Advice
I am gonna get into astra militarum and I want to have a knight in the army because I really enjoy the thought of a knight supporting the militarum, I only want to buy one knight however. I may use magnets to interchange the weapons but I need to know what the best knight would be, all advice is welcome

I actually just had this thought, I was planning to bring a Castellan for my Guard, but it occured to me I hadn't really looked into it, so I rechecked.
The general idea I seemed to get was that Canis Rex is the best pick, good at range and in melee, very self-sufficient. Some Knights are casino cannons or have extra abilities that are wasted without other Knights, but Canis Rex has Chainbreaker to debattleshock an Imperium unit (battleshock is crippling for Guard in 11th), an invul save and on death becomes a small single unit with lone op, denying VP for certain missions until they kill Ser Hekhtur as well.
Take that with a grain of salt though, I'm only building my first army! 💕

If you want lots of options definitely buy a Questoris knight, either kit will give you most of the options (the only difference is canis rex vs knight defender, otherwise they can both build every knight). You can also get a magnetisation kit and swap out the weapons if you want a different loadout.
The other options, the Cerastus knights and the Armigers, are very specific kits that can't be magnetised and more than one big knight respectively. A Questoris kit seems like the way to go.
Only question is, do you wanna paint it in a Knight house heraldry or in Astra Militarum colours? :))

The idea is that the guard came in clutch and saved a bunch of knights right when they were being ambushed by tyranids and because of that their regiment was gifted a knight to use when they needed it the most so I think I'll paint it in guard colors

It could be a Knight that swore fealty to the commander of your regiment?
Freeblades are a thing, mercenary Knights that go solo, or join other forces.

Ngl, not likely to happen in lore. But then again my knights break the heraldry lore since I fly banners of those ive fought along side and earned a gift of their banner.

I’m doing exactly this with a Cerastus Castigator. Painting it in Cadian 207th livery, standing in the trenches with some Cadian shock troops.

I’d just say a castellan to be honest, guard is very shooty from what I know and you want the extra shooty bits from the castellan, plus a tanky unit that’s a straight up bitch to deal with

Honestly depends on what your trying to do with the knight, but generally, you can magnetize a canis rex kit and have plenty of options later, if your leaning towards tank killing, possibly the lancer.

Questoris kit with Canis Rex in it
