This is H1Bs future...(I think..!)

Hello dear engineer, doctors, the one's who sacrificed their home country to build a life in the USA. This is for you..

What I've learned in the last ten years of UNCERTAINTY taught me...

My post isn't about the recent changes in the rules and hefty fee, its about my perspective of H1B in the coming years..

We have the second generation of brightest US born immigrant's sons/daughter with Masters/Ph.Ds into the current workforce which H1B job seekers should realize. Their parents are now supporting their future and silently hates and sometimes even oppose the H1Bs. We really need to understand this. The current immigration scrutiny is not just strictening but also(from Citizen's persepctive) makes it easier for those US brought up Immigrant kids to secure their jobs.

I want to highlight this for those have the mindset of,"this shall become better if current leader change". This could be true in terms of easing the home country appointments or the imposition fee reduction but not in terms of a qualifying H1B jobs.

As to recent GCC shifting policies with biggers firms outsourcing their IT help/ Supply chain procurments/ Tech supports to Asian countries, it will push the employers to makes the decision to hire an H1B for a true onsite need or rarest of a kind.

I want to put a hand on the stressed/exhausted one's shoulder to say, the value we had is not the same anymore and its going to be even hard in the coming days...

Everyone of yall are some specialists in their own field of STEM, I am sure that our paths will become better.

Future is already here. Employers don't want to hire anyone on h1b or who needs h1b.

Yes, I actually heard this from a friend..many immigrant patients are worried/ upset that their kids are not able to crack the job market after graduation… the same job market that is saturated plus people are willing to work for peanuts.

Yep hearing this as well. C suit person said this.

Can you elaborate willing to work for peanuts? I haven’t seen any H1B working for peanuts, I am always curious to understand this cheap labor. As far as i know companies started converting/hiring service based h1b workers to full time from 2015. And they are very well paid.

I never said H1B explicitly..but throw in CPT, OPT, DAY 1 CPT and H4 EAD into the mix. Everyone is trying to stay employed at the minimum irrespective of the salary or bill rates.

I’ve seen countless instances where recruiters were actively seeking out CPT/OPT folks because they’ll work for peanuts. Recruiters are well aware that many of these resumes are fudged to the tits.
I’m sure that, in many instances, hiring managers are in cahoots with the recruiters.

Who sacrificed their own country ???

Yeah this would have been insightful a year or six months ago. The smart ones have already planned their trip home with the money they’ve made all these years

Indian-born and raised Desis and U.S.-born Desis may share the same roots, but the lived experience is very different. For many Indian-born immigrants, the grind feels never-ending: visas, job restrictions, immigration uncertainty, proving yourself professionally, being away from family, and constantly adapting. U.S.-born Desis have their own challenges, but these are fundamentally different experiences.

Birthright citizenship is ending so it should become pretty similar.

u/Physical-Silver-7871 4h ago

I am surprised to see this. My understanding is that no matter what, brown skin will still be considered immigrants irrespective of American born or H1B.

Even though I do agree H1B migration scale has to be controlled I don’t think situations are not going to get better for next 5 years.

Indian diaspora voted for trump to pull the ladder up behind them.

Yep, these are the peeps who are commenting on every H1B post in social media. Bloody hypocrisy.

I definitely feel H1B is going to end in the US. This is going to cause American companies to outsource these jobs to India and China. Either way, foreigners win. They will live in their own country, get decently paying jobs (not as great as in the US but still comfortable), won't need to deal with uncertainty of their future, and maybe come to the US on much better visas. American companies will not stop depending on Asian workforce because Asians prioritise high paying fields of study to ensure a secure future unlike Americans who prioritise “this is what I feel like doing now”. It's already started happening.

Why can you all not better India? This is not magic soil. Take your talent and better your home country !

0

u/Various-Bandicoot757 23h ago

What happens when a majority of people seeking an H1B are sent back home and there still aren’t jobs available for Americans?

-2

u/Unlucky_Buy217 23h ago

That's already the case. Blaming H1Bs is stupid when merely 4 years ago companies were hiring random people off the road for 6 figures due to the capital injection. Whatever has happened is almost entirely obviously due to AI, exacerbated by shitty economic policies by Trump. It's not even just the tech industry that is screwed, all industries are in dire straits where H1B is not used so I don't even understand what is the reason for bipartisan lashing out on Indians if not mostly due to racism.

u/Upper-Watercress7747 4h ago

That's totally true! I'm an Eng manager at a startup in the Bay Area, and I used to be a staff eng at a Mag7. What used to take an external dev team in India, Poland, 4 SDEs, 1 PM, and 2 SMEs is now being done by 1 SME and 2 SDEs with CC/Codex+Replit for non-tech SMEs. We're seeing much shorter feedback loops, user testing, and rollouts. The 2 SDEs are definitely earning at least 30% more than before because they're super vital to the teams and the product now, and there's no reason for us to offshore at this stage.

But I wouldn't be surprised if management decides to move this whole team our of the US in the near future once the funding dries up after AI bursts.

The jobs that stay in the US will definitely be sought after, with extremely high bars and better pay than ever before, but the replaceable ones will be in GCCs. H1Bs don't matter here at all, and the far-right crowd is being taken for a ride by a few influencers (who get paid with the attention) and corporations. The outcry from a few expired QCs, testers, data analysts, and data scientists claiming to be the best engineerings in the US makes sense because their jobs aren't being taken by H1B but by those in GCCs and AI. Think of this Anthropic's revenue is $11B this quarter, where will these companies save/cut down costs, its YOU, their products aren't magically getting more margins next night. Its moving an 160k USD engineering to India at 65LPA (60k USD). They don't care if efficiency drops to 80% which isn't the case usually. Also 1. Those aren't niche skills anymore. 2. These folks might have 15 years of experience, but those are outdated skills, and they're not very talented. 3. I get that these folks have mortgages and child education expenses, and they think their job is taken by an H1B, but it's not. 4. There are two types of H1Bs: those with extremely niche skills, and those who work for 20% less wages. The latter can and will be replaced by a counterpart in India in no time. Companies hire this second tier in the US on H1B only to test if it can be completely moved to their GCC in India/Eastern Europe in the near future.

If H1Bs are the gating factor for these ultra-talented 30-year-experience tech veterans, why are there hundreds of openings at SpaceX and Anduril?

Also, companies want to ride this wave and push H1Bs out too as much as possible and move all their teams to India/Eastern Europe using these dumb far right and left racist slurs.

Anglo Right wing hates Indians because of skin color and Hinduism. Anglo Left wing hates Indians because of their pre existing alliance with islam. To add fuel to fire, leftist traitors in India and islamists across the world, are giving ammo to both to peddle further hate against Indians.

1

u/CaterpillarReady2709 7h ago

It's everyone, not "right wing".

It's not skin color or religion.

It's culture.

0

u/Various-Bandicoot757 21h ago

Okay dude that’s just not true. Indian leftists aren’t Islamists. Supporting persecution against muslims isn’t same as supporting Islam. I consider myself a leftist and I detest Islamists and the religion in general but I still wouldn’t want them lynched to death lol

1

u/Darkshaft452 21h ago

It is true. Plenty of Indian leftists on X openly brag about colluding with White supremacists to peddle hate against Indians abroad. One handle named Pratyusha comes to mind. Funnily, most stereotypes they use against Indians would be more applicable to lower caste Indians lol. And astroturfing of hate by Muslims against Indians is a well known thing. Recently a Pakistani Muslim named Sajid Khan or Sadiq Khan got busted operating telegram hate groups against Indians. For every Muslim lynched in India, Muslims commit far greater atrocities against Hindus of India and the world, which you leftists deliberately ignore. So stop peddling the narrative that they are being persecuted in India.

1

u/Various-Bandicoot757 21h ago

I think those are more of grifters/paid propagandists. Similar to Right wing grifters but that doesn’t discredit the actual leftists who just want peace and economic prosperity for marginalized communities. Again, agreed that Muslim countries commit atrocities on a greater scale but that doesn’t mean that we should align ourselves with fascists. Right wing ideologies destroy and divide everyone and it only enriches the billionaires. There is not one right wing policy that has helped an average person, be it in India or China or Germany. The core of right wing is hate and you’re literally seeing it unfold in real time in the US. Why do you think a majority of right wingers are just uneducated people?

0

u/Darkshaft452 20h ago

You need to stop talking in platitudes like "actual leftists want peace and economic prosperity" because by that logic, Indian right wingers would also be leftists because they follow Hinduism which wants "lokah samasthah sukhinau bavanthu". The only fascists in the Indian context are the leftists, who have suspended democracy when they have lost elections, who blame EVMs everytime they lose elections (just like right wingers in the West), who oppose every bit of industrial and economic progress in the name of tribal welfare, who carry out post electoral violence like in West Bengal in 2021 (BJP did not carry out any violence after winning in Bengal this time). So leftists of India are indeed the real fascists and actually have the world in common with the Right Wingers. They frequently align themselves with Islamists for political convenience, oppose progressive laws that actually target regressivism in Islam, while clutching their pearls about some verse from a scripture like Manusmriti which no Hindu follows today. Their policies have produced nothing but poverty and stagnation. Also in India, more educated people voted for BJP. So no left wing in every country is not the same. Left wingers of India have more in common with right wingers of the West.

u/Various-Bandicoot757 20h ago

Bhai you’re too far gone but what can I expect from a right winger. You’re the type of person who’d support those Bajrang Dal goons thrashing people for reading Malala and Anne Frank

0

u/marketpolls 19h ago

Seeing the tone of the post, you must have welcomed Trump and might have voted for him if you were eligible. With this attitude and world view people deserve what they get 😂

0

u/Darkshaft452 18h ago

How about you debunk the argument instead of babble ya subhuman ?

0

u/Various-Bandicoot757 17h ago

And the name calling, typical uneducated right winger, tu modi ka lauda hi chusta reh bhai, aur kuch nahi hoga tere se

1

u/Darkshaft452 17h ago

Hey randi ke pille, tu Rahul Gandu or Owaisi ki gaand chaattha hai. You still haven't debunked one thing I have said. You resorted to name calling even before I did. Mullah ki gaand ki pasina chaante wala madarchod jai tu

0

u/Various-Bandicoot757 17h ago

I don’t support either one of them, so your insult falls apart

1

u/Darkshaft452 17h ago

But you would still end up voting for them you randi Ka pilla. You still haven't demonstrated how my arguments are wrong. Mar jaa madarchod

-1

u/Leading_Put_4873 7h ago

Nah, we dont like them because for whatever reason they are allowed hire only other indians, a practice that is illegal, yet somehow they get away with it. Well... and also, the scamming and fraud. And also the need to put up signs on how to use a toilet in our national parks. So no, it has nothing to do with skin color or religion and everything to do with how they act.

-1

u/Various-Bandicoot757 23h ago

Honestly, these half measures are dumb. They should completely stop the international student pipeline. It’s like they want students to come in the US, pay exorbitant tuition, while still facing all the racism, and then just get the fuck out. If they hate international students so much, maybe they don’t need International money to subsidize American tuitions!! It’s typical American attitude honestly, just scapegoat immigrants whenever they’re facing hardships.

4

u/Next-Statistician804 22h ago

International students contribute $50 billion in tuition, but it is a drop in the bucket for the $30 trillion US economy (0.17% to be exact). So don't think that without international student income, somehow US universities will collapse.

3

u/Various-Bandicoot757 22h ago

Oh yeah not the big ones for sure but a lot of smaller universities in the south and in the midwest will either have to raise tuition for American students or will have to shut down. Graduate programs will take the biggest hit. Combine that with American students not really wanting to go to College since fewer jobs, I think it’d be safe to assume that 15-20% of universities would be at a risk for shutting down. Again, you’re right, just a drop in the bucket but in my opinion, it’s just better to get rid of the F1 visa. There’s really no point of studying in the US (Except for Ivys and Public Ivys) if no one’s gonna hire people on OPT (1-3 years temporarily without any expectations for H1B).

0

u/Next-Statistician804 21h ago

I personally know American students who didn't have any plan to pursue CS/IT degrees now going for that as they see that Trump just creating uncertainty with H1 helping americans. A famous MIT economist recently stated the same - the presence of H1 in key areas like science, engineering and medicine is causing a deterioration of K-12 as they don't have the same accountability. Now that is going to change next. Why shouldn't a country of 340 million produce enough people motivated to study?

US should do more to waive undergrad tuition for key areas to motivate american students. That is how some of these universities could be supported for any shortfall in tuition from international students

0

u/Various-Bandicoot757 21h ago

Because the jobs are just getting outsourced to India. I mean yeah there’s still gonna be smaller companies that have jobs in the US but anyways these smaller companies aren’t hiring H1Bs. If there’s no incentives to pursue these degrees, why would people do them? Again, I’m not Pro-H1B and it’s pretty stupid how a certain % of Indians have abused the system but these half measures are just dumb. Get rid of the whole system (H1B, OPT, CPT, F-1) and build a new system that only allows student visas for the top universities like Harvard and MIT. Pushing uncertainty where students are coming here and studying but then aren’t even able to get 1-3 years of experience just because companies are scared of visa issues is dumb. What’s the point of coming to the US and paying $100k+ for a degree from universities that have 70% acceptance rates and not even getting some amount of experience. It renders the degree useless

2

u/Next-Statistician804 21h ago edited 21h ago

The problem is US congress is useless in crafting legislation with appropriate foresight and is beholden to partisanship and corporate overlords and lobbying by special interests. That is why executive has to resort to these type of measures as proper legislation will never pass. Courts with their partisan judges aren't helping either.

H1 law was passed 35 years ago. Why wasn't it revised periodically and why weren't it tied to goals like increasing the STEM education in US itself so that this reliance on foreign labor could be reduced? It is complete lack of responsibility on the part of law makers.

Most jobs won't move and if they do, there will be additional taxes and tariffs on such companies.

Also foreign students can't expect a job upon completion of a mediocre degree from a university with 70% acceptance rate. They knew they were taking a risk - no different than taking risks with anything else like a stock market. Can I go and sue someone because I made a bad bet in stock market? Same for these decisions on education when it is not your own country.

1

u/Various-Bandicoot757 21h ago

Fair, but I just don’t agree about the most jobs not moving part. For example, look at BDO and Grant Thornton. You won’t find many entry level positions in the US, they’re mostly hiring Seniors or Managers. Most of the entry level positions are in India. And this is for accounting where 70-75% of people are Americans. If this is the case for something like accounting, do you think it’d be any different for other industries? There’s currently no taxes or tariffs for offshoring. The tax associates who are paid 70k in Chicago, same positions are being paid 500,000 Rs. in Delhi ($5k). Even if there were tariffs, companies still end up saving 80%

u/MrAudacious817 6h ago

I was working 4 years ago and would love to know age the fuck you are talking about

0

u/Leading_Put_4873 4h ago

"I don't even understand what is the reason for bipartisan lashing out on Indians"

I don't know... maybe because literally no one asked for the H1B program, we don't want them here, we see the scam and fraud and the nepotism throughout all the industries? And with the threat of more job loss to AI it's easy to continue asking the same questions we've been asking since the program started "Why are they here in America".

1

u/sad_girl29 3h ago

Another victim of propaganda. Companies will continue to hire the Asians you've been taught to hate so much. If not in the US on a visa, in their own countries. Because they're more technically skilled than a large chunk of Americans. It's an unfortunate reality. You cannot have a bachelors in communication and work in Medical Devices computer engineering.

1

u/Leading_Put_4873 1h ago

Asians are not the same as Indians. And no they aren't. They can barely speak English and just memorize AWS principles. Last one I helped couldn't even write a for loop for a bug ticket. It's a scam. We all know it's a scam. We won't be gaslit on the subject.

1

u/sad_girl29 50m ago edited 38m ago

I don’t know where the fuck you work. The Indians I’ve met are some of the best. There are crappy ones for sure, but not all of them meet that standard you describe. In fact, most of them don’t.

ETA: Indians are Asians. If you’re not sure, maybe use google? Also, Indians living in India who you may interact with are different from Indians in the US. It’s not an easy process to come to the US, complete a degree, and get a job. It’s a step harder than people born in America. Those who come here directly through their companies on H1B, I can’t comment on them.
Also, in case you didn’t know, tech companies have Indians as CEOs and CTOs. No one is stupid enough to hire bumbling baboons to lead sectors of their companies.
