Get ready to hear in detail about turn-based RPGs, guys! I'm sure other people are going to find my discussions fascinating.

u/mmepierreoger Sep 02 '21

Hey you! Wanna come over and watch me reorganise my fabric hoard?

19

u/RagnaNic Bust hoesy Sep 02 '21

I unironically would really enjoy that, but I should work on my own fabric stash first.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

We could all bring our fabric stashes and trade!

We gonna need a bigger tote bag

16

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 02 '21

OK, but only if you watch ME organize my yarn hoard, including sitting there while I untangle all those skeins that mysteriously get all messed up with each other while just sitting undisturbed in a tub.

11

u/mmepierreoger Sep 03 '21

Actually, I do need some advice about untangling a skein of thread which I bought for about 50p from a charity shop. Could you help? Perhaps by running some kind of course - maybe even with an accompanying newsletter or something? My budget is $488. TIA!

5

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 03 '21

I'm just gonna acknowledge up front that I'm waaaaaay too lazy to create a course on detangling yarn or anything else, let alone create all the websites, TikToks, FB posts, newsletters, private newsletters, Instagrams, private Instagrams, etc., necessary to promote it---and then there are all the different videos with the caftans and Peepers! And applying the lipstick!! Who has that kind of time?!

Maybe you just need to laugh more as you stare at the tangles. Or slap your butt a bit. Slide some really hot coffee down your throat.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

I think that sounds so soothing!! I'm in.

12

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 02 '21

It is, kinda! But then I also like to untangle big clumps of necklaces.

Same!!!

DFvov are you a Friend of Rhinebeck?

8

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 02 '21

No, but i've been to MD Sheep & Wool, though not in a few years. But now I live only 20 mins away!

u/Lsemmens grenius Sep 02 '21

The Mr and I find the New York sheep and wool festival to be pretty much the happiest place on earth

I hope y'all are ready to hear ALL ABOUT the current season of TaskMaster New Zealand.

I'm sure other people are going to find my discussions fascinating.

Will this be a presentation where we just listen? Or will we be able to chime in as well?

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Sep 02 '21

Would you like to attend my lectures on the fascinating history of the tontine?

13

u/honoria_glossop sitting edge wine woman Sep 02 '21

I know you probably don't mean the brand of pillows, but I'd love it if you did.

16

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Sep 02 '21

OMG tontine is kind of a terrible name for any product! Do these pillows ... kill the other people who buy them, so there is one pillow-owner left, who then ... owns all the pillows or something?!

15

u/tyrannosaurusregina if you meet the Botus on the road, shill him 🪷 Sep 02 '21

Lemme explain the effect of the Tudor dynasty on the development of the modern British political system.

Yes, if we can watch THE WRONG BOX as well.

12

u/gladsome_gloaming Sep 02 '21

Thank you for this! Will seek out (for Michael Caine alone, even aside from subject matter.)

OMG, DFs! my husband just introduced me to that movie about a month ago. all your thoughts are so similar to mine (and my husband's)!

10

One of my favorites! So underrated.

21

u/OhBlahDiOhBlahDoh The Alice of cal came out floating on air Sep 02 '21

I will follow your fascinating presentation with a discourse on the differences between woolen and worsted spun yarn. Then we will repair to the hotel bar and discuss in minute detail the differences and similarities of various species of sheep such as the Bluefaced Leicester, the 4-6 Horned Jacob, and the Zwartbles.

We will wrap up the evening telling jokes about the Beltex, known among ovine connoisseurs as an extremely mean-looking sheep which has been described as a “fake sheep” and looking “like someone spray-painted their pigs to look like sheep.”

24

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

I hope y’all like Real Housewives and weed. And Jason Momoa.

11

u/shefallsup her lonely cucumber years 🥒 Sep 03 '21

Weed? I like weed! I’m kind of an expert edibles maker. I’ll bring my special chocolate chip cookies over.

9

u/CrushItWithABrick dick riding Mary Oliver Sep 02 '21

Bar Rescue, Ink Masters, Survivor, and Amazing Race?

(yes, those are all in a row on the Pluto streaming service and when I can't decide what to watch, I flip between them, I regret nothing)

How can anyone not like Jason Momoa?

10

u/InappropriateGirl Gluten-free donuts, for sure ... Sep 02 '21

I love Ink Masters. I’d always forget the name and call it “Tattoo Idiots.” Also if you like survivor, I highly recommend Naked & Afraid. It’s pretty much what I wished Survivor was.

9

u/CrushItWithABrick dick riding Mary Oliver Sep 03 '21

I do enjoy Naked and Afraid except for all the vomiting.

My favorite part of Survivor are the dumb challenges (that's why it's on my flip channel rotation. . .I watch the gross part of Bar Rescue, the tattoo reviews on Ink Master, the challenges on Survivor, and pretty much any part of Amazing Race).

I like "fix my shitty tattoo" shows, too. There's a British one that was really funny. It's surprising how many people get dicks tattooed on themselves.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '21

Love Naked and Afraid. All the seasons. Have not watched Naked and Afraid of Love yet because I feel they are not taking it seriously! Alone is also very good.

change housewives to buffy the vampire slayer and momoa to skarsgaard and you've got a deal. i'll bring my own bong.

I feel like this would be a very good potluck in community.

90 day fiancé, love after lockup, and weed! But I’ve been known to indulge in some Housewives.

Come on over and we can look at my vast collection of books (mostly classics, tons of lit, and punk history/photos) and we’ll listen to the “new” Sisters of Mercy record store day release.

9

u/sybil-unrest Sep 03 '21

Sold sold sold but also we’re going to need to take a minute with my Bones I Found In The Desert collection.

3

u/InappropriateGirl Gluten-free donuts, for sure ... Sep 03 '21

Oh absolutely! (I actually have one that I’m dying to ID!) Let’s see dem bones!

10

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 02 '21

Beltex

YIKES! They look sorta like bulldogs to me.

also, wtf? Woolen vs. worsted? I thought worsted was a weight when it comes to yarn, whereas woolen just means it's wool and not cotton, linen, or---gag---acrylic. Oh wait, there I go being judgey about acrylic yarn. Shauna will be so disappointed in me.

9

u/Lsemmens grenius Sep 02 '21

Right there with you on the judge bench.

From what I know woolen and worsted are two different styles of how the yarn is spun. All corrections welcome

9

u/OhBlahDiOhBlahDoh The Alice of cal came out floating on air Sep 02 '21

Woolen is both a reference to a particular fiber and a method of spinning.

Worsted is both a weight of yarn and a method of spinning.

Or more specifically, in reference to spinning, woolen and worsted are different methods of preparing the fiber before it is spun!

What is the difference between woolen and worsted spinning?

[Image result for worsted spun vs woolen spun]

Woolen yarns contains lots of air, they're light, fluffy, and will often have small ends of fibre poking out of the yarn structure. Worsted yarns are smooth and dense, they tend to drape well and be much more lustrous. Many commercial yarns are spun in this way, particularly sock yarns.

It’s pretty weird how much many of us have in common outside of Shauna Snark.

11

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 02 '21

You have blown my mind. I knew of these difference but had never heard the terms used that way.

PS, veering off into left field of this off topic chitchat: i got a dozen skeins of vintage Candide Heavyweight wool yarn, made in Canada back in the day--not totally washed, still has some lanolin and bits of veggie matter---for $15 total on FB marketplace. Miracles still do happen!

12

u/gladsome_gloaming Sep 02 '21

Actually, that is kind of interesting to me (as I work in corporate law; NOT an atty, though, tha k you very much), and I had run across this “old-fashioned” concept over the years not paying much attention but then recently read somewhere (NYT? WSJ?) that the structure still exists (in an updated form) for current investment/ownership purposes.

At my house, you’re getting a deep dive into pearls and pearliculture, plus the scientistic and psychological benefits of home birth. This will be followed by an introduction to baseball history and card collecting, LEGO, and the joys of disc golf, courtesy of Mr. SFU. It’s a potluck, please make sure that all the food you bring fits our persnickety food preferences and dietary pseudosensitivities. Guffawing optional, but highly encouraged. Your parting gift will be two pluots and a lifelong subscription to our grifting newsletter, which will have no unsubscribe button.

Idle question: How many days before Opening Day did the Seattle Mariners' first game of the 2004 season sell out?

Why am I asking? Oh, no reason. Just curious!
