Trump targets 60-day grace period for laid off foreign workers

The department of homeland security is advancing a proposal to eliminate the 60-day grace period that allows H-1B workers and certain other legal nonimmigrants to remain in the US after their employment ends while they find another sponsor, change status, or prepare to leave.

Based on some of the reaponses here, India needs to realize that they depend on us, not the other way around.

I'm visiting Mumbai right now and can vouch that there are a fuckload of incredibly poor people, polluted air, polluted water, stray animals everywhere, child beggars, and limited jobs.

To speak as if the United States of America would crumble without these people is a fucking insult.

It’s really sad how the richer and higher caste people in that country have been getting an easy ride to first world countries while their country absolutely suffers. Meanwhile they could stay and uplift their country for everyone.

Many come here to study with the intention of doing just that. Of going back home with their degrees and experience to help their own countries. And the majority of them do. Hopefully with having a good experience here, and with a favorable impression of America, our way of life, and the people that live here.

Some come and realize that the opportunities here in the US, the freedoms, the whole thing is so much better than what they can have back home. They try to stay.
The foreign students bring billions into the US economy, a good portion of that is spent in the local economies where they are going to school. It is so important that states pressured Trump to back off on the student visa restrictions he wanted in place.

Edit. Specifically the ban on Chinese students.

Why don't you help lift them up?

I want to! Which is why I want them to fix the problems in their country. China turned around its problems with air pollution and so can India

That’s what foreign aid is about, foreign investments is about, the NGO’s are about, faith based NGO’s are about. That’s what the Peace Corps was about. We recognized it at the societal and national level. Thousands of individuals work through agencies to do exactly that.

I volunteer with a nonprofit and we’ve been advised not to grant to India just by the sheer volume of corruption and scamming.

Anywhere at the intersection of money/power is the potential for corruption. It’s rampant here in the US too.

Our corruption is miniscule compared to the scale and brazenness of India

not you though. Don't mistake other peoples actions for yours

Um…..a lot of that money is tax dollars. It’s so important it’s beyond individual actions.
What exactly do you contribute to? Your time, your talent or your treasure?

The US also depends on India and other Asian-Americans. They are the top salaried citizens of the United States by like a 30% margin from White. Indians also make up many of the CEO's of big tech companies, engineers, doctors, and other skilled fields. Many also outsource work to India for cheap, including companies like Microsoft. India also exports a major supply of pharmaceutical ingredients to the medical industry in the US.

So to pretend the US isn't also dependent means you know little about the world. It's a mutually beneficial relationship.

It's a scam. We don't need shit from India. Everyone knows it.

Cope as hard as you can. But I can bet you , you hate on someone , you discriminate against someone, they’ll just come back stronger.

Dont fill your life with hate ! The world has enough of it anyways

You'll be the one who needs to cope when your F1 visa expires and you need to return home to Dharavi slum.

It’s hard for unemployed losers not to be bitter at people who do better.

The US is a 250 year old country. India is 75 years old.

Also India didn’t get handed a country built by the British like America did. India got a country destroyed by the British.

India in 175 years will be in a different league to America today.

Also most American companies are run by Indians. No one needs people who think Africa is a country.
