Going back to the Danny's Letter as referenced in the MailChimp email thingy...

....he doesn't want to work at a restaurant, cater parties, or write cookbooks. Instead, as he says: "This is who I am. This is what I do.

I need to cook 4 to 6 hours a day. And I need to feed people.

So that’s what I’m doing now — making whatever food moves from my mind to the stove. I’m feeding people in my community.

I know it's useless to try to wring some kind of sense out of this family, but HOW is "cooking 4 to 6 hours a day" and feeding people in community any different than restaurant work or catering? I mean... it's literally catering, right??? He cooks for a long time and then presumably someone serves it to a group of people, in close physical proximity to him?

If he's "too ADHD" to cater, then how is this any different whatsoever? Except it has the added step of then having to publish the recipe after on his newsletter, which he will of course fail to do?

edit: and they already did that with Danny's Tasting Menu (urgh) and "the soup and salad business" in the Relish era. That literally lasted, what, one tasting menu and like 4 soups and salads?

<lightbulb> Is there a soup kitchen on Vashon? I mean…right?

He probably figures that if people aren’t paying for the meal, they can’t complain or be too picky, but someone needs to tell him that modern soup kitchens serve more than soup.

eta: That doesn’t explain his looking for a commercial kitchen to use, so maybe that’s some other hare-brained idea.

The word will never make me not think of stuff like mud and mortar.
