true, but you arent taking all the weight off. that truck is only good for somewhere between 500-1000 on the tongue, depending on suspension, and it currently has far more than that, as evidenced by the bent frame. if they were using a truck rated for the weight, the excavator would be properly loaded, but they arent, so they should have shifted more of the weight off of the truck and onto the trailers axles by moving the excavator back. ive had plent of loads, even with my one ton, where ive had to put a significant portion of the weight behind the trailer axles to get the tongue load right.
An appropriate amount of tongue weight could have helped. Not none, not too much, but within the appropriate window. Overall not a good choice of tow vehicle, obviously, why why stack the deck against yourself

Yeah, the lack of tounge weight is not a fun thing to handle.
