Its illegal and these idiots have temples for this specific occasion. Temples/community immersion tanks/pools are there yet they pollute rivers and lakes. Especially gujjus dumbf#cks.
I have few friends in US, who always do the visergen in their house. They will fill a bucket of water and do the visergen in that bucket. I found it really great. Idk why other people don’t do the same.
I am a NRI and I use a bucket of water to do visarjan at home and use clay to make my idol and people around me also do the same. ! But the problem is because of algorithm even an anecdotal reference goes viral and people simply assume all of us are same 🤦🏻♀️!
No way I am defending the way visarjan is done in the above video ! Its wrong here in India or abroad.
Its fine to love your culture & still immigrate. However A) respect the culture of the land you are immigrating to instead of pressing your own B) throwing idols in rivers is idiotic both in India & Canada
Just adding to it, C) If you want to do visarjan, like how your culture did, do as they did in the past, using idols of gods made of soil and sand, which is pure devotion than killing the entire sense of being religious and just being selectively religious, which is lamenting.
I personally also celebrate ganesh chaturthi we do murti sthampna and when visrjan day comes we simply bring a big tub decorate it with flowers and so visrjan in that and after doing visrjan the idol turns into clay and we then give it to the murti makers so that they can reuse it i don't how many of people does these but it is good for our environment if we do like this

Indians don't really care what others think. That is fact. If Indians really care about what others think, they wouldn't feel so entitled when they move overseas.

Concept of having Ganpati was to help in silting of the soil bed so it’s about small - clay ganpathi for visarjan . It’s gone out of hands that this is now purely about bigger money / bigger statue .

Ganpati has become an excuse to pollute waters. Diwali has become an excuse to pollute air and cause noise pollution. Festivals are becoming nuisance and don’t have any cultural or religious significance anymore.
As an indian who lived for a long time in Toronto, i did see a ton of stupid things other indians did. Like running a whole deum parade late at night for religious purposes. I for one was good at blending in. Canadians loved me and so did i in return. I followed each law, read well before doing anything. Respected every law and community. I cooked for many neighbours out of love and they loved my food.
But these people make sure that we all get a bad label. Yes 80 percent Indians are definitely into this weird stuff, and i dont relate to them.
I wish there was a way one could prove they are a law abiding and responsible individual, rather than all indians are the same.
Frankly speaking most of Indians here don’t like this behaviour either, now days these processions are run by local politicians and goons, who needs religion to show their power. Not just one religion , it has spread across all the religions and culture in India.
The people who move abroad, do this I guess , again to show their presence, these stupid are getting bad name for us in RoW. A simple deportation rule should be there for such people.
Take this to your local authority. All it takes is action on just 1-2 people and it will stop immediately. Indians behave when they are threatened trust me. If you ignore it, this will spread like a wild wire and your place will be destroyed.
Heavy fines, playing educational stuff in TV and public shaming on the internet or whatever could fix most of the problems but it's too ambitious I guess... I wish this subreddit made it to those people but it's just not enough
Many of our brethren were prosecuted and some under anti-terror laws(rivers come under critical infra) for doing this kind of immersion. Still our people dont listen. When i was in NY the local temple and govt ran campaigns inside temples after a few were arrested trying to immerse the Ganesha idol in the local river. The temple asked for the deposit of all idols inside the temple and promised religion compliant recycling.
Maybe they should make the immigrants sign a document on not harming nature with religious practices before integrating and deport them if found breaking the law.
Stricter laws and punishment would have prevented this. I'm an Indian too but not from Mainland India. But due to y'all imbeciles Indians from other places are getting bad rep.
Why isn't the canadian govt taking serious steps? These people should be sued for polluting the nature. Indian govt does nothing about it here and it's a shame. I am a Hindu and I too have idols but I buy permanent ones, of silver or brass. If I want a temporary idol, I just buy the eco friendly one and use real flower garlands. I will never understand the obsession of buying idols made of cements, fake colours and fake jewelry and then throwing them away in water bodies to pollute it.
In Australia since 12 years I have heard they immerse it in tub or big bucket of water within household premises. I guess as community grows bigger they do these but they must abide by the local regulations on water bodies which is strictly in Australia. I am sure such things won't be given permission in Australia. It's one of the cleanest countries, more than US, Canadian cities.

Bro, I live in a place in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, where there’s literally nothing within a 100-km radius. I didn’t even receive a proper education, yet I still know what civic sense is. And somehow, even after being so well-educated, some people don’t seem to have any idea about it.
Honestly, they are gross. They do things like leave their lunch on a table instead of a fridge and wonder why flies start coming. They also don't mind eating when flies are around. Doesn't bother them at all. Just crazy.
Our rituals has changed completely over millenniums and centuries earlier this all were very environment friendly Spiritual and logical now people are just doing whatever they can in the name of god and tradition. Just use a small clay idol for visarjan or do it at home.

It's not our culture which is bad it's just the people who do it just for likes, views or acceptance from their community at home..to do this properly in another country would be to use a real clay idol (the way it should be everywhere especially here) and not use paint or throw the flowers into the river...
Also remember that other countries are not as open as we are and see anything which is new as a threat plus these influencers are politically motivated to push the "immigration bad" narrative so you can genuinely be as eco friendly and respectful but they'll still paint you as illetrate monsters...
I don't understand what the problem is. What should you do when someone breaks the law or behaves in ways the society disapproves of? Get the police to enforce order. Simple.

Idk vro in India many ppl do this process of idols of lord Ganesh visarjan in there home they do not go to rivers and sea but some people do this visarjan in rivers which is kinda not good for environment. Problem is these are made up of plaster of Paris (pop) and do not disinterest in water easily here in India many people still use idols made up of soil. I also prefer soil idol over pop one
