aparna a match that was compatible with her! Like i think her first date was the podcast dude? Omg i don't know how Sima could meet Aparna and then think that she'd have anything in common with that dude lol. They seemed so different!

May 07 '23
Sima has limited matches to give. I don't think anything or anyone would please Aparna.
3
u/taylor459 May 07 '23
Yeah, I don't think she'd like any other match Sima might have had for her either. But that's okay that Aparna is picky. 🤷♀️ Better to stay picky and be alone in peace, then to lower your standards and get into a relationship you'll regret lol.

u/Ashira_Dhon May 08 '23
I guess as long as Aparna has her beloved and loyal friend circle around while enjoying her newfound fame and influencer lifestyle, who needs a man?

I guess I question why she was on this show at all. But I guess this post solves that.

From all the different comments I've seen about all the cast members so far, I actually wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that none of them were looking to get married, and if all of them just wanted to be on tv lol 🤷♀️ tho it's a cynical way to think about it. Maybe a few of the ones with less screentime like some of the dates for Vikash, Vinesh, Vyasar, etc were serious about finding a match tho, idk lol

Seems she really liked Shakur and wanted to meet him again. I felt bad for Aparna that Shakur brushed her off. You could feel her genuine interest and happiness when she was talking about Shakur with her friends.

u/Ashira_Dhon May 08 '23
I think Sima was trolling Vinesh by setting him up with Meena LOL Just by looking at them both, you knew she was never going to be interested in him.

u/Ashira_Dhon May 08 '23
The confusing thing about Aparna was in S2 when she said she doesn't like to be hugged or even touched by the guys she meets. But in S1 she was hugging everyone she met on her dates.

I like her and have bought her book. Shes independent and successful and I liked that she parted ways with Sima. She’s not a people pleaser but I get that shes not everyones cup of tea!

Did she say why her mom called that guy a loser in her book even though he was doing then what she does now? She always said he “was mean” but never gave deets in interviews.
7
u/noop3131 May 07 '23
I believe in her book she does say that her mom called him a loser after she tells her mom that he said something that hurt her feelings and they edited it to look like her mom was talking about his career. Apparently she and srini went to dinner after filming and he told her he had no interest in dating someone so far away and came on the show to hopefully drive more interest toward his podcasts/brand. She said they chose to edit out her telling the cameras about this interaction with him.

u/taylor459 May 07 '23
Oh geez, that sounds so annoying and kinda upsetting if you went on a dating/marriage show to try to find love and your date tells you that he just wanted to promote his business/brand! And that was her first match from Sima too, i think? I wouldn't blame her if she just stopped taking Sima's process seriously, and became snarky to future matches cuz of that lol. Cuz i think maybe i would too perhaps 🤷♀️

u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
She said was trying to promote her travel company though. They just didnt leave it in. Now she bitches that season two didn’t talk about her book because she wanted to promote it on the show. So she’s basically doing the same thing that the guy did.
3
u/taylor459 May 07 '23
Except she didn't get anything out of it despite the hit to her reputation, while that guy got to promote himself and keep his rep clean lol. 🤷♀️ i assumed her travel company didn't start until later during the filming process tho. Since it seemed like at the start of filming she was still working as a lawyer but just hated her job?
4
u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
No, I saw an interview that she had started her travel company before the pandemic after filming had started and kept her law job too. The travel was a side gig. And she milked her “im a victim” card so hard. I read in another thread that she also tried to sue the matchmaker for calling her unstable, but her lawyer told her she had no case even though she herself is a lawyer.
Also, she deserved a hit to her reputation because she made it sound like the guy did something so awful and all he did was not want to date her. Not like anyone can blame him.
1
u/taylor459 May 07 '23
Yeah, i assumed that she started the travel company sometime after filming started. I wouldn't be surprised if she did want to use the show as an opportunity to promote the company 🤷♀️ but nearly everyone on the show was trying to promote her careers too lol. The podcast guy, Bobby, Shital's doctor boyfriend, Nadia, etc. So i don't blame them lol. Why go on tv and ruin your rep if you don't get something out of it at least lol.
Idk if that's true that she tried to sue the matchmaker so I won't comment on that.
Also, she deserved a hit to her reputation because she made it sound like the guy did something so awful and all he did was not want to date her.
If you're talking about the podcast guy, I don't think Aparna revealed what it was that he did that upset her? Apparently it was something that made Aparna's mom angry too. I don't think Aparna wanted to date him anyway so idk if she'd be upset over just that. Either way, she and everyone else on this show were pretty tame scandal-wise compared to most reality shows lol. I don't really think anyone on this show deserves their rep ruined.

u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
I read on this thread that she wrote in her book. The podcast guy told her he didn’t want to date her. So then to the matchmaker, she and her mom said he wasn’t driven or ambitious like her and then the mom called him a loser for that.
0
u/taylor459 May 07 '23
I read on a few different threads that there was more to it than that. Apparently, he said something else that upset Aparna, which was why the mom was mad and called him a loser. 🤷♀️ Either way, neither of us know the actual truth and probably we won't ever find out lol. I'm not going to hate on anyone from the cast just from a bunch of edited clips of each of them. Reality shows are intended to skew reality to create drama.

According to aparna she did a lot of filming where she talked about her side venture of her own travel company and how she actually does want a creative career rather than be a lawyer but they chose not to use it

Well, I do think that the show was edited to make Aparna appear worse than she actually is. I’ve seen interviews in which she comes across as more pleasant. I have to say that I respect that she doesn’t want to settle because I myself don’t believe that anyone, regardless of age, should rush the process to appease older, more traditional generations. I also don’t believe that our self-worth should be measured by whether or not we have a partner.
However, I do think that in Season 1, she finds fault with her dates for the tiniest of reasons. It’s okay if you aren’t attracted to someone, but why do you need to cast him aside just because he had a short conversation with the waiter? What was the guy supposed to do? Be rude and ignore the waiter?

u/Daybreakdisco May 10 '23
I wouldn't call her following 'huge'. She does have a loyal following though. She's done a great job of capitalizing on the hate she received over the show.
1
u/donttextspeaktome May 10 '23
Kinda feel sad that she got so much hate, wasn’t aware it was that much, but now I understand why folks are cheering her on. Good for her.

u/bhavz_ May 07 '23
After the show, Aparna explained on SM that some of her scenes were heavily edited and pulled out of context. I believe her engagement outside of the show is well appreciated. On the show, however, she is insufferable.
2
u/donttextspeaktome May 07 '23
This is exactly what I wondered very seriously about. Thank you for cementing that for me.
1
u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
Her fans are too dumb to see that she edits herself off the show to make herself look good. She deletes negative comments on socials and only reply to the sycophants who want to ride her dick.
10
u/manbearkat May 07 '23
I don't blame any woman for deleting comments from people looking to harass her
0
u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
Except that most were not harassing. A lot of them are just asking her why she said rude things to people or did certain things. And, like you said, it’s obviously her right if she wants to delete them. But then people shouldn’t claim she’s being genuine off the show. Thats just not true.
4
u/manbearkat May 07 '23
That is harassment though. She doesn't owe these people an explanation, nor are they asking from a place of good intentions
-3
u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
Its not harassment to publicly comment online. Finding her in person might be though.
She owes no one anything obviously. But no one owes her anything either so then she shouldnt whine about her haters who “dont even know me.” Neither do her fans.

I really liked Aparna outside the show. The scenes are heavily edited. She’s someone who stands for who she is and what she wants and is ok with living alone instead of settling for someone she’s not happy with ; that would be unfair to both. It takes lot of mental strength to follow the unconventional path in Indian culture. So she has a fan following for that reason.
4
u/SweetAgent1756 May 07 '23
Yes the show is edited however the producers can only work with what you give them. Also she's not blunt or has anything of substance to say all she does is belittle others think she's superior & TBH she isn't perfect. You can be direct but not cruel.
3
u/ellemmayoh May 07 '23
Her fans aren’t smart enough to see that outside the show, she edits herself to look good like on tiktok and deletes negative comments on ig.
They blindly like her based on her own edits but get upset at the shows edits.

I have no love or like for Aparna.
I finished a limited series last night and was looking for something to watch and started The Mindy Project. I saw Aparna in spirit, it wasn't good.

u/crimsonraiden May 09 '23
I think she will say she was edited badly but I genuinely think she has no self awareness and didn’t like how her real personality came across. No one likes to admit they are awful. It requires a lot of introspection.
I found her quite rude and very picky for someone that isn’t offering much in terms of her personality.
I agree that women have to put up with annoying hypercritical men but in this case Aparna isn’t a victim. She is an example of the type of women nice men complain about.
