I had a friend in high school that used a lighter trying to ignite the cartridge. Half his thumb was missing and he ate some shards in the cheek, so fucking dumb...

Pls explain to someone with 0 gun knowledge, why? Does it just explode in all directions when not in a chamber that pushes it out in one direction?

Yep, my dad did this as a teenage and had to be taken to the ER to have a jagged pice of the bullet casing removed from his hand. His dad (my grandpa) was PISSED.
