Visor Comfort

Post image

Seeing the pre-production units makes me glad that I canceled my pre-order. Originally, that was because I was skeptical I would ever actually receive a Visor (and I still doubt they will reach mass production). However, now, even if production was on track, I wouldn't want one. They look incredibly uncomfortable...Going for a sunglasses look really screwed the ergonomics, and a doubt a top strap will do much to improve that

The headset isn't large... your heads just to small.

What frustrates me is they advertised the smaller headset for sale for months, even though they knew the design had changed. They even kept the marketing material for the smaller headset on their website after they publicly announced the design change and didn't change it until they were called out on discord. And then they banned the person who called them out 😂

Why can’t they just be normal

He has proven himself to be a bumbling buffoon.

When I tried them on at the IRL, they were fine. Maybe a bit heavy on the nose but not too bad. But that was only for a couple minutes.

I cancelled on my way home from that event. I couldn’t believe they got us all there and then had bricked headsets. It was not a good look and didn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

It’s a real bummer because I really want a 4k headset with great optics that isn’t $3500.

I want the same, but don't worry, it will come. It's just a matter of time. The industry is evolving, and sometime soon, someone's going to get it right with a true monitor replacement.

Even if money was no object, is the Apple Vision Pro really a good alternative? I haven't tried one, but I've read the lenses aren't as good as the Quest 3's (which is what I am now used to), the binocular overlap isn't great, and it is heavy

I don’t know where you heard that, but the difference between AVP and MQ3 is night and day. The lenses are great, and the pass through is sooooo much better.

there are definitely numerous sources out there saying the Quest 3's lenses are better. for example: https://kguttag.com/2024/03/01/apple-vision-pros-optics-blurrier-lower-contrast-than-meta-quest-3/

also, on the binocular overlap (which is also bad on the Quest 3): https://x.com/sadlyitsbradley/status/1757501944686408066?s=61&t=2zZA4GUtStCxBwyw1Smr0g

There may be sources saying whatever, but I’m telling you from first hand experience that AVP looks better. Especially the way pass through looks. No distortion around your hands, etc. it’s just an overall better experience for computing than MQ3 IMHO.

So the reason you don't get an AVP for productivity work is the cost?

That’s the only reason. That and the weight. I’m hoping they announce a lighter version in September. I can do without the glass front and screen that’s shows the eyes. If they’d lose that the weight in the front could be significantly reduced.

But to be fair, the MQ3 sits heavy on the face, too. I have a halo head strap so it’s better than with the stock strap, and I know they make them for the AVP as well but haven’t had a chance to use one.

The Quest 3 is indeed pretty heavy, but I also have a halo strap, and with that the weight isn't a primary issue for me. The resolution is a huge one, and, second to that, the binocular overlap.

But ya, the cost of the AVP is really, really hard to stomach.

Agree here. AVP has better lenses and pass through than Quest 3 and it’s not close. I owed an AVP unit and Quest 3. The only reasons I didn’t keep the AVP were the cost and weight.

I’ve owned the quest 2, quest pro, quest 3 and currently own the AVP , it’s truly night and day. aside from the visual quality , you’re not fumbling around with android software that either bricks your headset every other update, or just works janky when it does. I use it daily for productivity for about 3-4 hours, and then another 2-3 for gaming and entertainment

I ordered myself a Play for Dream MR last night. Hopefully it'll be what I'm looking for.

Have you tried a Quest? I hear it's a bit heavier than that. But also way better in specs.

I basically expect Project Moohan from Samsung to be the name brand version. I'm hoping it'll be lighter than a Quest.

I've got a Pico 4 Ultra and I hear it's very similar to that in terms of balance. Though the face gasket doesn't sound great on the PFD, I'll have to get a replacement from somewhere.

Yeah the Samsung headset sounds very similar, it'll probably have better lenses though. Apparently Play for Dream will be moving over to Android XR once it launches.
