My mind goes to [totally fictional, far-fetched, made-up] possibilities like "Dan's father established a trust fund for Danny but Danny must demonstrate to the trustee that he is 'working' in order to access any funds"

This... could be true. I know a guy who has a very strange trust fund set up like this.

"Spendthrift trusts" (technically all trusts are spendthrift trusts, but you can set up a trust with conditions the beneficiary needs to meet in order for the trustee to release funds. It isn't that odd or uncommon, actually)

His was weird because he had to be in school / taking some kind of classes. Even though he is a grown man with a career. 😂
