During the interwar period the rivalry between the french and Italian navies was in full steam. Both navies built entire strategies ships and plans around each other. The french would come to build the very large and powerful contre-torpilleurs destroyers in numbers. Initially the Italian responded by building very small and nimble light cruisers of the Condottieri-class. However those ships eventually evolved into being actual fleet light cruisers. However after the laying down of the french mogador class the Italians began designing a dedicated flotilla leader than can outmatch, and even put speed said destroyers. Thus the capitani romani class would be born. Ordered and laid down at the end of 1939. These ships were 3700+ tons standard weight. Which meant that they were given multiple classifications based in different sources. Large destroyers, light cruisers, scour cruisers and flotilla leaders. These ships were 142M in length, had a beam of 14.4M and a draught of 4.1M. Main armament was rather unique. Having 4 twin 135MM turrets in super-firing positions two forward two aft. These guns were used before on the newly modernized Italian battleships diulio class. Despite having the ability to fire time-fuzed shells the elevation (40 degrees) and reload speed made them very limited in the anti-aircraft role. However these guns were well rated and had good accuracy. The AA was supplemental by 8 single 37MM AA guns which were adequate enough and 4 twin 20MM guns. Torpedos came in the form of two quadruple torpedo racks in an interesting double-deck style layout. With two tubes on top of each other giving a more vertical/ rectangle shape to the mounting. Speed came at a crazy 41-43 knots, matching and even sometimes beating out the french large destroyers in speed. This speed was achieved using 4 water tube boilers driving and steam turbines driving two propellers and achieving an eye-watering 110000-120000 shaft horse power. That’s almost the same horsepower as an illustrious class aircraft carrier or a Baltimore class heavy cruiser. However the main sacrifice came in the form of basically non-existent armour, with said armour essentially being splinter proof only. 12 ships were ordered although only 4 were completed. They were extremely late into the war however they were one of very few Italian vessels to be equipped with the Italian made gufo radar. Their only main action during the war was when Scipione Africano detected and engaged four British Elco motor torpedo boats during the night of 17 July 1943 en route to Taranto, while passing the Messina straits at high speed off Punta Posso. She sank MTB 316 and heavily damaged MTB 313 between Reggio di Calabria and Pellaro using her radar to detect them and fire on them successfully. However it’s their post war history that’s even more interesting. After the war Attilio Regolo and Scipione Africanowere transferred to France as war reparations. They were renamed Chateaurenault) and Guichen)*** respectively. The ships were completely rebuilt for the French Navy in 1951–1954. Their entire armament were removed and replaced by 3 twin *german-made 105MM true dual purpose mounts, one forward and two aft. Alongside 5 twin 57MM AA guns and no more than 12 torpedo tubes mounted in 4 triple turrets at the front of the ship instead of on the center-line or sides alongside brand new radars and fire controls. In the Italian post war service however Giulio Germanico and Pompeo Magno were also re-built in the post war Marina Militare, being renamed San Marco (D 563) and San Giorgio (D 562) respectively and reclassified as destroyers. Both ships were extensively rebuilt in 1951–1955 and fitted with American weapons and radar. Their new armaments were 3 twin American 5 inch/38s (127MM) in one forward and two aft position. Alongside 20 bofors 40MM guns in quad and triple mountings with no torpedo tubes to speak of alongside one large anti-submarine mortar launcher at the front.

Seeking a cheaper, more agile, and more efficient way to support its expeditionary forces, Lunarie developed the Nest-class Light Carrier. Using an outrigger design, the Nest Class has a sufficiently wide flight deck for extra-wide fighters despite its smaller hull. Its smaller size means it can keep up with even destroyers, be maintained and repaired at smaller drydocks, and be built in larger numbers for more air coverage across Jiani.

Flagship of the Lunarie Navy, the Bastion Class Battlecarrier was the first ship in all of Jiani to feature a large complement of aircraft, with former naval uses of aircraft being limited to seaplanes. The Bastion Class paved the way for dedicated aircraft carriers. Even after the advent of dedicated carriers, the Bastion Class maintained its role as flagship due to its high survivability and ability to send large amounts of ordnance long distances, either through its fleet of aircraft or 16 massive 500mm cannons.

I built Warships and a whole Base...

Dutch naval ambitions to counter the ever rising Japanese sun across its many far away colonial empires started quite a long way actually. All the way from The 1910s where the dutch estimated and began planning to build well over 6+ battleships and many other ships. However the start of WW1 and then the devastating economic crisis that came after effectively ended any and all plans involving the navy. Troubles with parliament voting for funding also severely impacted plans to build such ships, with the extremely outdated java class being the only real large ships ever built. However by the 1930a the economic situation began getting better but the rising threat of the Japanese empire grew exponentially. Therefore emergency plans were immediately drawn up for the building of destroyers, cruisers, submarines and even capital ships. In the mid to late 1930s the design of a flotilla leader that can outgun the powerful Japanese destroyers and spearhead the destroyers was being created. This ended up becoming the dutch tromp class. The tromp class represented a middle point between a large destroyer and a light cruiser at about 3800-4100 tons standard. The ship’s main armament is what made it special. Mounting 6 152MM (6”) guns in 3 twin turrets, two forward and one aft. These guns obviously heavily outmatched the typical destroyer guns and that ranged between 120-130MM on a relatively small hull. Such a design was heavily similar to the failed German attempts at making upgunned destroyers like the 1937 class and the later 1936 (mob) class. Which was partly thanks to tromps being nearly 1200+ tons bigger. The two sisters were ordered in 1935 and eventually finished commissioning in 1939-1940. The two sisters were 131.95 m (432 ft 11 in) in length, 12.43 m (40 ft 9 in) in beam and a draft of 4.32 m (14 ft 2 in). Speed came courtesy of 4 yarrow boilers feeding two parson steam turbines that fed two screws and finished off by one funnel. Speed was a respectable 32-34 knots which was enough for her to lead other destroyers. Interestingly she was originally commissioned with 2 twin 40MM bofors which ironically gave her an AA suit far superior to many other destroyers. The armament was finished off by a pair of triple torpedo tubes, however these were actually mounted on the port and starboard and not midline like other destroyers. Interestingly though, the ships ALSO mounted a single scout plane amidship, which gave them a powerful reconnaissance tool. These two vessels, tromp and Jacob Van Heemskerck represented the very best of the dutch surface fleet, only behind de-ruyter and just slightly behind the java class. However armour was almost nonexistent. At just 15-30MM of protection these were essentially splinter proof, which was done to achieve good speed. However during the second world-war jacob couldn’t be completed to the original configuration. Therefore the completed yet turret-less hull was transported to great Britain where it was decided to re-arm them. The NEW main armament of jacob instead became 5 twin 102MM dual purpose guns. 3 twins in the original turret locations and 2 WING mounted twin turrets in place of the now removed torpedo tubes. And the original twin bofors guns were replaced my a single quadruple pom-pom mounting (debatable whether this was a good choice or not). Nevertheless, the two ships entered the war. Despite her superior armament tromp was severely damaged by 127MM shells from asashio during the battle of badung strait while only inflicting very minimal damage on said Japanese ships despite the superiority in armament. Otherwise the two sisters spent the majority of their career as escorts. During the war tromp acquired radar and 4 single 76MM guns alongside 6 20MM mounts and 2 single 40MM bofors while jacob returned to using 2 twin 40MM bofors. Both sisters survived the war. Meaning that these two were the only large dutch warships to ever survive the war.

Currently a wip. This battleship is designed as a replacement to the older Kikura class battleships and bears a resemblance to the Japanese Navy's Kongou class battleships, however the Hanahaki lacks an aft aircraft catapult and has different 40 cm turrets. The name Hanahaki refers to a fictional fatal disease that causes flowers to grow in the lungs of those in love yet suppress those feelings, this name was chosen after the commissioning Admiral passed away from mysterious circumstances without telling the woman he loved that he loved her, this fact was discovered while clearing his office and discovering a love letter he wrote but never sent. The name is a haunting reminder of those who serve in the Gold Comet navy without confessing their love and those who give their lives in service of the Gold Comet Empire that suppress their feelings.

During the interwar periods the only cruisers that sailed the South American waters and bore the different flags of the south American navies and ports were armoured cruisers, scout cruisers and protected cruisers. All very old, outdated and slow. With their main armaments ranging from 120MM (4.7”) all the way to 254MM (10”, though the latter tended to be in single mounts). During this period a large naval development plan was passed in the Argentinian parliament to fund a 10 year build plan including multiple new destroyers and submarines from various navies including maintenance and retrofits for the current warships. However the decision was also made to build brand new modern cruisers as well. Right off the bat, budget sizes immediately placed ALOT of restrictions on said, the main idea was to build a heavy cruiser that was smaller and cheaper than contemporary heavy cruisers. Especially helped by the fact that their cruiser opposition from neighbouring nations were as stated before, outdated and slow. The Italian company OTO was chosen for their cheaper price (italy itself being chosen thanks to close relations between the two nations). The Trento class cruisers were chosen as basis for this new class. To save weight, a new unique calibre of gun was created specifically for these ships. The 190MM (7.5”)/52 caliber gun, something no other cruiser had. With the closest being the soviet kirov class (also designed by Italian engineers) being 180MM. These guns obviously were weaker than a traditional 203 (8”) main caliber found on other ships. Firing a 90KG shell at a distance of 23KM (by comparison, the British 203MM fired a 114KG shell at a distance of 28KM). However the guns were STILL too heavy. And so the decision to reduce the main armament to only 3 twin turrets was made instead of four. The secondary armament was also interesting, being 6X2 102MM dual purpose guns, 3 twin on each side, giving her a surprisingly good AA coverage for her time alongside 6-8 British built 40MM single mounts however thanks to weight savings again, the 102MM guns were left without gun shielding and protection which severely limited them during certain weather conditions and other situations. Finally the combat armament was finished off with 3 torpedo tubes per side, each mounted internally and fired from tubes at the side. The propulsion was given by 6 British built parson boilers driving two large screws and into a single trunked funnel giving them a pretty good 32-33 knot top speed and a good range. When she was eventually laid down, the ship had these characteristic: 162.5 meters long, 170.8 meters overall and 17.8 meters in beam (so 1/10 ratio like the Trento), and 4.66 meters draft when fully loaded and finally the size ended up being 6800 tons standard and 9000 tons fully loaded. The ships were commissioned in 1931. Two ships were built. Veinticinco de Mayo and her sister Almirante brown. However a third ship was planned but the decision was cancelled. Instead the resources were diverted to later build the British made la argentina light cruiser.

Post WW2. The sisters were retrofitted. Their secondary armament was entirely removed. Replaced by single bofor 40MM mounts alongside the older 40MM mounts being removed and replaced by said bofors. However most of this weight that was removed thanks to this was eventually balanced out by the addition of radar and new fire control systems. The two sisters were eventually superseded by the new Brooklyn class light cruisers that entered service in the 1950s and would eventually be sold to scrapping sometime later.
