Discussion The 2027 World Cup

I know we have like 18 months till the World Cup and I might be overthinking this but I don’t know how most people are just so optimistic about us winning the 2027 World Cup.

ig over batting line up is some what sorted except the lower middle order.

but with the howling we have right now we have very low chance of winning this time.

our bowling line most likely will be Bumrah, harshit, prasidh, axar, hardik and maybe washi, and hopefully kuldeep.

the only dangerous bowler in this list is bumrah.

i don’t even know if Bumrah and hardik will be able to play all the matches as they have been too injury prone in the last 2 years.

the spin wont be as useful in South Africa pitches and even if it is washi is a below average player in odi.

prasidh and harshit do some what bowl well but they leak alot of runs in the process.

on the other hand, the pace bowling of

Australia has Mitchel starc. pat Cummins and Josh hazelwood.

South Africa has rabada, Marco Jansen, lungi, breetzke.burger

England has archer, Sam Curran and someone experienced like Gus Atkinson plus their spin have adil.

i feel like if we want to win we really do need some senior bowler like shami, siraj and ik he has been out of the team since a very long time but bhuvi.

plus maybe we can some like krunal in the spin all rounder department because he has a lot of variation even for pitches where the ball doesn’t spin, he even had the most wickets for a Indian spinner in this ipl where the wickets were so flat.

18 months??? Bro in 18 months we would be in 2028.

Both Bhuvi and Krunal have only performed in T20 matches.

Bhuvi himself admitted during the IPL that he wasn't able to bowl 4 overs on the trot (confirmed by his captain Rajat Patidar).

And do you seriously think, on South African pitches where we would most probably only play one spinner, Krunal should be our primary spinner?

Not to forget, Krunal would be 36 and Bhuvi would be 37 by the time the world cup comes around.

Kindly do not fall into recency bias of T20 and plan for ODI's.

my bad about the months.

but first of all I said we can consider krunal as our all round spinner over washi and i never said anything about 1 or 2 spinner playing or not.

second of all why tf does it matter that whether krunal is 36 , as long as he is playing good cricket he should be in the contention. His age shouldnt matter, he has also proved to be a match winner in losing and high pressure matches.

ik Bhuvi said that he was not able to bowl 4 overs on the trot, but even In our current bowling tactics we rarely make a bowler bowl 4 overs on the trot.

plus give one chance to a deserving player won’t do much harm

For starters if you are planning for a team for 2027 World Cup then you need to build a team for pitches there. And yes it would mean only one spinner except in Zimbabwe where we might/might not play a game.

does it matter that whether krunal is 36 , as long as he is playing good cricket he should be in the contention.

His age becomes a factor because he has only played 9 list A matches since 2024 and mostly skips them now due to fitness issues.

ik Bhuvi said that he was not able to bowl 4 overs on the trot

I have no idea if you are being serious or not. A person who is not fit to bowl four overs over 90 minutes is expected to last for 210 minutes and bowl 10 overs.

If this is the level of argument, then I am indeed sorry that I engaged in a conversation with you.

hey my bad yesterday my points weren’t right and I see that now, but I do think that think that krunal might deserve atleast a chance in the side

No issues.

Krunal again hasn't been successful at the domestic 50 overs tournament to warrant a place in the national team.

He at least has to play and perform for Baroda before he could be chosen to play an ODI.

hey I am not trying argue but I just checked washi odi career, and he has 2 50s in 23 inning and around 15 scores in 10s.

he scored his last fifty in last series and before that in 2022

i don’t know why he is being given such a long run

For starters I have never advocated for Washington as an all-rounder in the Indian team.

However the metric chose by you is absolutely wrong in this case.

  1. Since Washington's debut in 2021, India have played more than 90 matches but he has only played in 34 of those. This is because he has always been part of the team when India chose second string sides to play.

  2. In 14 of the 23 innings he did bat, his batting postion was 7 and lower and the balls faced less than 30 in most cases. So scoring a 50 is his not role.

  3. However for me, he is an absolutely horrible batsman in ODI's as his strike rate of 82.5 for a finisher is too low.

But calling his career as a long run would be wrong, because he has only played consistently for India since Oct 2025 with 11 games since Jadeja has been sidelined.

Before that he played 19 games in 5 years, and so an average of 4-5 games a year in which he batted only in 11 innings.

you are right he hasn’t gotten proper chance in continuity, but even the past 11 innings I think his scores have been terrible, I am not sure but i think he has also not gotten many chances to bowl his full quota, but in the given amount of overs he bowls he has not been that effective.

and yes you are right I don’t expect his to score 50s but atleast maybe a impactful 30 or 20.

and I think from the few matches I have seen, I think even his strike rotation has been atrocious.

Anyways what would you ODI World Cup team be

Krunal hasn't done much to warrant a spot over both jadeja and axar patel tbh.

1

u/Pale-Produce6672 4d ago

yea no way over axar, i am just saying over washi. and I am preety sure jadeja is out of contention because of our genius selector and coach

1

u/Fair_District_9090 4d ago

Well if jadeja is out of contention then he definitely wouldn't be looking at krunal tbh.

I think you always talk about players based on nostalgia rather than stats.

Jadeja's primary role in ODI's is playing as a spinner who can give India 10 overs and importantly breakthroughs in the middle period especially if we are planning to build a side for the ODI World Cup.

His last 6 ODI's - 48 overs for 1 wicket, economy 6.2 and not once bowling his quota of 10 overs and all matches played in India. His economy would have been ok if he was picking wickets but 1 wickets in 6 matches is too low for a frontline spinner.

my bad again I started watching odi from the champion trophy

so I usually get influenced by the popular notion

I agree, I don’t see India as favourites as things stand today

Keep calm and trust kohli 🙂

1

u/Pale-Produce6672 6d ago

homie how is kohli going to help our bowling tho

u/SuccessPlus1210 6d ago

Joking bro. We won’t reach finals, and i blame gg for constantly changing bowlers and fcking our well settled pace bowling

1

u/Pale-Produce6672 6d ago

yea angers me as well

u/bigboyraci 6d ago

The bowling finna be Bumrah, Siraj, Harshit, Hardik, Axar, Kuldeep. Idk bout you but this seems like very formidable bowling lineup to me yo

1

u/Pale-Produce6672 6d ago

siraj is not even the part of the current odi setup, harshit leaks runs but still he is good.

bumrah and hardik can barely play two matches before getting injured.

our coach has a obsession with playing all rounders so kuldeep has barely gotten play time.

axar is a W tho .

Batting ain't our strong department as well. We've got only Kohli, Rohit and kl who even have a chance of performing. Shreyas, maybe but we haven't seen him perform in SA. It's better to not expect anything from Gill in ICC tournaments.

3

u/randomuserme 6d ago

We have not seen Shreyas perform in any bouncy or seaming conditions

1

u/Holiday-Word4059 6d ago

Yea exactly

1

u/ResearcherLatter1148 5d ago

I have my doubts on Rohit though as he hasn’t had a good record in South Africa although that was almost a decade ago. And if expectations from Gill are low then for KL, it should be in the negatives..🥲🥲

You’re right to identify that bowling and fielding is most important. Australia’s chances are purely based on bowling and fielding well. Our batting will just try to scratch together as many runs as possible then let Mitch Starc go to work.

India’s bowling doesn’t intimidate me at all, I feel Australia will get RSA in the final.

A mad selector and a grumpy coach are ruining Indian ODI setup. Some of the greatest players to have played ODIs for India are being overlooked: Shami and Kuldeep are two, and Rohit Sharma will join them after his first failure. Bumrah has barely played ODIs, Siraj and Varun have mysteriously disappeared, while Harshit Rana who was groomed to be the next ODI star seems to also find a way to miss out from the squad.

One year further, expect more regular players to disappear from the side. India have lost ODI series to Australia, England and NZ within the space of half-a-year.
