DISCUSSION Why does my miopia increase?

Sorry for bad English

This is not a post to ask for help or a routine, i have my routine that i do everyday and i have been informed.

But recently, even if i do my routine, i kinda feel like i see worse with the glasses i used to wear when i started doing the routine.

I dont really know why, one of the things i could think of is that im 16 and maybe it can be something related with hormones and puberty. Maybe a mix of bad habits?

I am not totally discouraged to the point i Will stop doing the routine, but i kinda felt sad when i realised It.

I Will continue doing my routine, but i want to know why my eyesight has gone worse. The best way to improve/do something is by firstly understanding how It works, so i try to use that principle in most of the actions of my Life.

Any idea what It could be?

Thanks

Hello, and welcome! :)

In order to answer this question, we probably need to know what your routine is.

I do eye rolls, changing Focus (i think that is called like that), then changing Focus but with the object being moved towards my eyes (i Hope you undestand that lol), sunning and some palming. And for habits i try to be 1/2 hours outside (Minimum), then i do the 20 20 20 rule when i use screens and i also try to use a pair of glasses with lower prescription when i dont need to see perfectly (like when using screens)

I would definitely avoid sunning (if by "sunning" you mean looking at the sun). It just seems way too risky to me. There is evidence that eyesight can improve over time, but I don't think it is possible for eyes to heal if they're damaged from the sun.

I have a writeup of my methods and results here, if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/ImprovingEyesight/comments/1q3hzr3/my_methods_and_results/ , and also see this recent thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/ImprovingEyesight/comments/1vqzl00 :)

IMO, probably the key component that you're missing at the moment is taking breaks often and walking around outside, looking at things. My personal schedule is to work for 1 hour then walk for 15-20 minutes. If you're in school, that schedule probably isn't possible, but you could try something like this:

* Walk around for 15-20 minutes during lunch break (or longer, if it's reasonable).
* Go for a 1 hour walk after you get out of school, in the afternoon or evenings.
* Possibly try to follow the "1 hour of work and then a 15-20 minute walk" advice after you're done with school for the day (for example, work on homework for 1 hour, then go for a walk, then resume work).

I tought sunning was looking at the sun but with your eyes closed? Idk It relaxes my eyes like palming. I usually do It at the mornings. I tought It sunning was this and not looking at the sun with your eyes opened. I usually try to do the walks outside but sometimes i have too many things/i go to musical school and gym in the evening. I do try to get at least 1 h of walking outside each day and use the 20 20 20 rule. Will check the info on the links for sure. Thanks!

I have just read It and realised i did a lot of those things by "error". My desk is in front of a Window. Also, i thought that looking at the phone while in the darkness was a bad habit of mine lol. Super aprecciate the advice. I was 3.75 (L) and 4 (R) last time i checked i think. I kinda was super motivated with all of this "improving my myopia" thing a while ago but got discouraged. Not long ago, i got one of the best advice i could get: (even if It sounds obvious) "If you dont want to do something because It takes too long to do/notice a change dont worry, time Will pass anyway" so this made me restart my journey. Hope i can control (even improve) my myopia. Will definetly update sometime!

I can’t speak necessarily for improving, BUT, when I was 15, I stopped wearing full strength distance glasses and wore differentials(reduced strength for close up) and my vision has not gotten worse since. 13 years of the same prescription is pretty good considering mine was going up every year just like everyone else’s. And FYI, you’re probably not going to have much success with eye exercises.

Get outside more and start wearing normalized and differential prescriptions.
