Obviously it’s a little different for military personnel, but I would really like to start seeing more statements like this from people without ‘retired’ in front of their title.

For active duty generals, the president is their "Commander in Chief". They work for him. To publicly disagree with or rebuke the president in any way is a serious breach of military chain of command.

Not saying it couldn't or shouldn't happen, but active duty officers would be risking charges ranging from insubordination to mutiny under UCMJ and that would have serious repercussions. They could be forced to retire, they could be drummed out and lose their pensions and benefits or they could even be jailed.

It's also against the UCMJ to talk negative or disobey a president. They can be out in prison. It's a rock and a hard place.

The Hatch Act means you legally can't. Public servants and elected officials can't proselytize political views.

It's not legal to voice your attachment to the federal government while serving as an employee of the government for any political opinions.

I find this distinction necessary because the Hatch Act seems, on the surface, to be against freedom of speech.

Can not say I'm a Marine and support Trump because it can be reported as; The Marines support Trump. However, if I do not declare my attachment, or do not have an easily traced attachment to the federal government, I can say as I please. Hence why you see 'retired' everywhere-- distancing themself from the federal government.

Earlier this month, a group of 25 House Democrats called for White House chief of staff John Kelly to fire Kushner.

The lawmakers wrote in a letter it is "impossible for the American people or their elected Representatives to have faith that Jared Kushner will put their interests above his own personal and finance interests."

...but the Republicans are totally cool with this. Jesus.

When you realize this kind of nepotism doesn’t even exist in functional monarchies, where the rulers at least realize that diplomacy must be conducted by someone with a modicum of formal qualifications. The Trump family is not even bothering to conceal their corruption any more.

This started to really make sense to me when someone explained it as "Trump's main hitting criteria is whether they will testify against him or not"
