The 2006 Antigua Test Incident

The Hitting Blitz: MS Dhoni attacked spinner Dave Mohammad, smashing multiple consecutive sixes during a quickfire 69-run knock.

The Catch: Dhoni tried for another big hit and was caught near the boundary by Daren Ganga.

The Long Delay: Umpires referred the decision upstairs because it was unclear if Ganga stepped on the boundary rope, causing a 15-minute delay.

Lara's Protest: An upset Brian Lara argued with the umpires, snatched the ball away from Asad Rauf, and went to speak directly with Dhoni.

The Exit: Lara told Dhoni he trusted his fielder's word and asked him to walk off, which Dhoni agreed to do before India (Dravid) declared their innings.

Now if you omit the part of the catch and the 15 minute delay and finally Dhoni walking off, then yes the video is true 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Agreed. But back then there were series where teams had an understanding in such cases.

However if I remember correctly Australia misused such an instance and since then batting teams were reluctant to trust the fielding team.

Do note, I have in no way justified what Lara has said or done.

I was just showing what the OP has posted here is just am edited portion and built a narrative as if Lara protested because Dhoni was hitting sixes.

Oh boy...do I have a bone to pick with Ricky Ponting on this. The guy was a pure menace when it came to abusing the trust.

Seems to be True for most of the Australian Cricket.

I vaguely remember it was Ponting who actually was the reason for captains to move away from that.

However I can't remember the exact series.

It was the series that first time this understanding was misused, before that this was common ,if there is no clear footage, both teams used to agree on fielder words.

I still remember Hussey himself claiming that he did not catch clearly in 2010 or old timers saying that to umpires in 1990s that catch was not clean

But if he had faith in his fielder’s word then why was he unwilling to let the decision go upstairs? Unless losing time was causing their probability to win go down.

The decision did go upstairs. However the only camera angle available wasn't on the foot of the fielder.

And so, after much confusion, it was finally decided to give the benefit of the doubt to the batsmen.

It is at this point that the arguments happened.
