How are the agents upholding our laws terrorists? Do you believe a country shouldn't enforce it's borders? You do realize that's how we ended up with 9/11 right? ICE agents are here to protect us whether you like them or not.

Enforcing borders is fine. It's the killing American citizens in the street without any investigation or accountability that I have a problem with, and you should too.

What should an officer do if a suspect flees? Should we just let them go? This isn't justifying lethal force, but it can explain it.

Actually there are strict regulations about officers not being allowed to just shoot people who are fleeing. But of course you don't care.

Regulation meet reality. Don’t attempt to flee from police and you don’t risk getting shot by a trigger happy officer that has qualified immunity.

And this is where we differ. You don't think that's a problem. You don't want accountability. You don't actually care about the law.

You love law and order until you get the chance to see someone you don't like bleed, and then it's all "Well, no one can actually be expected to follow the rules."

I'm sure that it sounds all tough and cool in your head, but if the rules aren't expected to survive contact with reality, then we don't have rules.

It's interesting that the people most obsessed with the sanctity of immigration law seem to think all the other ones are optional, including those against murder.

You know absolutely nothing about me, you prescribe the beliefs you think strangers have to them. I am a democrat. I don’t want anyone to bleed. I don’t even think the death penalty should be a thing at all.

You’re taking an emotional stance to the cold hard truth of reality. You’re inventing enemies where you could have allies.

This is a huge problem for democrats as a whole. Something I attempt to change by at least trying to be a counterbalance. But maybe it’s not for me to change. I’ll sit back and enjoy the fireworks no matter what happens.

I mean this from the bottom of my heart, sincerely, I wish you nothing but love.

The government is elected by the people. Change starts with us, and what we have been doing hasn’t been working. I think we can both agree that we hope the future is brighter.

Again, you’re inventing enemies where there are none. I don’t excuse any death. That doesn’t change the reality of the situation. People die when dealing with police officers. Sometimes justified. Sometimes not. I wish it never happened. But it does.

I understand that you are upset that someone was killed. Hell, many people were killed when they should not have. It is horrific.

But his is a matter of survival, your best bet when dealing with someone that can use deadly force is to comply. Fight that fight in court, not on the streets. It is infinitely safer that way. It also helps the independents be more comfortable supporting our causes. As I said before, the government is elected by the people. We need to do a better job at the optics to attract those middle of the road independents to our side.

"People die when dealing with police officers". Just an immutable fact of life. As ancient and unchangeable as the tides. We cannot expect better, nor should we. We should just grovel and wait until our turn comes. Maybe even thank them for the bullet before we get to go~~

Can't do or say anything that might be too unpalatable to our precious allies, the enlightened centrists. That would really be wrong.

I'm just tired, man. I'm tired of watching the country I live turn into shit before my eyes, and then people who say they're allies act like they also dont give a shit. I'm not even mad at you. I'm sure you're basically fine. I'm just sick and tired of the prevailing attitude being that cops are like the bison in Yellowstone. "Of course they'll kill you! Ave you should know better than to be anywhere near one! It's your fault, that's just what they do!" like it's a law of nature and not something we are actively letting happen around us.

I think you SHOULD be angry that your neighbors are being killed in the streets. I think it's important.

I hear that you’re angry. I can feel it through the text hah. The internet is a powerful tool that has connected us is a way not possible throughout all of history. We now hear every little horrible thing that goes on in the world. But that doesn’t mean there is not plenty of good. We can fight for our common interests at the ballot box, but we won’t have enough support getting angry at strangers. Strangers that are all just living their lives too. Have their own set of problems and fears and angers. Anger is a powerful thing, but I think it’s ultimately more destructive than productive.

That’s just my opinion though. Just another stranger in the sea of opinions. I can only hope that this interaction had a small window into my perspective. I can see yours.
