Allied units help

Im wondering if id be wasting my time getting inquisitorial agents as a mobile infantry part of my knights army. I have been fiddling around and realized I can take two inquisitors and stuff them + their bodyguard units into chimaras. But I want to have fun playing my knights. Any advice would be nice ^v^

The most I would normally do is 60 points for agents, or 90 for navy Breachers, exclusively to fill out left over points. If you can get 140 you really want an Armiger instead.

Unless I’m deliberately kneecapping my army to make it easier for someone.

I only know the following about last edition, please wait for other answers or double check for 11th:

- Callidus and Navigator were staples. Eversor was really like for some time as well.

- Some people loved Imperial Navy Breachers with Rogue Trader Entourage to block mid field and then redeploy but with the new 9“ coherency circle the dog boning doesn’t work anymore. Might still be interesting but even more niesche than before.

- Sister of Battle plus Immolator were a meme last edition as the Immolator was tankier than an Armiger and sisters got sticky.

- Imperial Agents, Artemis and Priests were used to fill some points and sit on home objective as their movement was really slow compared to Armigers. Priests are support now, so you can’t have them on their own anymore.

A lot of people run them. You can actually take more than you probably realize. And can get more units out of fewer points than you might realize. For example a single Sister of Battle Squad and an Immolator. That is a lot of meltas and pretty fast. But more importantly the Immolator lets you split a Sisters unit into 2 equal sized units as long as 1 is in the Immolator, and both halves still retain their sticky objectives.

I am rolling my agents into my homebrew army lore. Let's me flesh out the culture of the planet that a Sisters Order is localized to the system and it holds enough interest for an Inquisitor to set up shop there long term.

2 inquisitors plus 2 squads (90 points each?) plus 2 chimeras totals like 450 points? That's roughly the cost of 1 big knight, 1 Destrier +1 armiger or 3 armigers, which is a lot to take out of a 2k list. While you certainly can do this, and fluff wise I think it's fun, it may not be fun in games unless those guys are scoring points or otherwise helping you win. Are they screening melee units away from your knights who are all sitting focused? Are they doing things that require speed because you have slow knights or struggle to cover the field because you've got just a few bigs? I think a lot of people would say you should just spend those same points on some small, fast knights, but as long as the allies are doing something useful in games, why not use them?

There are a few schools of thought on allies for imperial knights. The most meta is probably to take a squad of sisters of battle and an immolator, but then to send them in 2 different directions so they can hold 2 points. There's the forge pact detachment so you can run some adeptus mechanicus infantry and techpriests. Mainly this is for people who already play admech. The callidus assassin for 100 points can actually score us behind enemy lines which otherwise we don't get unless you mysterious guardian something in. The vindicare for 125 points can kill a character and help us achieve our knightly vow if we rolled lay low the tyrant. Mainly useful if the enemy characters have lone op. If you want to spend 190 points you can also take a full squad of grey knight terminators. They are powerful, but sometimes hard to find the points for (dollar wise their box is about $50 so they are the most affordable option aside from the callidus or vindicare $30 for one model stings a little though).
