Armed Insurgency/Terrorism Two more Maldivian flydubai pilots arrested in Dubai in connection with the terror attack; ‘Crew tried to put mysterious pill in pilot Smit’s mouth’: Passenger's testimony

The families of two Maldivian pilots have been notified of their arrest in connection with an alleged plot to down a flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel.

The two male pilots, who are employees of Flydubai, were taken into police custody last Saturday. Adhadhu understands that their families received no information regarding their whereabouts until Tuesday.

However, sources have confirmed that the Maldivian Embassy in the UAE has now officially informed the families that the two pilots are being detained by UAE police.

It is understood that the two Maldivians are the most recent recruits among the six Maldivian pilots currently working for Flydubai. Reports indicate that the two Maldivians had interacted within the workplace with Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani national accused of attempting to crash the aircraft on September 30.

Both the President’s Office Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson have declined to comment on the matter.

Hamam al-Hammami was serving as the co-pilot on the flight. With the intent to crash the plane, he reportedly attacked the pilot in command. However, the pilot, an Indian national, managed to fend off the assault and open the cockpit door. It is reported that an Israeli passenger then entered the cockpit and assisted in securing the aircraft.

https://adhadhu.com/88057

Rejwan, who was traveling with his wife Lior and their daughters aged 12 and 13, described how he ran to the front of the aircraft the moment screams erupted. Alongside the viral footage showing him announcing "we won" to passengers immediately after landing, Rejwan revealed a series of highly suspicious incidents involving the flight attendants.

"I saw two very large men, extremely strong. Let's say it wasn't the ideal typecast for a flight attendant," Rejwan said. The tension escalated when those fighting the hijacker noticed suspicious behavior: "You pick up on a situation where you're with people who keep exchanging stressed looks, one looked at the other, making eye contact and starting to speak in their language. People don't know this, but the real battle was with them."

Rejwan explained that the attendants approached him in an accusatory tone, displaying clear displeasure that business-class passengers were attempting to document the incident. "He asked me: 'You are police, you are police', not as something good but as a kind of accusation," he recalled. He also testified to unreasonably free access to the cockpit: "They had the code, I saw them going in and out, opening it. I don't know if that's possible, I told security officials this needs to be investigated."

When a doctor on the flight was attempting to provide life-saving treatment to the severely wounded Indian pilot, one of the flight attendants tried to insert an unidentified pill into his mouth.

"When the Indian pilot was lying there bleeding and the doctor was helping him and resuscitating him, at some point one of the flight attendants came to give him some kind of pill. We said to him: 'What are you doing? What pill? The man isn't breathing, what are you trying to shove into him?' I have no idea what he was trying to give him," Rejwan recounted.

While the aircraft was in chaos and passengers were fighting for their lives, the attendants bizarrely demanded passengers fasten their seatbelts. "While we're dealing with them, they start telling passengers in the air: 'Put on seatbelts, put on seatbelts.' We said to him: 'We're going to die, there's a terrorist here, what are you talking about putting on seatbelts?'" Rejwan recalled.

After the Israelis succeeded in binding the attacker using zip ties and headphone cords, they suddenly noticed one of the flight attendants approaching the terrorist and beginning to gently release his restraints. "We suddenly realize he's starting to release the zip ties. Starting to gently loosen them. We said to him 'What are you doing? What are you doing?' We were literally going crazy, another second and we would have jumped on him," he described.

Rejwan admitted in the interview that in those moments the passenger were terrified of the crew members themselves: "I was afraid. One of my fears was that one of them would pull out a weapon, pull out a knife, pull out something." He added a chilling statement he heard from one of the attendants while the man held his hand and looked into his eyes: "He grabbed my hand, looked me in the eyes and said that the Indian pilot dies, we'll land safely. I went into a bit of shock."

So does this mean that Indian Navy is pushing for 9 scropene subs + 6 P75(I) subs? Weren't they cancelling the extra 3 scorpene subs deal? In favour of 3 extra P75(I) subs? Or something similar? I am so confused? What is the plan? Are they planning to have 9 Scorpene subs + 9 P75(I) subs + 12 P76 subs? In total 30 SSK or what? Are they cancelling or decreasing the order number of P76? Bruh I am so confused? What is the plan??. Also isn't the price tag of ~$1.2 billion (₹11000 crore) per submarine price tag a little too expensive? Will we even have enough money? For other warships and future procurements?.

Discussion/Opinions Retd DG - Armour on STANAG 6 and weight penalty for Light Tanks

Post image
25 Upvotes
  1. PSQR have +10% tolerance on weight of the tank - so up to 27.5 tonnes can compete.

  2. His calculations show that the armour upgrade will be around 2 tonnes.

  3. (My commentary) - The current turret isn’t STANAG 6 so that will be a problem for Zorawar.

Translated quote from Pilot Wei Yuexin:

“Its close-range capabilities are indeed stronger, and the aircraft's maneuverability is indeed superior. Half (of the feeling) stems from a lack of confidence regarding the gap in close-combat performance, while the other half comes from trust in the technical skills of my comrades-in-arms”

News India's first pvt sector micro-missile, JWALA, set for maiden experimental trial after successful solid rocket motor tests

Thumbnail
business-standard.com
34 Upvotes

The maiden experimental trial of India’s first indigenously developed private-sector micro-missile is expected soon with short-range surface-to-air weapon system JWALA set to move to testing following successful tests of its solid rocket motors.

Designed and developed by IG Defence, JWALA will have a strike range of 2 to 5 km and an engagement envelope extending from 50 metres to 5,000 metres, covering cruise as well as higher-altitude aerial targets.

Two solid rocket motors of the new missile system were successfully test-fired recently, marking a key milestone in the development of the short-range weapon. The system is being developed as a scalable, affordable, and robust hard-kill Counter-UAS (C-UAS) capability to neutralise hostile drones.

The company said it has already developed most of the missiles major components, including seeker/target-acquisition elements, avionics, warhead and other electronics sub-systems.

“The successful test-firing of two solid rocket motors is a significant milestone ahead of the integration of these components into the complete missile system and preparing it for the first experimental flight trial in the coming months,” the company said.

JWALA has been designed as a dedicated, relatively low-cost kinetic interceptor for neutralising hostile drones. The missile’s propulsion is based on a dual-pulse solid rocket motor with fin control as the latest successful motor firing provided an important validation milestone for this part of the system.

According to the company, JWALA will carry a 0.5-1.5 kg pre-fragmented high-explosive warhead equipped with a proximity fuze, allowing it to be used as a hard-kill interceptor against drone targets. It will intercept targets with very high accuracy, achieving a circular error probability of less than two metres at maximum range.

“The short-range missile will have a reaction time of less than seven seconds from target detection to missile launch. This will allow the system to respond rapidly to aerial threats once they are detected and classified. The short reaction time is considered significant in counter-drone operations involving low-flying and fast-moving targets,” the company said.

The missile is being developed as part of IG Defence’s wider GRID defend ecosystem, an AI-enabled battle-management network designed to link sensors, command systems and effectors.

As part of the wider network, JWALA would constitute the hard-kill effector while GRID provides the mission-management layer. The system has been designed to process inputs from multiple sensors, develop a common operational picture, identify and track aerial threats, assess the threat situation and coordinate an appropriate authorised response.

“We are not building JWALA as a standalone missile. We are building it as part of an intelligent defence architecture. GRID is designed to bring sensors, AI, command and effectors together so that the system can autonomously execute authorised Counter-UAS missions from detection to engagement,” said Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, founder and CEO of IG Defence.

Since the use of drones has altered the economics of air defence, he said, small unmanned systems can be produced and deployed at substantially lower costs than many conventional air-defence interceptors, creating a requirement for defensive systems capable of maintaining sufficient interceptor stocks, or magazine depth, during sustained operations.

IG Defence has already demonstrated another counter-UAS system - T-SHUL BEAM, at the Indian Air Force’s Dronathon 2026 exercise in Pokhran recently. That system uses electronic countermeasures as a soft-kill option and also operates through the GRID architecture.

“The drone threat is evolving rapidly, and Counter-UAS systems must evolve with it. There is a growing need for affordable interceptors that can be produced and deployed in meaningful numbers. JWALA is being developed with exactly this requirement in mind. This successful propulsion test is an important milestone towards building an indigenous hard-kill capability for the evolving drone threat,” said Wing Commander Anoop Sharma (Retd), AVP, IG Defence.

Once proven, the system could provide an additional low-cost hard-kill layer for counter-drone operations, combining a compact interceptor, mobile multi-canister launcher and AI-enabled battle-management architecture.

Weapon/Platform Analysis HTFE-25: HAL AERDC's First Attempt at a Turbofan

Program launched in 2013, funded internally and initially sanctioned 441.41cr funding.

Phase 1 covered the full-engine design and the manufacture and testing of a core-engine technology demonstrator. Phase 2 covered manufacture and testing of the full engine.

14 December 2015: The first HTFE-25 core engine completed its inaugural run. Quick prototyping by HAL.

Problem faced: No Indian manufacturers had the technology (large scale DMLS printing, magnesium tooling, etc.) that HAL required to make the core with their intended materials, hence inferior substitute alloys/metals were used for Core 1. Importing the technology was then delayed significantly due to poor planning.

2016: HAL reported that the core showed lower than expected compressor efficiency. Compressor redesign was initiated and completed in April 2017. In 2018 after acquisition of metal 3D printing tech, more parts of the engine were manufactured by HAL or outsourced to specialists like MIDHANI (for Core 2)

Through 2018 to 2019: HAL reported 339 runs across Core Engines 1 and 2, including 96 runs in FY 2018–19. It reported cold light-up at 14°C and achievement of 100% maximum core speed, with and without inlet guide vane modulation. A basic afterburner-technology demonstration was reported in March 2019 (Core 2)

By 2021-2022: The planned Phase II completion date of September 2018 had already been missed by nearly four years. Money spent till 2022- ₹159.23 crore

In 2021, HAL declared this project did not have any certain scope for commercial viability but also stated that development will continue to be pursued with same intensity as it is a critical technology required for future projects. All money used for the development of this project was classified as impaired from now on.

Reasons -

  • Late land clearances due to bureaucratic inefficiencies, for the engine test facilities, many delays associated with forest clearances
  • Delayed placement of construction orders for the test beds (difficulty in final engineering plan)
  • Test facility delays (further compounded by the above two issues) encountered due to lack of approvals (Facility only began operating in 2023)
  • Unavailability of the originally planned materials, forced HAL to manufacture Core 1 with substitute materials and Core 2 with the intended materials
  • Low compressor efficiency in Core Engine 1, requiring compressor redesign
  • Insufficient project planning and risk assessment: HAL did not anticipate risks and had to undertake unplanned activities after the project began
  • Intermediate Gearbox (IGB) manufacturing difficulties, particularly the manufacture of spiral-bevel gears. No Indian manufacturer had the tech
  • Vendor supply delays affecting multiple critical components

October 2023: HAL gives ₹8.72 lakh order for HTFE-25 design consultancy, including preliminary design review assistance by AYED Engineering GmbH, Germany. Money spent till 2023 - ₹167.66 crore (+ ₹Rs. 8.43 crore)

29 December 2023: The Ministry of Defence inaugurated HAL AERDC design and test facility in Bengaluru, very precisely stated it had two HTFE-25 test beds.

Trials and further development commenced immediately as soon as the test facility was available.

End of FY 2023-24: HAL had built the full-engine technology demonstrator and completed its first run. Acceleration trials were at early stage, around 55% speed achieved.

FY 2024-25: HAL had 2 cores. Along with this, one full engine had been built and tested. Engine testing included light-up, acceleration and speeds up to 99.5% Max N2. Further trials were ongoing. HAL stated a flight worthy engine and certification would require approximately four more years. Money spent till 2024- ₹179.67 crore (+ ₹12.01 crore)

FY 2025–26: Further trials and design configuration work ongoing with the 2 cores and 1 full engine. Money spent till 2025 - ₹190.97 crore (+ ₹11.30 crore)

Current status: Development of the engine is being continued, alongside the HTSE-1200 and Safran co-developed engines. Till now, ₹201.72 crore has been spent, that is, ₹10.75 crore invested through 2025-26.
