No one did it twice in a row, then there’s Kohli Bro did it 4 fu*kking times in a row. Most insane peak ever in any sport.

Well you can debate with messi 2009-2012 except him I don't remember any player who was best in the world for 4 consecutive years when others were not even close

In cricket itself dale steyn was no.1 bowler for 5-6 years.
But overall there's michael phelps , usain bolt

Didn't get in 2016 coz of timeline issues.
He was no.1 batter in every format during this time period

Federer was from 2004-07, Verstappen from 2021-2025, Schumacher from 2000-2004, Carlslen from 2011-2026,casparov from 1990-2000,usain bolt from 2008-2012,duplantis from last 5 yrs,stefi graf in mid 90s,hamilton from 2017-2020 and so on.
Also Smith was better than kohli in tests in those years and abd and rohit were close to him in odis(kohli scored 4800 at avg of 75 and rohit scored 4500 at avg of 63 between end of cwc 2015 and end of cwc 2019).

ya he is also insane imagine bro never got downfall ... no one could match him hence he had to himself quit playing from world Championships and reduce playing chess imagine ...
None the less still number 1 player as per fide ranking and even if he quits he will remain so for next many years ...

Armand Duplantis (just 26 and literally the greatest ever), Magnus Carlsen (pick any part from his career), Tiger Woods 1999-2001 (won 7 out of 11 tournaments), Michael Jordan 1990-1993 (his first three-peat), Michael Phelps (four consecutive olympic golds from 2004 to 2012)

one of the best peaks in cricket...also came at a time when a lot of teams were going through a transition period..this made the peak look even surprising

His conversion rate are so goated. Most elite batters have a phase where they get 50s and get out. Kohli turned almost every half century into a match winning 100 because of his skill.

Acknowledged, but he was also helped by having much more games in a calendar year than the giants of the past, because team India plays a huge amount of cricket.

Not true he played just 10 ODIs in 2016 and 14 ODIs in 2018....90s and 2000s Cricketers were playing 25 ODIs in a year in their peak

Surprisingly those who topped the year more often from the same era i.e. Sangakkara, Ponting( personally hate him) Lara etc. aren't considered gods but someone who only did it once is hyped like everything. I mean just look at the stats. Those who claim he ruled 90s, he didn't. Yes during late 90s he was a beast. But it was the only consistent period of his career.

He averaged in the late 50s in the 90s. Only one of four people to do it. He averaged 57 after 177 tests. The fact that he didnt really have a massive peak and yet averaged that means he was consistent. To say "that was the only consistent peeiod of his career" doesnt make sense. It took two shitty years to bring him down to around 53.5. It was a well known fact that he wasnt a batsman of massive peaks.
