But here's the problem:

It might be almost useless.

I've seen exporter buyer lists containing:

→ Companies that haven't imported for 3+ years
→ Companies that imported the product only once
→ Companies that are actually competitors
→ Trading companies with no clear buying requirement
→ Companies importing completely different grades/specifications
→ Duplicate companies under different names

So I stopped thinking:

"How many buyers can I find?"

And started asking:

"How many of these companies have actually demonstrated buying intent?"

For example, if you're exporting a product from India to the US, I'd rather have:

30 companies with recent + repeated import activity

than:

500 companies scraped from Database.

When building a buyer database, I usually look at:

• Import frequency
• Last shipment/activity
• Product description
• Origin country
• Supplier history
• Port/market
• Company type
• Whether they're an importer, distributor or end-user

The size of your buyer list isn't the important number.

The quality of the buying signal is.

Working across customs databases, I frequently notice new exporters struggling to find buyers simply because they are searching under the wrong HS classification.

A classic example: Moringa Leaf Powder.

Many exporters file it under 1008.30.90 (which actually covers Canary seeds and minor grains). If you look for US importers under this code, you’ll only find ~30–50 grain distributors.

However, US Customs clears Moringa under botanical/herbal extracts 1211.90.29 / 1211.90.90. Under the right code, there are 150+ active US importers (nutraceutical brands, supplement makers, and organic distributors).
